Chapter 8

A few hours later, Fares finally finished grilling his fifth steak, which he didn't even get to try.

Passing it on to the girl beside him, he found out that she already fell asleep between some nearby tree roots. He smiled at her sleeping face and gathered some huge fallen leaves and covered her up.

"She's so cute when she's asleep." He said.

"Great, now I can finally eat!" He jumped excitedly beside the fireplace and started munching on the steak he cooked.

Fares was so happy that he tore in joy. He didn't care for how bland the meat tasted, he didn't eat in way too long anyway, might as well be his last meal on this planet.

While he was eating he felt himself get slightly more energetic, and not in the way that one may feel when eating after hours of starvation. Though Fares felt it was a little weird, he brushed it off as some type of animal meat he didn't know about.

After he was done, he put even more dry leaves in the fire making up his mind to stay awake as a lookout just in case.

It was scary for him, but he didn't want to be the freeloader, and who knows she might even think he's not worth saving anymore and leave him to these dinosaurs to feed on.

As he stared into the fire he started thinking, 'Where the hell am I? Is it even possible to go back? I can't stay here for long, my family would be devastated.'

Worry filled his thoughts, but after a while, he calmed himself down, took a few deep breaths, 'Forget returning for now. I need to know how to survive in a place like this first. There are dinosaurs for God's sake.'

'Wait what even happened to that Quetzalcoatlus? I am pretty sure that for an animal as huge as this he won't have weak enough skin for a sharpened stone to cut through. And by the sound, I have heard it seemed to die in 1 strike.'

'This girl, she's the key to all my questions. But I don't even know what kind of language is that ?'

'This is going to be one hell of a mystery.' Fares sighed deeply, anyone listening would think he is in a lifetime crisis, but the creepy smile on his face would prove them wrong on all levels.

An unknown time had already passed by while he was lost in thought when he suddenly heard the sound of rustling from the distance.

Fares froze for a second before turning his head to the site of rustling, to see a two meters tall Velociraptor with golden glowing eyes standing 10 meters away from him and staring him in the eyes.

Immediately thinking of what happened in the morning, He stood as slowly as possible to not alarm it and moved towards the girl hoping to get her attention.

The Velociraptor tilted his head left and right, still looking Fares in the eyes.

Roaaaaar~

When it noticed him trying to reach to something not evident through the tree roots it roared and started running towards him.

Knowing he had no time to waste, he looked at the girl snoring lightly, even after that roar.

'Damn it!' He cursed inwardly before going for her makeshift stone knife.

'If she can cut that enormous Quetzalcoatlus with it, he could cut this 'tiny in comparison' Velociraptor with it'

As he was raising the knife the Raptor was about to hit him, he positioned the knife in front of him hoping that the Raptor's velocity would kill it when it hits the knife.

Unfortunately for him, the Raptor smacked him with his muscular tail before its body could reach him, slamming him into a tree.

Coughing up a mouthful of blood and fell to the ground.

Fares kept gasping hard for breath.

'I think I broke a few ribs. But shouldn't I be dead?' Fares thought as he tried to stand up again.

But before he could, the Raptor was already standing above him with a leg on either side of him, its mouth wide open showing a set of extremely sharp teeth.

Fares looked around trying to locate the knife that fell when he bumped into the tree.

When his eyes landed on it, he extended his arms towards it.

The Raptor didn't wait to see what is this human doing, it snapped its mouth towards Fares' head, to which Fares mustered all his power to move slightly to the right evading the snap.

ROAR~

This seemed to annoy the Raptor even more that it roared once more on his face dripping saliva all over his face.

Making use of the small-time Raptor roared, Fares extended his hand grabbing the knife and slashing at the raptor.

But it didn't even leave a mark on its skin. Fares' face dropped immediately. The only purpose it served though was to enrage the Raptor even more.

ROAR~

It roared once more and attempted to snap its jaws at this prey sprawled up in front of it.

Velociraptors usually hunt in packs, but this one was the only one left in the pack after some human killed off its pack.

Following the scent of the human for days, it finally found him. The human in front of it isn't the one who hunted its pack, but it certainly had its scent and knife, it must be one of its companions and must die.

As the Velociraptor attempt to attack, Fares held the knife in front of his face and closed his eyes.

The knife passed through the Raptors' upper palate, penetrating it and directly impaling its head.

It died instantly.

Fares slowly opened his eyes, to see the knife piercing the Raptor's head and crimson blood gushing all over his face. Only then did he relax a little, but that was enough for the Raptor's weight to fall on his already battered body.

He couldn't even move his body anymore.

'I guess it's not so bad. Hopefully, it could act as camouflage from other dinosaurs.' Fares sighed helplessly, even if he wanted to move he can't, and looking at the girl, after all of this noise she isn't even budging.

Fares tried thinking positively until he lost consciousness.
