Chapter 267: Laundry

Jack was in a daze when he returned to his hotel room.

On the way, he almost got hit by a car while crossing the street because he was thinking about something else.

He pressed the wrong floor button in the elevator, and when he opened the door, he broke the lock by accident.

But they were all small things.

Back in his hotel room, he took a refreshing shower and then laid naked on the bed.

Things were going unusually smoothly. He had found the person who might be related to that necklace.

Now, all he needed to do was wait until tomorrow to ask Kara about the necklace.

That might help him figure out what's up with his strange dreams.

But why did everything feel so weird?

He thought about Kara and the girl who gave him the necklace in his dream.

To be honest, they did look very much the same, but he would have to wait until tomorrow to find out for sure if they were the same person.

Thinking about the necklace, Jack reached into his pocket by accident and found that it was empty.

He suddenly realized that he was not wearing anything.

He got out of bed, cursed at himself for being careless, and went to the laundry basket to get his dirty clothes. However, he instantly froze.

"Oh? Where's my coat?"

Jack stared blankly at the laundry basket and then slapped his forehead.

"What a stupid person I am! Kara took the coat!"

As he smacked his head, another question appeared in his mind.

If she saw the necklace...

Jack's eyebrows furrowed as he became worried.

How would he explain it if she discovered it?

He had already checked and couldn't find any similar designs in the stores. The only one he had seen that was almost the same was the one Kara wore around her neck.

She must also know that the necklace is special. What would he tell her if she found out and asked him about it?

That a girl from his dream gave it to him?

He couldn't even believe it himself.

Jack began to regret not checking the clothes before giving them to her.

How would he keep it a secret if she found out?

He needed to think carefully about it.

Meanwhile, at CatCo International Media.

Kara was working at her desk, but every once in a while she looked over at a paper bag on the table.

Inside was Jack's dirty coat that he had just taken off.

She didn't know why she was so concerned about a stranger's coat. She had to look at it from time to time to feel at ease, as if afraid someone would steal it.

"Hey Kara, what are you looking at?"

Kara's friend, tech genius Winn, approached with a laptop in hand. He had been observing for a while and couldn't help but come over to ask.

As he spoke, he reached out to grab the bag but was stunned when Kara suddenly grabbed it quickly and held it close to her chest.

"Well, I don't want to look anymore."

Wynn said as he awkwardly pulled his hand back.

"Don't blame me for not saying it. Did you finish organizing the quarterly sales report that Ms. Grant requested before the end of the afternoon?"

"Oh, damn it! I almost forgot!!"

Kara slapped her forehead, remembering the task, and the pressure she felt from Ms. Grant's intense gaze. She immediately switched into work mode.

Winn shook his head in confusion, turned back to his original position.

Kara kept working hard, and her struggle continued all day.

It wasn't until just before the end of the day that she rushed to prepare the sales report and send it to Ms. Grant.

Even with Kara's Kryptonian stamina, she still felt a bit mentally exhausted after a day of work.

Luckily, she didn't have to work overtime today, so she could go home on time.

She held the paper bag with the clothes close to her chest, like it was her only way to stay alive.

Without stopping along the way, She even turned down her friend Winn's offer to go to dinner and ran straight home.

Once she reached home, she headed straight to the bathroom, but then she faced another difficulty.

How should she wash it?

Hand wash or machine wash?

Dry clean or water wash?

Staring at the coat in front of her, Kara found herself conflicted. She did not have a lot of experience in this area because she had a washing machine.

However, there's a problem. The washing machine broke down three days ago, and the repairman hasn't come yet.

That means she can only wash it by hand.

Or she could take it to the laundry room downstairs.

Kara almost immediately dismissed the second option without hesitation, although she herself wasn't sure why.

To be safe, she even went online to check if it was safe to wash it with water. Once she confirmed, Kara rolled up her sleeves, revealing her fair and thin arms.

"Well, there's always a first time for everything."

Kara looked at the coat in the sink, took a deep breath, and slowly poured some detergent on it. Since there was no basin at home, she had to use the sink instead.

When she poured enough, Kara added an appropriate amount of water. She dropped her hands in and began awkwardly scrubbing.

"It's not that difficult."

After a few tries, she started to get the hang of it. Her movements became more confident and faster, and just then.

"Ding dong~"

Suddenly, the doorbell rang, startling Kara and causing her to apply force with her hands.

Rip!

"Oh my god."

Kara stared blankly at her coat, which had a big tear in it, and her face showed that she was scared.

This was a disaster.

She was going to wash the clothes to apologize, but now the clothes were torn.

How would she explain it tomorrow?

Kara could not stand how much the doorbell kept ringing outside. If it weren't for the doorbell scaring her, she wouldn't have accidentally torn the clothes.

Kara ran to the door without even washing her hands because she believed she had found the culprit.

She swung the door open with a fierce expression, but her words blaming someone instantly got stuck in her throat.

"Kara, why are you so slow?"

Alex outside the door seemed unaware of Kara's weird behavior.

Finally, she complained, "I thought you were working late again."

"But fortunately, you finished work early today. Otherwise, I would've been in trouble. I left a USB drive here last night when I used the bathroom."

Alex hurriedly entered without waiting for Kara's permission and headed straight to the bathroom.

Kara, on the other hand, jolted back to reality and understood that Alex must not see the clothes in the sink.

She turned around to stop her, but it was too late.

Alex had already entered the bathroom and spotted the very noticeable men's coat in the sink. Her eyes widened in disbelief, and her face showed a mix of surprise.

She took the USB drive, walked out of the bathroom without saying anything, and looked at Kara.

"Well, I won't ask whose clothes those are."

Alex glanced at Kara's foam-covered hands and couldn't help but notice her eyelids twitching.

"I won't ask why the clothes are ripped either. I'll just ask one question."

"Go ahead."

Kara dared not look into Alex's eyes and quickly nodded her head.

"Why did you wash it by hand? There's laundry downstairs!"
