How did mutants come to be? Their origins date back to ancient times when the Celestials first visited Earth. They experimented on selected human subjects, resulting in the creation of a new species, the mutants. It is noteworthy that during the Celestials' third secret visit to Earth, they were discovered by the Earth's gods, leading to a devastating war.
The origins of the Inhumans are somewhat connected to the mutants. Millions of years ago, the alien Kree discovered the unique potential in Earth's early humans and conducted a series of experiments on them. By combining their genes with human DNA, the Kree created a new species known as the Inhumans. These experiments were intended to produce formidable bio-engineered soldiers. However, due to their ongoing war with the Skrulls, another cosmic empire, the Kree abandoned their experiments and left Earth in haste.
The two species, mutants and Inhumans, initially had no interaction. The Inhuman Royal Family even relocated their base, Attilan, to the Moon. Nevertheless, a reality-altering event caused by Su Chen also affected the Inhumans, leading to some of their members mysteriously vanishing.
Black Bolt, the current king of the Inhumans, was enraged upon learning that the cause of this reality alteration originated from Earth. He ordered the Earth-based Inhumans to use the Terrigen Crystals to catalyze more new Inhumans and to identify the culprit behind the reality shift.
Subsequently, upon discovering the rise of mutants and the actions of the top mutant, Maximus, a member of the Attilan Royal Family, decided to retaliate. With a cold sneer, he commanded the release of Terrigen Mist in two major cities.
"Feel the pain," he declared, spreading his arms and singing in a high tone. "The calamity imposed on us Inhumans will be repaid a hundredfold, even a thousandfold, on you mutants. Let you experience the agony of mutant extinction."
This confrontation was fated. The two species had irreconcilable differences. For Inhumans, the Terrigen Mist signified rebirth, mutation, and the beginning of acquiring superhuman abilities. For mutants, the mist was toxic and lethal, even for Omega-level mutants.
The conflict stemmed from the ancient Kree experimenting on the Celestials' mutant creations, adding further complications. In the comics, the Inhumans rose to prominence on Earth, trampling over the mutants.
"Earth should have been ours long ago. Hiding in a flourishing city on the Moon cannot compare to the beauty of the earthly landscape," said Maximus, Black Bolt's ambitious brother and a prince of the Attilan Royal Family. He saw this as an opportunity to secure a foothold for the Inhumans on Earth. Compared to the rugged surface of the Moon, Earth's vibrant scenery was far more appealing.
"Ignore the dead mutants," he ordered. "Focus on retrieving the newly cocooned Inhumans."
Some Inhuman subordinates expressed concern, "Maybe we should be wary of the top mutant. The Earth-based Inhumans fear his power."
"Hmph!" Maximus sneered. "I thought you were a mutant with how you speak. Are you afraid he'll come to die in the Terrigen Mist?"
"Exactly. A mutant team that tried to challenge the mist just died from the poison."
The Terrigen Mist enshrouded the mountain city continuously, as planned based on local weather patterns. With the mist gradually descending with the mountain wind, the entire city's population was soon affected. The mist not only caused organ failure and death among mutants but also harmed many humans.
The reason was simple: many humans carried dormant X-genes, only unexpressed. General Stryker was a typical example, having a mutant son, Mastermind. This was why the Sentinels in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" nearly exterminated all humans after identifying hidden mutant genes.
Soon, the Earth-based Inhumans began their operation, preparing to collect the newly cocooned Inhumans.
At this moment, a clear footstep echoed outside the mountain city. A tall, slender figure glanced at the mist-covered city built into the mountains and took another step. With a spatial ripple underfoot, Su Chen arrived.
Su Chen walked alone into the Terrigen Mist. The endless fog obscured vision, severely limiting visibility. However, Su Chen was unaffected. The magnitude of this genocide had reached the Utopia faction on the East Coast ten minutes earlier, causing widespread anger.
"This is too extreme! Not only are they targeting us mutants, but they're also killing humans with hidden mutant genes!" they exclaimed, realizing the large-scale threat.
The mountain city had become a death zone. Detecting unidentified personnel transporting cocoons outside the city, surviving humans locked their doors and armed themselves, fearful and awaiting rescue.
It was a tragic sight. Mutants despaired, unable to penetrate the Terrigen Mist, with the first team sent already lost. Helpless and at a loss, Su Chen arrived alone. As he wasn't a mutant, the mist didn't affect him. His infinitely evolving genes showed no reaction to the mist.,
"Supreme..." a kneeling, suffering figure reached out to Su Chen, seeing him as a beacon of hope. Unfortunately, it was a last gasp, the figure collapsed, lifeless.
