“If they had, don’t you think I’d have said so,” Coop muttered.

“Just making sure,” Reynolds replied. There was a long pause before he said, “It has to be them, Coop. You were instrumental in bringing Seward down. Zane, since research is your forte, I’ll send you all the information I’ve got on the people who worked for Seward and you can take it from there. Before either of you do anything else, though, I want you to get out of town, and not to your place, Coop. If they know the name you’re using now, and obviously they do, it wouldn’t take much for them to backtrack and find out where you’re living.”

Coop glanced at me before replying, “All right. We’ll get on that first thing.”

I wanted to protest that I had a job here. One I was due to show up at the next evening. I didn’t, because stopping whoever wanted Coop dead was more important. I’d already lost one man in my life. I wasn’t about to let that happen again if I could help it.
