chapter 23: falling

JONATHAN/ZANE'S POINT OF VIEW

10 minutes before Heather arrived in the portal

"I'm just gonna check on my crystal ball while waiting for the other users." Grandma Lauren said then she left.

"Alright Ma'am, I'll just wait in here." Someone said.

"Finally! It's like a dream come true that I am in here!" I said in excitement as I run around then I bumped into someone and we fell.

"Oh my gosh, I-I'm really sorry—eek!" I apologized as I looked at him then I noticed my hand on his chest and I immediately stood up.

"I-It's fine, really!" He said as he chuckled and he looked back at me.

"A-Alright, let's just pretend nothing happened back there because it was pretty embarrassing!" I nervously said then I reached out my hand.

"Thanks, man." He said as he reached out his hand then I pulled him up.

"You're welcome. Oh and by the way, I forgot to head to the restroom before I entered the portal, do you know if there are restrooms around here?" I asked.

"Yes, there are, it's in the left corner of this place." He replied as he pointed the direction.

"Great, thanks!" I said as I turned around then left.

As I arrived in the restroom, I looked myself at the mirror then I noticed myself blushing. W-Wait, why am I blushing-?

"Let's just calm down, maybe I had too much lemon juice before I arrived in here." I mumbled.

But, I can't stop thinking about that boy—it felt like love at first—oh no you don't, Jonathan. Be a man and stop overthinking things or you would end up just like Heather. Speaking of Heather, I really do miss her, I wanted to talk to her after what happened between us weeks ago, but I didn't want to bother her with Rafael.

After a couple of minutes, I left the restroom with a frown on my face then I saw a portal appearing six meters away from me. Then there it was, a girl, a pretty girl. I knew I could use a distraction after all my stupid thoughts from earlier. Let's bring back the flirty Jonathan—or Zane.

"Wow! This place is amazing than I thought it would." The lady said as she smiled.

"It sure is." I said from behind as I walked towards her then she flinched and sighed.

"I'm sorry I wasn't expecting to meet anyone the moment I'll arrive in here." She said as she chuckled and turned at me.

"No worries, even though I should be the one who must say sorry." I said as I chuckled back.

She's so cute. Wait—no, ugh I'm such a simp.

"Nice to meet you pretty girl, my name is Zane." I said as I reached out for her hand and she did her confused fave then I kissed her hand and she released her hand from me.

"Y-Yeah, nice to meet you too." She said.

"Gemini! Zane! Over here!" Grandma Lauren shouted from afar then I looked at Gemini with a smirk.

"A pretty name for a pretty girl, how lovely." I said as I smirked.

"Let's just go and meet up with the rest, shall we?" Gemini asked then I nodded and we walked towards Lauren and the other guy.

Ugh, why did my flirting skills failed just like that? But, she is just a distraction, I don't want to be in the lovey dovey section for a moment after the break up I had with Jasmine weeks ago.

Timeskip 20 minutes after the training

Suddenly, I fell on a hole, a meter away from the portal as Gemini went inside along with Grandma Lauren.

"Zane!" Gemini shouted as I fell.

"Gemini! Take care of Lauren!" I shouted back as I looked up.

"I'm coming to save you, Zane!" Avior said as he jumped off.

"No!" Gemini shouted.

"Well, do you have any plan before we die from falling?" Avior asked as he shouted then I glared.

"I'm sorry, Grandma." I mumbled.

"By the power of Magicia, I ask to use the power of Telekinesis to control Avior and I from falling." I recited the telekinesis magic as Avior did his confused face.

"Get ready!" I shouted then he nodded and I pulled up my hand as I faced it down.

"Great, now all I have to do is-" I said as I looked down then Avior fell down on top of me and we fell down to the ground.

"Ow." I said as I grunted in pain.

Avior's fall may affected me, but damn he smells so good like—oh no Jonathan, what happened to you? Please don't sound gay for a second.

"I-I'm really sorry Zane, a-are you okay?" Avior asked as he grunted in pain and he slowly flipped over next to me.

"Of course I'm in p—I mean, I'm g-good, yeah." I replied as and I slowly sat up.

"Are you sure? You know you can t-tell me the truth." He said as he looked at me.

"Beautiful eyes." I mumbled as I looked back at him.

"What?" He asked then I zoned out.

"I mean—I'm sure, don't worry about me. What we should worry about is how we get out of here." I replied as he sat next to me.

"I-I didn't knew we have magic on us, aren't we still trainees for now?" He asked then I started to panicked.

"U-Uhh, yes we are, but it just so happened, I learned a lot of m-magic and thought that I would use it to prevent us from dying." I replied then I did a nervous laugh.

Suddenly, a bucket of ice fell onto my head then I flinched and gasped.

"Avior, d-did you do this?" I asked as it finished fall onto my head.

"I don't have any bucket on me or if you're thinking that is my 'hidden' magic, it isn't." He replied as he worriedly looked at me.

"I'm pretty sure it is a coincidence and because of it, I feel very cold right now." I said as I shrugged.

"Well good thing, I brought a scarf on my bag." He said as he chuckled and he opened his bag then he handed me his scarf.

"Th-Thank you, Avior." I said as I smiled and I received the scarf then I wrapped it around me.

"You're welcome, Zane. Once you feel warmer, we can use your telekinesis to bring us back up then we can think of a plan." He said as he smiled back then I nodded

After 10 minutes, I did what Avior suggested to and it worked. Oh to be handsome and clever as—okay that sounded like the corny self of me.

"Alright, so what's the plan?" I asked as Avior sat down next to me.

"We need to go back to the real world and wait for Lauren to feel better." He replied as he looked at me.

"B-But, how could we do it? The crystal ball shouldn't be used by the users especially without the guardian's consent. If we do it once and we will do it again, we will receive another consequence." I panickedly said then we received a notification from our phone.

Avior and I pulled out our phones at the same time as we read the notification then we looked at each other.

"You got a portal notification?" He asked then I slowly nodded.

"Yeah, what about you?" I asked then he slowly nodded.

"Same, b-but, how-?" He asked as he frowned.

"But hey, atleast my suggestion worked, but some mysterious person controlled it." He continued.

"What if its a trap? What if the enemies we will be facing are taking an action now?" I panickedly asked as he calmed me down.

"Don't worry, just like what you said, only the guardians are allowed to use the crystal ball. But, I am pretty sure, Lauren has another person with her with this whole Magicia journey." He replied as I sighed then I did my confused face.

"Who exactly?" I asked in confusion as I looked back at him.

"Her deputy or whatever is called for the guardian's assistant." He replied.

Wow, he is really good. But, how could the holder be in control when I myself is the holder? Something doesn't feel right, I can feel it.

"I think the best way for us to avoid the consequences in revealing anything about our personal lives through the portals is that we should press the notification somewhere far from the both of us." He said as he stood up then I stood up as well.

"You're right." I said as I chuckled then he slowly walked away as I looked at him.

"Hey Avior?" I said then he turned at me.

"Thank you once again, I-I hope we c-could be friends." I continued as he smiled.

"Oh you don't have to worry about that because we are already friends, Zane." He said as he chuckled.

"Y-Yeah, friends." I said as I did a fake smile then he turned around and left.

Why did those words hurt me in the chest? I'm pretty sure I've felt things like this before with every girl I am facing with, but right now, feels different—why?

I turned around as I sighed then I left. I pressed the notification then a portal appeared from my phone and went right infront of me. I entered the portal and after a few minutes, I arrived in my room as I frowned.

"By the power of Magicia, I ask to transform me back as Jonathan." I said then I detransformed.

"I need to head to the hospital right now, but first, I need to call Grandpa Travis. I'm sure he knows where Grandma Lauren is." I mumbled as I pulled out my phone and I stood up then walked out of my room.

As I left my room, I immediately remembered Avior's kind words towards me. Oh you don't have to worry about that because we are already friends, Zane. We are already friends. Already friends. Friends. Stupid friendzone.

"I hope my Grandson finds his Juliet in his life, just like what Juliet and I used to have. Good times." A familiar voice said as I walked passed a room then I did my confused face.

"Grandpa?" I said.

"Grandpa Travis, is that you?" I asked as I looked around.

Then I slowly walked to the room I just passed and I immediately opened the door as I stand back.

"And I thought I was just hearing things." I said as I sighed in relief then I went inside.

"Jonathan! You left the hospital early." Grandpa Travis nervously said as he nervously laughed.

"I-I, I mean—yes I did." I said as I did my confused face.

"Who were you talking to?" I asked as I crossed my arms and I walked towards him.

"What are you talking about?" He asked as he scoffed.

"Literally just a minute ago. Who were you talking to?" I asked as I glared at him.

"N-No one. I haven't told you this, but I l-love talking to myself sometimes." He replied then he did a nervous laugh.

"Alright then, I-I think I'll just head back to the hospital a-again." I nervously said as I walked backwards.

"Just wait for me in the living room and let's head back together." He said then I nodded and left.
