CHAPTER: UNCOMMON LUCK

CHAPTER 2: UNUSUAL LUCK

Having my fate decided in a game of luck was ridiculous, but the discomfort caused by the insecurity that surrounded the reality around me was worse.

With limited mobility and repressed emotions, I was powerless to change what was happening. I had no choice but to move forward, temporarily accepting this absurd reality.

Powerlessness is a feeling I've always hated. However, I have learned that it is an inevitable part of life, just like death. And like anyone else, I have also had to face several failures throughout my life.

At times I faced financial difficulties so severe that I was forced to make friends with hunger. In romantic relationships I also had some failures, sometimes I didn't even notice when they started to fall apart.

I also lost countless loved ones over the years until I was the only survivor. And, of course, I suffered from the dreaded sexual impotence, having to resort to medication shook me.

Ultimately, I witnessed my own body degrade over the years. Aging brought with it a series of problems that gradually undermined my health, weakening me every day.

In the face of all this, I experienced the agony of helplessness, but I never allowed it to turn me into a "loser".

Despite some notable failures in my life, I learned valuable lessons from each of them. They made me resilient, taught me to value small achievements and to find the strength to move forward even in the face of adversity.

I believe that success does not depend on moments of victory or defeat, but on the ability to become stronger. Winning while weakening is foolish, as these are the moments that opportunists take advantage of.

As time went by, I had to give up many things that gave me pleasure and learn to find joy in other activities. Fortunately, I had enough financial resources to live however I wanted. I took advantage of the opportunity to learn new languages and visit different places, in search of new experiences.

Later, entertainment became one of my greatest sources of pleasure, I immersed myself in games, lost myself in the pages of books and was enchanted by films and series that brought new colors to my previously gray life. It didn't matter if it was live-action or animation, nor if it was Eastern or Western.

While I was deep in my own thoughts, I heard the sound of a drawer being opened and saw the Goddess take out a golden coin from the drawer.

She announced excitedly, "Now that I've finished the introduction, let's move on. You've probably realized that you can talk, but don't make me take away this freedom I gave you by asking questions or making comments. Just answer my questions."

"The game will be a version of 'Coin Toss' using this coin." She smilingly explained: "You must decide which side of the coin answers each of my five questions. With this information, you should already have an idea of how The game works. Any questions?"

For a moment I wanted to protest, because the idea that my future depended on a coin was humiliating. But I knew I couldn't do anything.

"No," I finally managed to say. "I have no doubts."

The Goddess smiled again. "Very well, let's begin," she said. "The first question is: when you are reborn, will you have your memories, yes or no?"

The question hit me like a punch in the stomach, I felt a wave of shock run through my body. Losing my memories was no different than dying.

For a moment I felt anxious. I knew that regardless of my choice, the question and luck would determine my fate. I was just a piece, not a player.

"What is your choice?" she asked.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "I choose "Heads" to be yes, so I don't need to say what "Tails" means, right?" I said with a sarcastic tone, clenching my teeth. Then I saw the Goddess agreeing as she threw the coin in the air and caught it.

When the coin was tossed, time seemed to slow down. That moment seemed like an eternity. My mind was racing a mile a minute and my heart was pounding in my chest. Even under the effect of the spells, he could barely contain the agitation he felt. Memories and thoughts about the past and future invaded my mind.

Soon resignation came over me, when the coin fell into her hand, all that was left was an indifference to the future that weighed on my shoulders. It was as if I had accepted my death sentence.

Exposing the result to the Goddess, she said: "Heads". I sighed like a balloon that had lost its air. All my mental energy seemed to have escaped along with the air from my lungs. My hands were sweating and a shiver ran down my spine.

But I noticed a sudden but short change in the Goddess's facial expression. For a brief moment, I saw fear in her eyes as she surveyed the room, until her smile faded, giving way to an intriguing seriousness. Something was bothering her and I wondered what it could be.

But now, what really matters is that at least theoretically, I could envision a new dawn, even though the indignation at being treated as a mere toy persisted.

Noticing my observation, she quickly composed herself and in a hurry, asked me the second question: "Will you be reborn in a parallel world or in another multiverse?"

I had some understanding of what perhaps a parallel universe was, but I was confused by what the term "another multiverse" meant. I asked her to explain, but she replied rudely, that she would only explain if my rebirth took place in another multiverse.

"Come on, choose," she finished by saying.

I then decided that "Tails" would represent the multiverse, while "Heads" would be the parallel world. She tossed the coin, and came up with "Heads" again.

Soon after, without wasting time, the Goddess asked the third question: "Will the parallel world have a story very similar to or different from your world?"

I noticed that the joy and smile she had at the beginning of the game did not return and that now there was a tense expression on her face. Her rush to finish the game began to intrigue me. I imagined that perhaps she was in a hurry due to some urgency, perhaps even due to a physiological need.

Anyway, the questions no longer seemed to put my existence at risk, so I was able to relax a little. I comfortably responded that "Tails" would represent a very similar story, while "Heads" would represent a very different story. She flipped the coin, and once again the result was "Tails."

At this point, I started to become intrigued by my luck. It seemed like the coin always landed on the option I preferred. I had a feeling something was happening. I decided that I would observe this coincidence in the next questions.

Interrupting my thoughts, she asked the fourth question, which was whether I would be reborn with any special abilities. This time I decided that "Heads" would mean "yes" and "Tails" would mean "no". The coin was tossed once again and, to my surprise and happiness, "Heads" came out.

I was so happy, because the results were what I wanted, and I concluded that something abnormal was indeed happening. Seeing the goddess getting more and more frustrated was very satisfying.

She, sensing my feelings, said arrogantly, "You're having great luck, mortal. In fact, it has been thousands of years since I saw such a lucky mortal. But don't get too happy yet, it looks like we still have another game."

I got confused. The only way we could have another game was if it came on the next question, but how would she know the result? I even thought that she was manipulating the currency, but I discarded this hypothesis, as there was nothing to indicate this to me.

Furthermore, I instinctively felt that she didn't know the future. But I still didn't know if this was due to inability or lack of will.

Finally, the fifth question came, which was whether I would participate in another game, where I would make some settings, or whether the settings would be random.

Although I didn't know how the game would go, I didn't like the idea of randomness, even though luck was on my side. I thought it would be better to depend on my own ability.

I then decided that "Heads" would be random, while "Tails" would represent the 'Definition' game. The last coin flipped resulted in "Tails".

With a sigh, I reviewed the results and the conclusion was that I would be reborn with my memories, in a parallel world historically similar to my previous world, with a special ability, and would participate in another game.
