*Riiiing*
We then heard the bell ring and everyone quickly sat down. And barely arriving in time for class were Potter and Weasley, who hurriedly burst through the door.
"Phew! We made it" Potter said relieved as they stopped inside the classroom.
"Yes. I don't even want to imagine what Professor McGonagall would do to us if we were late," Weasley said after not seeing any sign of Professor McGonagall in the room.
"They won't have to wait long," I said in a whisper to Terry.
"Like this?" he asked back in a whisper.
"The cat on the table is Professor McGonagall," I told him, which earned me a skeptical look from Terry. But that look soon turned to amazement, something that was reflected on the faces of everyone in the room, as the cat jumped off the table and transformed into Professor McGonagall.
"Can I know why the sirs are late?" Professor McGonagall asked Potter and Weasley with her stern look.
"It's just…well…we got lost," Weasley admitted, a little embarrassed.
"Maybe I should turn one of you into a pocket watch and the other into a map so you can make it in time" Professor McGonagall told them, looking grimly over the top of her glasses, "Now find your places" she finished dismissing them with a wave of the hand. After that she turned to me.
"How did you know I was the cat?" Professor McGonagall asked me.
"Simple... First the cat was very well behaved and was paying a lot of attention in the room and the students" I started to answer her, "Also, transfiguration is a branch of magic where you can transform one thing into another , from objects, and animals, to people. And a well-known spell of transfiguration is the Animagus, which is the ability to transform into an animal, in your case, a cat. And you, who are a master of transfiguration, would have tried to become one. And looking closely at the cat, I noticed that he had eyeglass marks around his eyes, much like the glasses you wear. Putting it all together, I ended up determining that you were the cat," I said, ending my analysis-answer, which apparently shocked both Professor McGonagall and the other students, since they were staring at me openmouthed.
"Cough!" Professor McGonagall coughed to get rid of the embarrassment, "Well that was a spectacular analysis, Mr. Night. 5 points to Ravenclaw!" she said looking at me satisfied and amazed.
She then clapped her hands to get the attention of the rest of the class, and began her introductory speech.
"Transfiguration is one of the most complex and dangerous spells you will learn at Hogwarts. Whoever messes up in my class will leave and never come back. Be warned" Professor McGonagall said looking at everyone grimly.
She then proceeded to teach us the alphabet of transfiguration and the formula of transfiguration, which is that the intended transformation is directly influenced by body weight(a), meanness(v), wand power(w), concentration(c) and a small unknown variable(z).
Right after the explanation, she gave each of us a match, and asked us to transfigure it into a needle.
And as she handed the match to me, Professor McGonagall gave me a little look, which I understood as 'I hope you'll do your best'.
I then looked at the match on my desk and with my wand in hand, pointed at it, concentrated and imagined the process of transforming the match into the needle, and started transfiguring it.
And in front of me, I saw the match thin, change from wood to silver, and at the end of the transformation, there was a perfect needle in place.
But I still wasn't satisfied, so I started detailing my needle. I've added some blue and bronze details at the base with a carving of a raven, to represent Ravenclaw. And at the end result of the transfiguration, I gave myself a nod, proud of myself.
"Are you now a Transfiguration prodigy too?" Terry whispered to me, looking at my needle in wonder.
"It wasn't that hard..." I told him, "It's the same principle I used to cast the {Lumos} spell. You have to concentrate and imagine, only this time you have to imagine the transfiguration process from a match to a needle," I explained to Terry, who was paying full attention to my words.
Terry then gave me a nod, turned to his match in concentration, and began trying to transfigure him.
And I, with nothing to do, decided to train my transfiguration speed. So I started transfiguring the needle back into a match, and I repeated the process.
After a few minutes of practicing the speed of my transfiguration, I decided to look around to see how the other students were doing. Only to find Professor McGonagall looking alternately between my needle and me, and through empathy I felt her surprise and happiness.
"Congratulations, Mr. Night! A flawless transfiguration!" Professor McGonagall said impressed, "Take 10 points for Ravenclaw!"
"Thanks," I told her with a smile, to which she nodded. And again the jealous feelings surfaced, mostly from Ravenclaws, as I could only sense two people feeling jealous of Gryffindor, and I didn't even have to look to know it was Weasley and Granger.
"Awn man, again?" Anthony from behind me said as he banged his head on the table, "Is there any subject you're not good at?"
"I think this subject hasn't been created yet," I said with a dismissive shrug.
"Convinced" Anthony said rolling his eyes, "So…can you help me?" he asked as he stared at me with puppy dog eyes, which on his face was…a little scary.
"Okay, I'll help you. Just stop looking at me with those eyes," I told him. And then I went on to give the same explanation I gave Terry to him.
I could see some of my Ravenclaw colleagues looking at us, but none of them came to ask for our help.
'They must still be upset that I didn't help them in Charms class' I thought with a shrug.
After that the class went on normally. Terry managed to transfigure the match into a needle with some parts still being wooden, and Anthony managed to get a wooden needle. And at the end of class, only me, Terry, Anthony and Granger managed to transfigure the match into a needle. And I got 5 more points for helping Anthony and Terry, much to the annoyance of some.
As we started to leave the classroom, I turned to Professor McGonagall and smiling, I nodded goodbye to her, which she returned with another nod and gave me a small, satisfied smile.
So I started walking towards Terry and Anthony, who were waiting for me at the door.
End.
