The Darkness

Mia vaguely heard the nurses gossiping about the hickey on Ava's neck. She was a bit confused isn't Mr. Knight abroad? Then how could Ava get a hickey? There must be a mistake. She decided to ask Ava later and concentrated on her work. After her work was done it was almost noon she decided to check in with Ava. When she got to Ava's office she saw Ava was eating a piece of bread and a glass of milk.

"Ava, didn't you have breakfast in the morning?" Mia asked. She knew Ava was very serious about her meals and almost never skipped one.

"No, I have." Ava lied, in fact, since morning this was the first bite of food Ava took.

"Then why are you eating bread at this hour?" Mia sat down opposite Ava.

"I had a light breakfast and now I'm hungry," Ava said taking a sip of milk.

"What happened to your neck? Outside everyone was talking about it." Mia asked looking at the red mark.

"I got a heatstroke and twisted my neck," Ava said in a light tone with a smile.

Now that Ava has collected herself she was lying to everyone effortlessly. She would never tell another soul about last night.

"Oh! Alright, you finish your food, I'll go back to work."

"OK." Ava nodded.

After work, Ava went home directly. She stayed the whole evening in her room only came out for dinner. Before going to bed, like every day Oliver called.

Ava kept staring at the flashing phone and hesitated whether to take it or not. But it kept ringing so she decided to take it. Oliver was working there in US, if she didn't pick it up or tell him over the phone that she wanted to break up with him, then he might get distracted and that will affect his work. She didn't want that to happen besides a selfish part of her wanted to hear his voice. When he comes back he will find out everything and she may never get a chance to talk to him again. So she picked it up as if nothing happened.

As soon as Ava picked up Oliver asked, "Av's baby are you alright? Why aren't you answering your phone?"

"I am fine, I was in the shower," Ava said lightly.

"Take the shower early from tomorrow," Oliver said with a smile and turned. Uncle Joe was packing his luggage for him.

The business trip was very smooth and successful. They wrapped up everything two days earlier and he was traveling back to the city today. He wanted to surprise Ava so he didn't mention it.

"OK, how is your work going?" Ava said softly.

"Everything is going very well. After all who is your boyfriend?" Oliver who was completely unaware of the storm that was coming toward him kept joking.

"Yes, our Oliver is the best." Ava could not hold back her tears anymore she covered her mouth with her hand and silently let the tears fall.

"Hey did you changed your cell phone?" Oliver suddenly changed the subject.

When Oliver woke up today out of habit he opened the location app to check Ava's location but he was puzzled when he saw the app wasn't connecting. The phone Oliver got for Ava, can locate anyone's location as long as the sim card was inside even if it was turned off. So when the location app wasn't working Oliver figured out she must have taken out her sim. But he just couldn't understand why would she do that. Oliver was so worried about Ava that he was calling her like a crazy person. If it wasn't for Uncle Joe who talked to Ava's bodyguards and confirmed that she has entered the Green villa, Oliver might have already called the police.

Ava got flustered hearing Oliver's question, she didn't expect he would know from there that she wasn't using the phone, "Yes, I broke the phone accidentally so I bought a new one."

"You broke it? How?" Oliver narrowed his eyes, he didn't know why but he had a feeling that Ava was lying to him.

"I fell and it broke but how did you know I changed my cell phone?"

"Well, I can see your phone name online."

"You are so smart." Ava smiled.

"Baby, do you miss me?" Oliver went to the window and looked at the distance.

"Yes." Ava immediately replied. Of course, she misses him. She misses him terribly. If he didn't go to the US then last night wouldn't happen and she would be in his arm right now.

"Then I'll fly back tomorrow," Oliver said in a joking tone.

"No, finish your work first. Work is very important. Didn't you say you want to support me?" Ava said gently but she felt lost. These are the last moment she would be enjoying with Oliver she wanted to imprint them in her brain forever.

"Greedy women, you think I don't make enough money for you to spend?"

"No... no, you make enough."

"So I'll be back tomorrow, OK?" This time he said it seriously, he will reach the city by tomorrow afternoon.

"No, Oliver, make more money than take me to see the world in the future," Ava said with a smile. Ava always wanted to travel around the world with the love of her life. But that dream seems like only a dream now.

"OK, as you wish, madam. You are the boss." Oliver said with a charming smile and in a spoiled tone.

After chatting with each other for a while, Oliver urged Ava to go to bed as he has to go to the airport. They said goodbye and hang up the phone. Ava turned off the light and closed her eyes but the tears couldn't be stopped and keep flowing until there was nothing left to flow.

Both of them were in a different mood at that time. One had all the hope and happiness for coming back to his lover, whereas the other had lost all her love and happiness and kept herself pushing into the darkness.
