Chapter 20

Karl's curiosity shot up after looking at Ajay's shocked face. He inched close to him and mouthed "What did she say?".

They were in the middle of a discussion in Ajay's study when Diya's call came in. Karl was surprised to see Ajay receiving an 'unknown number' call on his 'personal' phone. No one had Ajay's personal number except for Karl and Veer. Even Sara didn't have it. So he had a guess about who it could be.

Ajay had guessed the same. He was just a little surprised as he didn't expect her to call him so fast but what shocked him was the favor she asked him.

Ajay thought he heard her wrong. "What?".

Diya couldn't bring herself to repeat the 'favor' so she said, "You heard me right. I'm so sorry for asking this difficult favor when we don't even know each other well. Something came up and I need to get married asap. You can say no. I'll just call the next person I have in mi-".

Diya was stopped by the 'no' she heard from the other line. She expected this outcome but still, she was disappointed. To be honest, she only had Ravi and Ajay in her mind. But Ravi is in a relationship and she doesn't have any other male friends. She could only blame her introverted self.

"It's fine. I'll apologize to you in person for today very soon. I need to go n-" she was stopped again by the continuous 'no' she received from Ajay. Diya was embarrassed. "I get it. You don't need to reject me multiple times.".

Karl couldn't help but laugh at Ajay's anxious face. He was dying to know what she asked that made Ajay react this way.

Ajay didn't know how to express the feelings he felt at that moment. The thought of her marrying another man made him sad and angry. But if he says no then he'll be the reason for her to marry another man. He can't let it happen.

"Where are you now?".

Diya glanced sideways at the man she was going to marry in a few minutes. She was wondering what to do after the call when she saw Ajay running over towards her with a worried look on his face. He only calmed down after Diya told him the reason she was in the hospital.

Without having to explain much, Ajay understood the situation she was in and agreed to help her although Diya told him she can ask someone else. Strangely, she felt him getting irritated when she said that. 'Didn't he reject me just now? What made his mind change?'.

Ajay parked the car and turned to Diya, "We are here.". Looking at her hesitating, he smiled at her and said, "I promised that I will do my best to help when I gave you my number and that's what I'm doing. I'm doing this out of my own will.".

Before it could turn into a staring contest, Diya smiled at him and said, "Let's go.".
