Chapter 28: My Name Is Yamato, My Dad Is Kaido, And We Are Pirates!
Kaido held Yamamoto in his left hand while Pudding clung to Yamato's right. He kicked open the door, revealing the three disasters and the Flying Six waiting inside. He tossed Pudding to Black Maria and Yamato to Sasaki, then said, "Take a good look at these two, and inform me as soon as Yamato wakes up."
"Yes," echoed Black Maria and Sasaki twice in unison. They picked up their charges and nodded, turning to lead them away.
Kaido then turned to Jack, instructing, "Jack, you take people to the nations. I saved their lives, so you must get something in return. Bring me back all the valuable things you find!"
"Yes," replied Jack, who was even taller than Kaido, and he promptly departed.
Next, Kaido ordered Who's Who, Ulti, and Page One, "Keep supervising the people below and promote the use of Emission as quickly as possible."
"Understood," the three responded in agreement.
Kaido continued his orders, addressing Ember, "Above the town of Magic Valley, there is a Sky Island in the first half. Go there and find a man named Enel to bring back to me. If Sky Island is missing and gone to the moon, he must be in one of those two places. Also, be careful; he's a Logia Thunder Fruit user." Kaido recognized that Enel could survive in space and considered that he might too, but still deemed it safest to send Ember. Being of the Lunaria clan, King had the capability to survive in space, making him the ideal choice for the task.
"The moon? Understood," King confirmed.
Following the distribution of orders, one by one, the subordinates left until only Queen remained.
"Big brother, what about me?" Queen inquired, pointing at himself.
"How is your technology progressing?" asked Kaido.
"Speaking of which, I've had a surge of inspiration lately! I have new ideas for poison gas! Mhahaha!" Queen exulted.
"I'm asking about the tech factory," Kaido specified. He had previously instructed Queen to allocate part of the factory for technological development. The goal was to equip the Beasts Pirates' low-level soldiers with abilities similar to the Germa 66: stealth, flames, lightning strikes, poison gas. Implementing these enhancements would ensure ordinary pirates could crush the Naval Headquarters. A direct assault on Mariejois would then become feasible, and Kaido questioned who could stop him.
"Uh, the factory will need about ten more days. I'm still fine-tuning the technology for them," admitted Queen, his usual excitement and confidence diminished.
"What's the budget?" Kaido probed.
"Probably around 30 million sets," Queen estimated hesitantly. Kaido pondered the quantity—Beasts Pirates had thousands of soldiers. The total cost would run into the hundreds of billions, which was more than Kaido had anticipated. Yet, he knew the world was not short of wealthy individuals, including one who held twenty percent of global wealth. Kaido believed that, if necessary, he could also seize the gold in the sky to secure tens of billions. Thus, a lack of funds was not a major concern.
"Keep at it. I'll secure the funds," Kaido assured him.
"Yes," Queen replied, wondering where he would find such a large sum.
Two days later, it was the eve of the death anniversary of Kozuki Oden and his followers. Pudding had awakened with no memory of the day's events. She only knew she had fallen asleep after Kaido took her, later waking up in a comfortable large bed. Black Maria seemingly anticipated Kaido's instructions and did not bother to explain, calmly allowing Pudding to remain at ease, with no thoughts of leaving Wano Kuni.
She felt like she was being held captive, spending her days on the deserted island of Wanokuni. She hadn't even had the chance to ask Kaido, "Why did you bring me here?"
Kaido's daughter, Yamato, was under constant care, receiving full medical treatment and an unending supply of nutrients. She was healing rapidly thanks to the powerful regenerative abilities of her phantom beast species. Her robust physical health left both Dakanban and Who's-Whokong astounded. Aside from being told by the doctor that a head injury had caused her to lose her memory—retaining only memories of her beloved father Kaido—she suffered no lasting effects.
One day, she lay on the hospital bed, feasting voraciously, making the meal-serving doctors feel somewhat embarrassed. When Kaido entered, he gently pushed the door and stepped inside, immediately noticed by the attending doctor. The doctor quickly made the sensible choice to leave the room, carefully closing the door behind him.
Yamato looked up from her meaty indulgence, greeted by the familiar face beside her bed. Her smile was bright as she cheerfully addressed Kaido, "Daddy, you're here! Have you eaten yet? Would you like some?" Holding out a large bone with meat still clinging to it, she offered it to Kaido.
Kaido, noticing a bite mark on the meat, declined, "No need, I'm not hungry yet." He then placed his large hand on Yamato's head, stroking it softly. "Today, I came to see if your body has recovered," he said.
Since waking up, she had stopped talking about being Kozuki Oden, had set aside her daily plots to assassinate Kaido, and instead, she eagerly anticipated seeing him, lying pleasantly and persistently using the word "father." Kaido found himself with a daughter who was beautiful, powerful, and deeply affectionate towards him, making it impossible for him not to dote on her.
"Recovered! My strength feels like it has returned," Yamato exclaimed, rolling up a sleeve to flex a well-toned muscle, showing it off with a couple of shakes. She winked, sticking out her pink tongue, "But I'm still not as strong as you, father."
"In time, I will train you well. How about your memory?" Kaido inquired further.
"Hmm... It hasn't come back yet. I can't seem to remember anything else," Yamato responded, his frustration evident. Kaido's reassuring hand interrupted her distress. She smiled back bashfully, "It's okay. I still remember you."
"And do you know who you are?"
"Myself?" Yamato pondered briefly before responding confidently, "My name is Yamato, my dad is Kaido, and we are pirates!"
Kaido couldn't help but smile, reaching into the space behind his back. In his palm rested a fox that had consumed the phantom beast species. He presented it to Yamato as a gift for her healing "wounds."
Yamato's eyes sparkled as she took the fox into her arms, rubbing her cheeks against its fur in delight. The fox reciprocated affection, licking Yamato's hand without resisting.
"So cute! I love it! What's its name?"
"It's called a fox, which is both its name and its species."
Its original name was "Onimaru," but Kaido would not let it keep the name given by the Shimotsuki family.
"Thank you, Father!" Yamato beamed with joy.
At that moment, the system emitted an alert, "Ding."
"Objective Four: My Unfilial Daughter (Completed)."
"Settlement in progress."
