Stupid woman

On Sunday night, Ava decided to visit her parents. She hasn't seen them in a while so she thought why not just show up and give them a surprise? Ava showed up unannounced but when she entered her house she was surprised to see Orion there. Not only that, he was actually giving James a massage on the head. She had already heard about Oliver's visits with Orion but she never thought the boy who was usually so cold was so warm with her parents, she could tell by their interaction that they were very close to each other like real grandfather and grandson. Ava had a foreign feeling in her heart, the scene made her heart warm like honey at the same time the realization that the boy was Oliver's but not hers made her feel bitter. At the thought of Oliver Ava looked around but when she didn't see him anywhere she was relieved and finally walked to the living room. However, the moment she was about to sit on the couch Oliver came out of the kitchen holding a bowl of sweet and sour pork tenderloin. He was in his casual clothes, looking handsome as always and giving out an aura of a thoughtful son, husband, and a father. Ava stood there stiff as a board.

"Miss Mackie," Orion called out excitedly. Oliver looked at Ava and smiled.

"Hey Orion, how are you doing? " Ava blinked and looked away from Oliver and smiled at Orion widely. She didn't know what was about this boy but whenever she saw him her heart would melt.

By then James also opened his eyes and smiled warmly at his daughter, while Lily came out of the Kitchen excitedly and hugged her daughter. "Ava! What a pleasant surprise. Why didn't you tell me that you are coming to join us for dinner?"

"I wanted to surprise you." Ava said lightly as she glanced at Oliver who was helping his mother to set the table.

"That's great! Right on time, come we are ready to have dinner." Lilly pulled Ava toward the dining table.

Oliver sat between Orion and Ava and started to serve food on their plates like he does it all the time. The scene while embarrased Ava it pleased James and Lilly. But no one said anything to make it awkward, Ava lowered her head and start to eat silently. Ava cursed herself for not telling them beforehand that she was coming, if she did, she wouldn't have to have this awkward dinner.

At the dinner table, James and Lilly both of their concentration was Orion, they were talking, laughing and serving food on his plate. Ava felt a bit left alone but didn't mind, she cannot be jealous of a boy now, can she? Oliver picked out a piece of meat and put it on Ava's plate. Ava was surprised but she still smiled politely and said, "Thank you."

"Ava, do you know all these years Oliver would come and have dinner with us every week no matter how busy he was," Lilly said it with delight.

"Well, from now on I'll come every week and have dinner with you," Ava said with a smile but her heart felt twisted. She wanted to tell Oliver that he didn't have to do that anymore since she was back after all they were not his parent he didn't have to be filial to them.

"Orion, eat this kelp, they are very nutritious for you." Ava put some kelp into Orion's plate and said lovingly. But Orion looked at the kelp with a disgusted look on his face.

"He doesn't like kelp very much." Oliver said lightly as he picked up the kelp from his plate and put them into his own.

Ava chuckled thinking this little guy's food habit was a lot like hers when she was a kid. She said to Lilly without thinking, "Mom, do you remember, I also didn't like kelp when I was about his age!"

"How can I forget that, you were so picky about your food. I had a hard time raising you. You wouldn't eat steamed fish, wouldn't eat nutritious vegetables. Only liked to eat fried unhealthy food." Lilly said shaking her head.

"Orion also doesn't like to eat steam fish and vegetable, and like fried food most of the time. " Oliver said lightly and kept eating his food.

"You are right Oliver, this little guy's food habits are more like Ava's," Lilly said nonchalantly and laughed.

Ava also smiled and kept eating. Oliver looked at the woman beside him helplessly and thought how stupid was she? He was hinting to her that Orion got her food habit but she didn't react at all. Does she even have any brain, how can she not make the connection? If it was some other woman she would definitely stop eating and wonder if Orion was her son, but this one beside him was eating like a hungry ghost. If she had only asked him once, he would have told her this was her son, she gave birth to him. In the end, Oliver sighed in his heart and put some more meat into Orion's plate in frustration.

On the other hand, James heard Oliver, he stopped eating and stared at Oliver with wide eyes. Does Oliver meant what he thought he meant? James was an observant and wise person, he immediately understood the meaning behind Oliver's word. But he was puzzled to why Oliver never said that before, he stared at Oliver questionably. Oliver felt his stare, he also looked at James and realizing that James has found out, he just shook his head lightly indicating not to say anything. James nodded once but couldn't help to look at Ava and then Orion. Now that he knew Orion was Ava's child he could already see the similarity between them. How did he not notice it before? How many times he has wished Orion to be Ava's child. In fact sometimes when Orion would act in a certain way that would remind him of Ava he even wondered if he was Ava's child but he never had the courage to ask Oliver But now that Oliver has confirmed it, he was eleted. However, looking at his daughter whose full concentration was on her food, he also could only sigh in his heart. He wondered if all the women in the world were same, only made connections to the silly things, ignoring the most obvious things. This was the first time since Ava came back James was very hopeful that when Ava finds out that Orion was her son, maybe she and Oliver could finally be together. At that thought, he smiled and ate with even more appetite.
