Chapter 69: Thor Must Die

"Thor, if we kill you, even if Loki doesn't meet the qualifications to be king, he is still Odin's only son. Odin has no choice, and the people of Asgard have no choice," Tony Stark said.

Thor fell into silence, not expressing any opinion on the words of the three.

He neither denied nor agreed.

But this silence itself already indicated something. Previously, whenever a similar topic was brought up, Thor, being a fan of Loki, would have been the first to defend him.

Seeing Thor's state, Tony Stark and the others didn't dwell on the topic and started discussing the question.

"Thor, based on your understanding of the Destroyer's power, which option do you think we should choose?" Phil Coulson asked.

"Other than Doctor Strange, whose power we still don't know much about, there is only one person most likely," Thor's voice was hoarse. "Me!"

This time, no one made any jokes about the "Thor's Law" anymore. It was all fun and games before, but now that Thor was clearly in a low emotional state, it wasn't the right time for jokes.

"There's only one problem here. If Loki really sent the Destroyer while I was exiled and I still can't wield the hammer," Thor spoke up again. "Without being able to wield the hammer, I cannot defeat the Destroyer."

"Thor, where is your confidence?" Phil Coulson said. "Do you remember the Battle of New York? You were so powerful back then. Not being able to wield the hammer is only temporary. It is inevitable that you will wield it again, just a matter of time. Why can't it be when the Destroyer arrives?"

"Thor, I guess I wouldn't be able to defeat the Destroyer, right?" Tony Stark asked.

"Stark, your armor is somewhat similar to the Destroyer in certain aspects. Perhaps one day in the future, your armor will become powerful enough to confront the Destroyer," Thor looked at Tony Stark and said, "But for now, you're still far from that."

"What about Doctor Banner?" Clint Barton asked. "Doctor Banner has immense strength, an indestructible body, and the angrier he gets, the stronger he becomes. He could be considered the most powerful being on Earth. Can't he defeat the Destroyer?"

"When it comes to that big guy..." Thor didn't immediately come to a conclusion this time. He pondered for a moment before saying, "Doctor Banner is an exception on Earth. He might have a chance to defeat the Destroyer. But the Destroyer itself is invincible. Its destructive beam can almost melt any substance. I don't know if Doctor Banner can withstand it. So if you ask me if Doctor Banner can defeat the Destroyer, I would tell you there's a possibility, but it's very slim."

"So, it's you, the weeping boy," Tony Stark said. "I'm not capable, Doctor Banner has a very slim chance. That leaves only you. Doctor Strange? That name sounds like a street performer. We wouldn't choose someone who knows nothing."

"Thor, previously you speculated that Loki's claim about Odin's death was to provoke you to pick up Mjolnir," Phil Coulson presented a viewpoint. "In my opinion, the provocation wasn't about Odin's false death, but the Destroyer." Phil Coulson's thoughts became exceptionally clear at this moment. "Do you remember the line that Director Fury mentioned in the video where he urged the Avengers to unite?"

"Director Fury said that due to some personal grievances of Thor, a town was reduced to rubble," Clint Barton recited the line.

"Ah, so that's it..." Tony Stark also snapped back to reality. "This personal grievance mentioned refers to Loki's plan against Thor, leveling a town to the ground. That could only have been the work of Loki's Destroyer!"

"Exactly! Thor, the Destroyer arrived in New Mexico, causing the destruction of a town. This incident triggered you, as the prince of Asgard, to not stand by and watch innocent people suffer from your actions. That's why you erupted, picked up the hammer at a critical moment, and regained your godly powers," Phil Coulson said to Thor.

"There's another detail that supports this," Tony Stark also recalled some details. "In the video where I solve the palladium poisoning problem, Coulson was originally watching me, but he was dispatched halfway to New Mexico. In other words, even without the answering space, Coulson would have gone to New Mexico, where he witnessed the Destroyer. That's why he later went after Loki with the 'weapon modeled after the Destroyer.'"

"You're all right," Thor slowly raised his head and uttered his answer, word by word, "I choose D!"

"Correct answer, reward granted!"

A card that looked like a tarot card appeared on the ground, but the design on it wasn't a star or a wand, but a hammer.

"Thor, why do I feel like this hammer looks so much like yours?" Phil Coulson leaned over and took a glance, unable to help himself.

"It does seem to be my hammer," Thor looked at the design on the restoration card, stretched out his hand, and handed the card to Phil Coulson. "I have no use for this thing."

"Thor, this design depicts your hammer. It probably can only repair your hammer," Phil Coulson didn't accept it.

"Repair my hammer?" Thor shook his head. "My hammer doesn't need repairing. It's made from the core of a planet and can't be destroyed! I have no use for this card."

"But it's likely that none of us can use it. You should keep it," Phil Coulson said.

Thor glanced at the hammer on the card, didn't say anything more, and put it away.

Before long, the space started playing a video.

Thor, wearing a checkered shirt and jeans, was skillfully wiping plates in a room. The way he did it, it seemed like he had done it many times before.

"This theory sounds great, Jane," Erik Selvig walked around with a cup in hand. "But without solid evidence, the scientific community won't believe you."

Bang! Bang! Bang!

At that moment, knocking sounds came from the door. The group turned their heads, only to see four individuals dressed strangely, resembling something from the Middle Ages, standing outside the door.

"We found you!" one of them with a big beard shouted loudly.

Seeing these four people, Jane Foster, Darcy Lewis, and Erik Selvig were all wide-eyed in astonishment, dropping what they held in their hands.

But Thor had a look of delight on his face, laughing as he hurried over and embraced the big-bearded man.
