Chapter 7: Skill or Quirk?!

*MC POV*

After lunch and making a promise with my mom to not speak about what happened, I went to my shared room and opened my system. I saw a difference immediately.

Character: Fischl [3]

Skill: Electromaster [1]

Vision: None

'Yahoooo! I unlocked my skill! And it's already leveled up to 1! But how and when did I unlock it?'

I eagerly looked at the skill description.

Electromaster [1/30]: Can generate, shape, manipulate, and convert electricity. Can apply electricity to yourself or anything within a specified range.

'As expected of Fischl. Her skill or quirk is just like her character in Genshin Impact. Or is it because both my parents have electric-based quirks? Oh well. Doesn't really matter. What matters is that I have it~ Bwahahaha!'

'I guess it is level 1 because I was using it on the swatter, Skana, earlier. That explains why it didn't work for spiky hair. But that also means that I unlocked the skill before even going to the park…'

I thought about the events prior to then. I definitely did not have this when I last checked my status. Before going to the park I ate breakfast. Before that, I saw the aftermath of my parents "playtime" last night. No way that was the trigger right?

'Hmmm. No matter how I think about it, the most likely time it could have unlocked is when I decided to change my attitude or mindset. By detaching myself from my previous life and setting a goal for myself in this one, I must have unlocked the skill. If that isn't the reason, then the only other possibility is that the skill unlocks after a specific amount of time, which is probably four years since quirks in this world manifest in children around 4 years old… I don't want to wait four years to unlock Xingqui's skill when I get him so hopefully it's the first guess.'

I opened the Modify menu for Electromaster and was surprised to find so few options. There are only four mods available which were Power (0/10), Range (0/10), Efficiency (0/10), and Special (10). I was slightly disappointed yet relieved at the same time. Less choices means less hassle when choosing what to spend points on. But before modifying my skill, I decided to get some base data first.

'I'm so glad that my dad is a manager of an engineering department at a big company.'

Our garage is stock full of various tools and instruments that can help me measure my skill's capabilities thanks to my Dad's work. He has been spending time with Denki to assess his quirk. Mom went out to continue her patrol and Honoka-nee is watching All Might videos again.

So without anyone noticing, I was freely able to do some testing. It took a while to get used to using my skill, but I got it eventually. I sensed some sort of 'feeling' flowing in my body. I guessed that it was the energy indicated by my Energy stat on my system. If I did not have the experience of my past life, I would not have noticed this energy that did not exist before. By controlling this energy and guiding it to my hands, I was able to activate my skill and generate electricity.

At skill level 1 with no mods, I can output 1000 volts of electricity at 1 energy per second. Increasing the energy cost raised the output. By using all 100 of my energy in a second, I was able to output a maximum of 100,000 volts. Fortunately, I don't short-circuit my brain when I use up all my energy. Unfortunately, I do get a massive migraine. I had to wait in pain for my energy to regen. This made me consider putting some points in energy increasing mods for Fischl.

I also found that I can sense and control electricity within a radius of 1 meter around me. Outside of that, my control and power decrease considerably.

After gathering the data of Electromaster, it was time to apply the single point I have on a mod. I put it on Power first and it increased my output by around 30 percent.

'At max Power 10/10, will it increase my output by 300 percent?' I wondered.

Anyways, since I was done testing the Power mod, next came the Range mod. Since the change will only apply tomorrow, I might as well fix the settings now. But to my surprise, my skill had leveled up to level 2! I didn't even kill anything with it yet!

This made me conclude that killing stuff levels up characters, while to level up skills I only need to use and practice with them. For Visions, well, I still haven't unlocked it and don't know how.

With the level up and another point available, another round of testing began. Thankfully, no one came into the garage and I was able to finish doing what I needed to do there without getting caught.

In summary, every level up increases my maximum base output by 1000 volts at 1 energy per second. It also increases my maximum control range by 1 meter. Power and Range mods increase the maximum even further by 30 percent for each point I have on the mod. I'm guessing that the Efficiency mod reduces the energy cost but I will have to wait for tomorrow to confirm that. As for the Special mod, I need to get Electromaster to level 10 before I can even use it.

With all my testing and speculations done, I only had two things left to do. First, is to come to a decision whether I should tell my parents about my skill. I could pass it off as my quirk since it is an electric type like theirs. It will discredit the doctor who said I'm quirkless, but eh, he's not family so I couldn't care less.

After not much thinking, I decided to tell them. As a filial child with the goal to become the best daughter ever, I shouldn't keep something like this a secret. In fact, telling them will probably get me closer to my goal. I will keep quiet about my secrets that will cause problems of course, like regarding my reincarnation. That secret is going with me to the grave or until I meet Dio-sama again. The only thing that can get that secret out of me is a mind reading or memory viewing quirk. But I have plans for that already. I just need to reach the correct level…

The last thing I have to do now is optional, but I'm deeply interested in finding out because that thing I have to do is… Figuring out why my mom moaned when I accidentally used my skill on her. It must have felt good considering the blush she had at the time. Maybe I can develop a special massage that can replace Guilt Trip-san who I have sealed and banished to the shadow realm. My over reliance on it was negatively affecting my family life, and it would interfere with my goals so I had to say goodbye to my trusted trap card.

Anyways, I guess I should just ask my mom directly. I can also tell her about my "quirk" at the same time.

I know I made a promise to keep what happened a secret, but an amazing superhero from a movie in my past life once said "The best promises are the ones you can't keep."

Chapter End

A/N:

Time skip coming soon. Not a long one though. I still have some pre-canon stuff planned.

Now I've heard that it's not the volts that hurt you but the current. However, MHA uses volts in Kaminari's attacks, so I didn't go into the complicated electrical discussion. This chapter was enough of an info dump as is.

This is the weekend guaranteed chapter~ Next chapter should be out in 2 or 3 days.
