Rise of the Reaper

The world changed on a fateful night in the winter of 2010 The night was young, with only the light hue of the moon illuminating the stary sky. "On this fateful night, a large meteor shower is scheduled to appear and dazzle the sky with its majestic sights" A news station tuning into the event reported. Expecting to see the vibrant blue and red-tinged streak that is associated with a meteor, a small voice pierced the entire night. "Mommy, why is the sky yellow?" A young boy expectedly looked toward his mother. Instead of the vibrant blue and red-streaked trail following a meteor, a dull, lackluster yellow could be seen tailing the meteors falling down to Earth

"What exactly happened for you to be accused of killing a noble?" Ethan said with a frown on his face.

Sitting down next to Ethan, Hunter recounted some of the events that the night held.

After he finished, the boys sat in silence as Ethan thought of how he would respond.

"I think I understand what happened now," Ethan said as he broke the silence. "Most likely an assassin group was given the task to kill the baron, but the question is, why?"

Thinking back to the conversation he had with the captain of the city guard, Hunter suddenly had an idea.

"When I was talking with the guard's captain he said that the baron was there to investigate the financial stability of the city, maybe that had something to do with his death," Hunter said to Ethan.

"That would mean the person who ordered the assassination was involved with corruption in the government of the city!" Ethan came to the same conclusion that Hunter had.

"That's what I think, it makes the most sense given the information that we have right now"

Ethan then got up from the couch, walked over to the fridge, and opened it, grabbing a carton of orange juice.

"Want some?" Ethan said.

"What? Aren't we going to do anything!" Hunter yelled at Ethan's seemingly nonchalant attitude.

"Look Hunter, this is big but it's outside of our power to do anything. The most I can do is report it to the capital but even then we don't have any proof" Ethan said while pouring two glasses of juice.

Ethan handed Hunter the drink, to which he quickly drank in a few gulps.

"Let's get some rest and think about what we should do in the morning, I'm beat," Ethan said after he finished his drink.

"Your right", Hunter sighed. "I got ahead of myself I'm sorry."

Turning off the lights, both Hunter and Ethan headed off to bed.

Hunter woke up early in the morning, wanting to get his daily quest out of the way he headed off to the gym.

The early morning exercise cleared his head of the previous night's events.

Saving his run for last, Hunter got onto the treadmill. He didn't get out of breath like usual, instead, he felt more energetic than he ever had before.

'I guess those stat points are having more of an influence on me than I had thought'

Hopping off the treadmill, Hunter went to grab his towel to wipe off the sweat he accumulated. To his disdain, his towel was nowhere in sight.

"Looking for this?" A quiet voice sounded behind Hunter.

"Ah!" Hunter yelled out in surprise.

Hunter jumped at the sudden voice behind him, even though it was a quiet voice, the voice broke the silence of the gym.

Turning around, Hunter saw a small boy standing with his towel in the boy's hand.

"Sorry about that, you surprised me for a second there," Hunter said, red in the face from embarrassment.

"Why do you have my towel?" Hunter quickly reigned in his surprise and questioned the boy.

"Sorry, I just needed a way to get your attention," the boy said in a soft-spoken voice.

Knowing to not underestimate anyone based on appearance, Hunter took a defensive stance, about to summon his sythe.

"No! Wait! I just wanted to talk to you, I don't want to fight!" The boy said as his face paled slightly.

Slightly lowering his defensives, Hunter responded to the boy.

"Well, what do you want to talk about?"

"I just wanted to say I saw your fight with Bryce and I think you're really cool" The boy spurted out quickly, stumbling over his own words.

"Oh, thank you?" Hunter replied, confused at how the conversation was going.

"Truth is, I was being bullied by Bryce and his friends, so when I saw you stand up to him, you gave me hope!" The young boy said, slightly red in the face.

Taking a better look at the boy, Hunter saw that he had short, jet-black hair with an old pair of glasses hanging on the crook of his nose. The boy's stature was chubby and short, giving him a pumpkin shape.

"I'm sorry to hear that, I'm glad that you got hope seeing me fight Bryce," Hunter said with a slight smile, knowing that if the boy saw the fight, he also saw Ethan save Hunter's ass.

"Well, I'll be off then," Hunter said as he grabbed his towel from the outstretched hand of the boy.

"Wait! can you please train me so I can stand up for myself" The boy shouted before Hunter could leave the room.
