It was Monday now, my first day of work. I woke up pretty early, took a quick shower and then went straight to my wardrobe in search of something appropriate to wear.
Since the incident yesterday, I've been feeling really low-spirited since I woke up. Maybe cause I don't want to see the arrogant Xavier Woods or cause I know he'd try to embarrass me one way or the other again.
I opted out for a red full sleeved blouse and a black pencil skirt, with a pair of red heels. I wore the old locket my mother owned that I stole from her and smiled at my appearance.
I also did a light makeup, and River helped me curl up my long bouncy hair. I took my bag and hurried downstairs to where River was waiting for me with a pancake on a plastic disposable plate.
"Never go to the lion's den on an empty stomach." She said, and I laughed.
River drove me to work that morning and in less than 30 minutes I arrived at the building. I hugged my best friend and on checking my time, I was 20 minutes early so I hurried to the cafe and got Mr Xavier his morning coffee.
I entered the building quickly while giving myself a prep talk about how not to be too shy and show weakness in front of my coworkers and boss.
"Miss Barker?" A brunette woman who I hadn't noticed called out to me.
She was an epitome of beauty, everything she wore from head to toe screamed luxury. She had a very plump lips, ocean blue eyes, short straight hair and beautiful long legs which she didn't hesitate to show off in her mid-thigh pencil skirt, and fancy pumps.
I cleared my throat and plastered a small smile on my face.
Here we go.
"Yes.." I walked a few steps to meet up with her.
"You're one minute late." She said sternly. "Mr Woods isn't going to like that, he's in his office already which is in the last floor. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to come to me and I'll show you around. I'm Stacy and I am the head manager." She spoke so eloquently, no wonder she radiated a certain level of authority.
She's the Head Manager! But wait. Why is the head manager offering to show me around? Somethings up.
"Thank you so much for your kind gesture Miss Stacy, I'll make sure to remember that." I smiled genuinely.
"My office is in the 16th floor, so you'll find me there." With that, she left me alone with my wandering thoughts.
Something's not right, I have this gut feeling.
I immediately proceeded to go to the last floor of the building and face my new reality.
I got to the last floor and walked the long hallway before getting to the large door, I sighed heavily and knocked gently. And with a low "come in" I opened the door.
"I want to assume that you have a wrist watch on your wrist Miss Barker." He spat.
Here we go again. (Face palm)
"I'm so sorry Mr Woods, I got distracted by the head manager at the elevator." I murmured.
"The Head Manager isn't your employer now is she?" He looked me up and down.
"I'm sorry sir." I said faintly.
"I won't be so kind next time Miss Barker, I detest lateness especially from new employees like yourself." Then he went back to typing on his computer.
Arrogant jackass.
I stood awkwardly at the door after shutting it and fumbled with my fingers and paper back of snacks I got for myself.
"Well?"
I looked up to find Mr Woods staring at me like I had dirt on my face.
"Um.. you haven't shown me where I'll be working in yet sir." He then cocked his eyebrows.
I in-turn squinted my eyes in confusion, was there something he said that I missed? I felt stupid at that moment.
Then he frustratingly rubbed his eyes and then pointed at a slightly mahogany desk directly behind me. With a computer, printer, work phone and calendar around it.
I cleared my throat and walked to the desk and set my things on it before pulling the chair out to sit. The chair was extremely comfortable and I was impressed cause judging by the way he acts whenever he sees me, you'd think he'll have me sit on a wooden chair all day.
I smiled indiscreetly at my thoughts and then went straight to arranging my new desk to my liking.
"By the way Miss Barker," my head snapped to him almost immediately.
"Yes Mr Woods.?"
"Get ready in 5 minutes, we have a meeting to go to." That's all? That's all he felt he could tell me? What a jerk.
"Ye-yess Mr Woods." I stuttered. Like a little bitch I stuttered. Ugh.
I facepalmed myself mentally and went back to work.
The meeting went well, or so I thought. But for the rest of the day, I did nothing but set his schedule for the week and make notes for my work activities for the whole week.
Mr grumpy of course said nothing more than two words to me the whole day which was "Thanks, leave."
The rest of the day went without any dramatic event.
Tomorrow I decided, I'll do everything in my power to avoid him and then we both will be fine.
