Asking for Daniel's help

Daniel took a sip of his coffee and asked Ava curiously, "So what is that you wanted to tell me and why didn't you go to the hospital today?" In fact, Ava's call today made him think there was something in her mind, she wouldn't call just like that so he was very curious.

"I quit my job at the hospital," Ava said lightly.

"Well, you are pregnant it's the right thing to do. You cannot work hard and tire yourself anymore." Daniel said with a faint smile but his heart was in pain. Every time he thought she was pregnant, he wanted to scream. What could be more sad, than watching your beloved woman bear someone else's child?

Daniel has been in love with Ava for a long time even longer than Jacob. Although he never had the chance to tell her but he never dated anyone else. It was only Ava who has always been occupying his heart, so how would he let her go that easily?

"But that's not what you wanted to tell me, right?" Daniel asked narrowing his eyes.

"No..actually brother Daniel I am getting married, next Friday. And I would like to invite you to come and share the happiness with me. Will you come?" Ava asked hesitantly, she knew Daniel and Oliver didn't get along well so it would be understandable if he said he didn't want to come to the wedding.

Daniel clenched his fist under the table and looked at Ava a little shocked. Oliver agreed to marry her? He didn't know what he felt at that moment. His heart, felt like stabbed by a sharp knife, it was suffocating but he kept a straight face. She was getting married...to Oliver. Daniel never thought Oliver would actually agree to marry her. In fact, deep down he wanted Oliver to betray her so he could be there to pick up the pieces for her. But now every hope he had was gone.

After a while, Daniel said in a gentle voice forcing a smile, "Congratulation! I am really happy for you Ava! And how can I not come to my favorite sister's wedding? Of course, I will come and bring you a big red envelop."

All the worry on Ava's face was gone in an instant. She smiled brightly and said, "OK, it's a deal." Ava was really happy that Daniel was so sensible to put down his and Oliver's dispute for her sake and decided to come to her wedding.

"I wish you a happy life in advance." Daniel's heart ached. He never got to tell her how he felt for her, she will probably never know in this life that he loved her so much.

"Thank you so much, Brother Daniel," Ava smiled happily, completely unaware of the pain Daniel was going through at that moment.

Daniel stared at Ava and thought how could God be so unfair. Such a beautiful, bright, tough, independent and kind girl is going to marry a scoundrel and double-faced Oliver. In this world, were the men like Oliver would get all of the good things and men like him would get nothing?

"Brother Daniel, I also need a favor from you. Can you help me find someone?" Ava suddenly looked at Daniel with a serious face and asked calmly. This was the main reason Ava came to see him today, to ask for his help.

"Who is it you are looking for?" Daniel asked with a creased eyebrow.

"Melody's parents, I want to know where they are." She always felt there was something wrong with the information Oliver gave her. He said that they went abroad but Melody's family was not really rich, then how could they afford to go abroad? Moreover, if Melody was dead then how can her parents just leave when she was buried here, and if she was not dead then there was more reason for her parents to be here. It's not that Ava didn't believe Oliver she just thought maybe the men he sent to get the info didn't sincerely look for them. Since Daniel was a prosecutor he would have advanced methods to find someone, and if he also couldn't find them then she will give up and let it go for once and all.

"Why do you want to find them all of a sudden?" Daniel asked confusedly.

"Actually Brother Daniel, I need some answers, I think I saw Melody in the mall the other day. I want to be sure if it's really her." Ava said lightly.

"What? Then why didn't you stop and ask her?" Daniel did not doubt Ava's words even for a second. He believed Ava wouldn't make a mistake to recognize Melody.

"I was in the elevator, by the time I got out she was already gone."

Daniel nodded in understanding and said calmly, "Well, Ava don't worry. I will look for them and let you know as soon as possible."

Ava looked at him with gratitude and said without hesitation, "Thank you, Brother Daniel."

"Silly girl, thank you for what?"

They talked for a while longer then Ava made an excuse to leave. "Brother Daniel, I'll have to leave now I promised mom I will accompany her shopping. I'll see you later."

Daniel smile and like a gentleman stood up, "I'll drop you home."

"No, brother, you are a busy person, how can I bother you? I'll take a taxi. It's more convenient." Ava politely refused.

Daniel knew Ava well, so he didn't insist, instead, he settled the bill and walked Ava out of the cafe. Outside he stopped a taxi and watched her get on the car and leave. He silently noted down the license plate number and left.
