Rise of the Reaper

The world changed on a fateful night in the winter of 2010 The night was young, with only the light hue of the moon illuminating the stary sky. "On this fateful night, a large meteor shower is scheduled to appear and dazzle the sky with its majestic sights" A news station tuning into the event reported. Expecting to see the vibrant blue and red-tinged streak that is associated with a meteor, a small voice pierced the entire night. "Mommy, why is the sky yellow?" A young boy expectedly looked toward his mother. Instead of the vibrant blue and red-streaked trail following a meteor, a dull, lackluster yellow could be seen tailing the meteors falling down to Earth

"That guy was a noble?!" Hunter practically screamed out.

"Yes, the man was noble baron Michael Nash, he was visiting the town to check in on the financial stability to report back to the kingdom", the captain of the guard responded.

'I never would have thought he was of nobility, it looks like it wasn't a random murder' Hunter thought to himself.

Putting down his clipboard and leaning against the wall, the city guard addressed Hunter.

"Your trial will be tomorrow morning, I suggest that you ready yourself for the shitshow that's about to happen"

"You don't understand, I wasn't the one who killed him, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got caught up in all of this" Hunter pleaded to the captain.

The captain sighed, "look kid, I've heard that a hundred times, and I'm sure ill hear it a hundred more, truth be told, I don't see how you were capable of killing a powerful man like the Baron but we can't rule out anything just yet"

"Fine, but first can I make a call?" Hunter said.

The captain left the room and returned with a smartphone, giving the device to Hunter before leaning back against the wall.

"Could I get some privacy? It's an important call" Hunter said to the captain.

The captain scoffed at Hunter before quietly leaving the room.

'I guess I'm going to have to call in a favor' Hunter thought to himself as he started punching numbers into the phone.

*Ring*

*Ring*

On the second ring, a familiar voice responded.

"Hello, this is Ethan Parker, who is this?"

"When blade meets blade and flame meets flame, a victor arises," Hunter said coldly into the phone.

"This is prince Ethan Enzo of the Alster Kingdom, who am I speaking to", the tone of Ethan's voice changed from innocent to threatening.

"It's Hunter, I need your help. Ethan Enzo would help me more than Ethan Parker right now, I'm sorry"

"What happened so bad that you need my help?" Ethan asked, knowing that the situation must be bad for Hunter to address him as the prince rather than his best friend.

"I'm being accused of killing a noble, I saw the men who did it, I can promise you that I'm innocent" Hunter talked into the phone.

"I believe you, I'll see what I can do," Ethan said, hanging up the phone.

Soon after the phone call ended, the captain of the guard walked back into the room. Grabbing the phone from Hunter, the captain then returned to the wall.

Footsteps sounded down the hallway outside of the cell, reverberating off of the stone walls.

"It's been a pleasure but I'm afraid I have to go" Hunter smiled in the captain's direction.

Looking at Hunter in confusion, the captain was about to ask Hunter what he was talking about but then the footsteps stopped and a man dressed in a suit entered the room.

Handing the captain a sheet of paper, the nicely dressed man left as soon as he handed over the paper.

Looking down at the paper, the captain's face stiffened as his gaze worked from the top to the bottom of the sheet.

Walking over to Hunter, the captain started to untie him as he started to talk.

"By royal decree, Hunter Rowan is to be released and all charges dropped" the captain muttered, still in shock, wondering just who the boy had called.

"You're free to go," The captain said, untying the last of the rope.

"Sorry for this misunderstanding, I wish you the best of luck," Hunter said with a grin on his face.

Walking down the dirt road towards the academy, Hunter enjoyed the fresh night air.

'I really lucked out rooming with the prince of the kingdom' Hunter thought to himself.

'I don't like using friends for personal gain but god damn, did I luck out' Hunter thought while taking a leisurely stroll as if he wasn't just falsely arrested for murder.

Getting back to his dorm room, Hunter readied himself for the conversation he would have with Ethan. Taking a deep breath, Hunter entered the room.

"We need to talk," Ethan said while sitting on the couch, his hands pressed firmly together.
