Xandar, with its globally extensive surveillance system, immediately detected this horrifying scene.
They dispatched a large fleet to eliminate the source of the chaos—Zane. Though they had always avoided offending Zane, his actions now crossed Xandar's bottom line. If they didn't intervene, who knew what crazed actions Zane might take next!
Seeing the combat ships approaching, Zane's lips curled into a disdainful smile. Calmly, he raised his index finger and pointed at them. In the next moment, a beam of light as thick as an arm shot out, and then split into 574 strands, each just slightly thicker than a hair. Coincidentally, Xandar had sent exactly 574 ships.
These beams, as if guided by some targeting system, precisely pierced through the hulls of the ships, penetrating the pilots' heads inside. Instantly, all the ships lost control and crashed into various parts of the city, causing fires to erupt everywhere.
In the past, Zane wouldn't have been able to perform such a precise maneuver with [So of Light]. But now, with the perfect control from the Power Stone and the terrifying intuition from [Eternal Arms Mastery] Zane could effortlessly execute actions that were previously unthinkable.
Simultaneously, the Ark on the landing pad broke free from its anchor and took off, flying over to hover above Zane. It projected a huge half-body image of Zane into the sky.
"People of Xandar, listen up. You have half an hour to release these two individuals, or say goodbye to your world."
Zane's words, amplified by the Ark, echoed throughout the city, accompanied by full-body projections of Rocket and Groot. The final threat wasn't an empty one; the Ark's weapon systems, including the sole Star Annihilation Cannon, were fully charged.
With the Ark now powered by both the Space Stone and the Power Stone, its firepower was vastly enhanced, with each energy cannon's power tripled. The Power Stone, known for its destructive capabilities, could easily turn Xandar into a wasteland if the Ark unleashed a full barrage.
Detecting the Ark's immense energy output, Xandar's leaders were stunned. They realized Zane was dead serious.
Immediately, Xandar mobilized all resources to locate Rocket and Groot, and sent negotiators to appease Zane. Directly attacking the Ark would be idiotic; not only was the ship hard to destroy, but its collapse would release stored energy, potentially turning half of Xandar into a dead zone.
Unaware of their impending release, Rocket and Groot were busy plotting an escape in the prison.
"Groot, listen, wait until I disable the guards, then get the battery. If you get it first, the whole prison will go on alert, and we're dead!" Rocket said seriously.
"I am Groot."
"No, get it last. If you get it first, we won't escape!"
"Alright, repeat it again!"
"I am Groot."
"Good." Rocket nodded in satisfaction.
"I am Groot."
"Yes, yes, continue."
"I am Groot."
"No, get the battery last!" Rocket yelled, exasperated.
After Rocket's 'patient' instruction, Groot walked to the watchtower in the middle of the cell. He ripped off the casing of a green-lit device and pulled out a battery, proudly showing it to Rocket, who was now dumbfounded.
"I am Groot."
Rocket: "..."
Instantly, alarms blared, the lights turned red, and a dozen security robots surrounded Groot.
"Inmate, drop the battery and return to your cell, or you will be shot!" the warden's broadcast ordered.
Ignoring the command, Groot's branches grew rapidly, holding onto the battery tightly and shouting, "I am Groot."
Seeing Groot wasn't surrendering, the warden ordered, "Fire!"
Groot immediately shielded Rocket with his body, using tree shields to block the bullets.
"Groot, head to the watchtower!" Rocket shouted. Familiar with Groot's troublesome behavior, Rocket quickly adjusted their plan.
Groot, carrying Rocket, charged toward the watchtower, smashing a guard and grabbing the cell control device from his arm.
Meanwhile, Gamora and the terrified Star-Lord, seeing the chaos, seized the opportunity to grab guns from the guards and fight back, aiming to escape.
As Rocket and Groot neared their destination, the prison warden received a direct message from Xandar's highest authority: release Rocket and Groot immediately and escort them back to Xandar with utmost care, or face severe consequences.
Realizing Zane's actions on Xandar, the warden broke into a cold sweat as he saw Rocket and Groot advancing under heavy fire.
He quickly hit the broadcast button, screaming, "Cease fire, stop firing now!"
The chaotic prison fell silent, the inmates bewildered by the sudden order. It wasn't the first escape attempt, but the usual protocol was to increase security and eliminate the escapees. Why stop now?
Rocket and Groot didn't care about the reasons. With the security robots halting their attack, Groot charged toward the watchtower.
As they reached the watchtower entrance, a squad of guards entered, forming a line. The warden, drenched in sweat, rushed in, shouting.
