Chapter 4

"Come on Jason, let's go inside" said Max before walking toward the doorbell while Jason was walking behind him. When they got to the doorbell Max placed his thumb on the doorbell and before long, he received a reply from a manly voice. 

After some time the door was open and standing at the entrance was a chubby man with grey hair. He was no other than Max's father. When Max's father saw Jason standing with Max, he was amused and asked.

"Huh, Jason aren't you going home, it's already getting dark"?.

"Good evening Mr. Kovacs, my mother won't be coming home early today so I decided to spend the time here before heading home" replied Jason after greetings Mr. Kovacs.

"Okay, please come in kids" said Mr. Kovacs after getting a reasonable reply from him.

Jason nodded before walking with Max toward the living room when Mr. Kovacs suddenly recall something and ask Jason.

 "So how is your father doing"?

Hearing Mr. Kovacs asking about his father's health reminded Jason of his father's condition and his mood became sour.

"My father was hit by a car yesterday at work and was hospitalized, that's why I'll be going home late because my mother is looking after him" reply Jason as he told him about his father's condition.

"Your dad was hit by a car"? asked Max with a shocked expression since Jason didn't say anything to him while they were in school.

Jason nodded to his question.

"It's going to be okay, don't worry too much about it and focus on your upcoming examination" said Mr. Kovacs as he try to comfort him. 

"Max, why don't you take Jason to your room to wash up before coming to the dining room to eat supper" said Mr. Kovacs.

"Okay dad, this way Jason" replied Max while leading the way to his room.

When they got to Max's room, Max took off his uniform until he was left with just his underwear before heading to the bathroom while Jason was busy looking around the room. He knew Max's parents were rich but it was his first time entering his room since the day he became friends with him, while he was busy surveying Max's bedroom, Max came out of the bathroom and was kind of proud of himself when he saw the way Jason was looking around like a stranger and chuckle before saying.

 "Hey, Jason why don't you take your bath before we leave for the living room"? asked Max.

Jason nodded before heading to the bathroom to shower and after which, he and Max went downstairs when Mrs. Kovacs called the kids to the dining for supper. while they were eating, Jason was busy watching anime and at the same time eating. When they were done with supper, Max took him back to his room where he sat down on his bed and started going through his notebook while Jason sat close to him while looking through the question Mr. Edward did before sending them off.

"Jason, what are you looking at"? asked Max when he saw Jason focused on his notebook.

"I'm just going through the equation Mr. Edward did" replied Jason while pointing at the notebook.

"Oh, so do you understand it now"? asked Max.

"Yes, after going through it. The way Mr. Edward did it looks kind of easy to solve. Did you also understand it" replied Jason before throwing a question at Max?

"Yes, I've also gone through it before and decided to answer the other questions through the same method later before going to bed" replied Max.

Jason nodded in approval to Max's words before going back to studying. While they were studying, they started asking each other questions concerning other subjects and whenever they come across questions that they find difficult to understand, they will go to the living room to look for Max's father for help which he will gladly help them with the question that they are finding difficult to understand. 

Mr. and Mrs. Kovacs was happy to see the kids serious with their study and even came to the conclusion that it would be better to have their kid go to Jason's place for a visit on weekends to have fun.

When the time was around 6:00 pm, the doorbell rang and Mrs. Kovacs went to attend to it only for her to see Jason's mother standing there.

They both greeted each other before Mrs. Kovacs invited her in. Seeing Mr. Kovacs in the living room, Jason's mother greeted him before asking the duo if Jason came over only for her to see Mrs. Kovacs nodding her head with a smile on her face. Hearing that he is in the apartment, she let out a sigh and was just about to tell them that she want to take him home only for her to hear Mrs. Kovacs saying that Jason and Max are studying in his room and they should be given some time to study since is rare to see kids serious about study and their examination is getting near. Mrs. Donald agreed with her before being told to sit and wait for the kids to round up their studies.

"So how is your husband doing"? asked Mrs. Kovacs after Mrs. Donald has settle down.

"He's doing okay compare to yesterday, we had a little chat today before he fell asleep" replied Mrs. Donald knowing fully well that Jason must have told them about it.

"That's good to hear" said Mr. Kovacs.

"And what is the doctor saying about his condition"? asked Mrs. Kovacs while handing a can of coca-cola to Mrs. Donald.

Hearing what Mrs. Kovacs said, Mrs. Donald almost cried before calming herself and replied to Mrs. Kovac. 

"The doctor said he will not be able to walk again, that is if everything goes well without any accident".

Hearing what Mrs. Donald just said made Mr. and Mrs. Kovacs feel sorry for Mrs. Donald and her son, they knew that Mr. Donald's not being able to walk will make things difficult for them.

 "Mrs. Donald, we are very sorry about what happened to your husband, In case you need anything you can always come to us. My husband and I will try our best to assist your family" said Mrs. Kovacs.

Hearing this made Mrs. Donald's heart feel warm and tears escaped her eyes before Mr. and Mrs. Kovacs could say anything, Mrs. Donald was already on her knees thanking the couple for their kindness.
