Strange Satisfaction

"Maybe we could call Clara for help," Layla suggested.

"No," Kyle rejected without a second thought. He wanted to prove himself to his family. How can Kyle ask for help now? Alexander had proved himself a long time ago, now he wanted to do the same.

"Evelyn is her good friend, so..."

"I said no, Layla. No more discussion on this." Their voice was previously low, but Kyle's voice was a little high, filled with irritation. Few of the people surrounding them turned around to look at them in surprise.

Layla was embarrassed. She just desired to help Layla to overcome this awkward situation. Was it this hard? Clara was their friend, but why would they not ask her for a little help?

Clara felt awkward at this critical time. Looking at them from a third party's point of view was a wholly unusual experience.

Kyle was indifferent even when people stared at him. His face was expressionless as if he had not scolded Layla in front of people.

Clara shook her head and sighed. She was blind earlier. If someone has done that to her, she would have never been able to hold her anger and embarrassment in, like Layla.

Was I like Layla when I was near Kyle? Did I also tolerate this kind of behavior? Thinking about it now, Clara did find that she had tolerated it enough. How stupid was she?

The storm in her heart was dispensed within seconds with no chance of reemerging again.

Layla and Kyle took their order and left. Soon Clara followed once her order was out as well.

When Clara entered the room, her supervisor asked her in an annoyed voice.

"Were you growing the coffee seed?"

"Sorry, Ma'am, it was a busy day." Clara was used to this type of behavior now.

Clara's supervisor took a sip before ordering, "Copy this and arrange it in the meeting room."

"Ohh, Okay"

Clara took the papers and moved to do her work. She used to hate the commanding tone, but now she is immune to it.

Even though she was working, her mind drifted towards Kyle and Layla's conversation.

Clara clearly understood why Kyle rejected the idea of calling her.

How can he call the one person he rejected?

Kyle was a proud person. To be honest, everyone in their circle was. It was believed that once you bowed your head, you lose. With Kyle's personality and upbringing, how can a person who is used to seeing people chasing after him, asking him for help, will bring himself to the opposite end?

It was silly to even expect that from Kyle. What surprised Clara was Layla's thought process. She loved Kyle, and yet she was so ignorant.

Clara chucked. It is wrong to feel good about this situation but seeing Layla's discomfort gave Clara a strange satisfaction.
