Chapter 91: Saving Pakura (2)

---Pakura P.O.V.----

Pakura rushed towards the meeting spot in the Land of Water where the negotiations were going to take place. It had been a long journey for her. She had to travel through deserts, forests and finally, the sea to reach the desired location. She wished that she had a flying summon on which she could travel while lazing around.

'Why did Rasa have to send me alone for negotiations with the Kiri? I am not even a negotiator. How am I supposed to discuss the peace claims with them? Even the elders agreed to his demands easily. They usually bicker for days for small matters and they agreed without a second thought for something as big as a peace treaty between two great shinobi villages so easily.' Pakura grumbled in her thoughts as she continued to travel

'I even have to leave the village in secret. I did not even have the time to assign tasks to Maki and the others in my genin squad. Should not the peace treaty be something that everyone in the village knows to calm them down and make their worries disappear? Rasa is scared that Konoha will get to know about their plans and disrupt the peace treaty. His suspicions are warranted as those tree huggers could certainly do it.'

'But I still don't understand how Mist even agreed to peace since they were hell-bent on killing Suna and Konoha shinobi just a while ago. Oh well, this would be good for the village. We need time to recover from the last two wars. We have lost too many talents in these wars. The honored siblings have also retired from their shinobi life. Some peace would be quite good for the village right now.' Pakura stopped her thought process and came to a stop as she saw a mist shinobi approaching her through the mist.

"Lady Pakura of the Scotch Style. I have been sent here to welcome you." The mist shinobi walked to her with a smile.

Something about that smile made her feel uneasy. She had killed many Mist shinobi in the third great shinobi war and surely someone should be the man's comrades or family yet he was receiving her with a smile.

She did not give it much thought though as Mist shinobi were known to be crazy after all. Even the kids there kill each other in their academy. Pakura even thought that the man would be happy that she killed some of his competitors who were on his way to promotion.

"It's truly an honor to meet you," The man said as he calmly walked up to her.

"This mist shrouds the entire area and it is incredibly difficult to travel without getting lost. That's why we thought that someone should guide you." He stopped walking after he was just arm's distance away from her.

"Thank you very much. But I don't think someone of my caliber would get lost here." Pakura confidently said though she inwardly sneered.

'After all, I have killed too many of your village shinobi within this very environment.' She did not say this aloud since she was here for a peace treaty and not for a war of words.

The shinobi embarrassedly made way for her "True, We should leave since it's getting late. After you, ma'am."

'At least he knows how to respect an S-rank shinobi. I thought that people make false smiles during such meetings but for some reason, I can tell the smile on his face is genuine. Oh well, Let's get it over with.' Pakura moved ahead of the mist shinobi and then it happened.

*Ugh*

*Stabbed*

*Stabbed*

Pakura felt pain, endless pain as she helplessly fell down.

She realized what had happened but it was too late for her. She felt anger at both herself and the mist Shinobi.

'Damn it, I can't even move my hands to make hand signs. It looks like this is it for me. My service to Suna ends here. I let my guard down due to my own arrogance and let some no-name shinobi backstab me. I taught my students to not get overconfident and here I am not following that same advice. But why did he even do this?'

She did not even have the strength to ask a question to the man as she just glared at him.

'I should not have never put my trust in a mist shinobi. They would not even hesitate to kill their own. Wait, Is he even from the mist? He might be someone from another village who acted like this to catch me off guard and he even succeeded in his plans. Yes, that must be it. How stupid of me to identify him as a mist shinobi just because of his attire? Pathetic.' As Pakura thought this, the mist shinobi had a bloody grin on his face as he licked the blood of his kunai.

"You must be wondering why I did this. For revenge. You killed several of my village shinobi in the last war and now they could rest easy with your death." The mist shinobi said

'So he really is from Mist.'

"Don't get the wrong idea. Killing you is not enough to satisfy our grudge against you and your village. But at least your death would give us some comfort. The ones who betrayed you in the hidden sand would probably be thinking the same thing."

Hearing this Pakura's eyes widened as she coughed up more blood.

Seeing this, the man's grin grew even more wider as he said "Oh, Do you think that I decided to kill you just because I hated you? Well, That is only partly true. It looks like your village also does not like you and that's why they have served you on a silver platter to us."

Realization hit Pakura but before she could digest it.

"Now let my other comrades also have their shot at revenge." As the mist shinobi said that, several shurikens and kunais were thrown towards her from the mountain.

"Ninja art: Shadow Shuriken Jutsu" A young childish voice shouted loudly as the dozens of shurikens were intercepted in mid-air.
