Percy didn't wake up until the cinnamon rolls were just coming out of the oven. He looked half-asleep when he first walked out of his room but perked up immediately when he smelled them.
Iris slathered the frosting over them and made her eager children wait a few minutes for them to cool before serving them up. Everyone dug in eagerly.
"These are really good, Mom!" Penelope exclaimed.
She couldn't remember the last time she'd had a cinnamon roll. The cinnamony goodness was a bit of a balm to her troubled heart. Good food tended to have that effect on her. After all, it had been what got her through her first couple of weeks in the other world before she started to get used to things.
A pang of sadness went through her. Now she had to get used to things being different all over again.
