Death stood before Charles. Literally.
It stood there holding an enormous scythe that was 1.5 times bigger than itself. The butt of the scythe was chilling on the ground.
Although Death was a skeleton body wearing a black cape, only the skull could be seen as the rest of the body was shrouded in darkness. Negative energy seeped out as a black mist.
There were no eyes but bottomless pits in its empty eye sockets. It wore a gold crown on top of its skull to differentiate it from its underlings, the Grim Reapers.
Charles was always afraid of Death even though he couldn't be killed.
He had called upon Death to orchestrate Elijah Whitlock's death either in an accident or a murder, so Death gives him a report.
It shook its head.
In the beginning, when Charles had to work with Death for the first time, he was afraid that they'll have communication issues as Death didn't speak. However, below Death were captions provided by the System.
{Elijah's life cannot be taken. The Goddess of Fortune has placed a lock on the thread of life. I cannot break it.}
Well, bollocks.
Charles gave his brightest smile.
"I see. That is unfortunate. Nonetheless, thank you for your hard work. Have a lovely day!"
Death gave a slight nod.
{Pleased to be of service. Have a *pleasant* day.}
Death turned his back on Charles, made a cut in the fabric of space with his scythe, and entered it.
Charles took out a handkerchief and wiped the sweat on his temple.
F*ck!
Death was actually a friendly person. Though since his tone radiates death, he scares everyone. There were few who liked to be in his deathly presence. He was lonely but too shy to socialize with others.
Charles always breaks a sweat looking into those empty and black eye sockets. They were pretty creepy, but he kept giving "eye contact" because he feared offending Death.
He remembered when he was drunk in the Ball back in the 18th century; he had seen glimpses of a skull in the crowd. Then when he died, Death escorted him to the System's space.
Death was rowing the boat with the pole end of his scythe in a dark space. The only light source was a moon in the sky.
It scared him shitless.
Every time he saw Death, he would suddenly feel mortal again.
Death had felt sad for Charles' fate, so Death visited Charles early and had a conversation with him on the boat even though Charles didn't hear a single word. He wanted to give Charles warm company on his way to the System's space.
Charles recollected his marbles and remembered what had happened.
Other than having a scent of the Goddess of Fortune, there wasn't anything special about the boy. He was plain looking and average. Actually, he was a bit ugly in his opinion and was a sore loser.
Perhaps his standards had been raised higher since living in the System's space. Heroes had good looks so he was doubtful.
For some reason, he was favored by the Goddess of Fortune, and she changed his fate by blessing him a luck boost,
His original life was that of a computer nerd, and it was mundane.
The Goddess had changed his script so that he would live a better life.
Charles sighed.
"Fortuna's getting wrapped up again."
Fortuna had a heart of gold and although it was unprofessional to grant her blessings to just anyone, once in a while she would help someone she emphasized with. If she could, she would give everyone her blessings.
However, in the eyes of everyone else, especially the Roman Gods. Her actions were like a woman who couldn't stop picking up stray dogs despite going over her capacity.
This infuriated her ex-husband Pluto. Although it was just once, Fortuna had fallen in love with someone she protected. Pluto found out and killed him.
Ever since then, her ex-husband would burst into rage and kill every time he found a man wearing her scent.
Pluto had gone too far. Jupiter, the king of Gods made him the ruler of the underworld. He then referred to himself as Hades.
"There's only one person who could break her spell…"
The Angel of Death.

"Move from this spot, and I'll dunk yer head down this toilet bowl. Ya got it?"
"Yes…"
*Riiing*
The last school bell of the day rang.
"See you in year 10 dickwad."
Jason let go of Elijah's collar by throwing him into the toilet cubicle.
"Faggot!" David said before giving him another push.
"Wooooooot!"
Jason's gang ran out of the toilets and waited outside to make sure that he wouldn't leave. There was a pink female restroom sign on the door.
A group of girls was coming over. The girl in the lead was Jason's ex, Nicole.
They went over and made out with each other, going into a French Kiss before the group separated and ran off. The group of girls was ecstatic as if they received some wild energy from that interaction.
Elijah heard the door to the girl's toilet swing open.
'Crap!'
He was about to leave when he heard the noises of Jason's gang gradually fade away as if they left, but they must have made sure that a group of girls was coming in.
The cubicle they left Elijah in had a broken lock, so he stood on top of the toilet seat and leaned over to keep the door closed.
He heard the sounds of girls talking and doors closing as some went into the cubicles.
He could hear them pee...
He was sweating bullets and hoped that they couldn't recognize a guy's deodorant in the next cubicle. The girls were chatting as if they had noticed nothing.
Elijah was figuring out how he could get out of here without getting caught. Even if it seems quiet, someone could catch him exit the girl's bathroom. So he decided to stay in here until 4 pm when it was mostly empty.
The door to the girl's toilet opened again and someone went into the cubicle on his right.
'It smells like…'
He recognized the girl's perfume, and he got even more nervous.
'It smells like Alyssa!'
One of the most popular girls at school. If Nicole was the baddest bitch and prom queen, Alyssa was the complete opposite. Smart, kind, and everyone loves her.
Particularly Elijah.
Double upload for yesterday's missed upload as promised. Starting to feel better from switching to a higher calorie diet.
Started dating a second girl maybe, it's a bit of a headache to suss both of them out.
The end of this chapter is based on a dream I had about the first girl I'm dating.
