Chapter 26

Cato sat up in the darkness of the tent. He could still see Costa’s cruel smile from the nightmare. What was the messenger trying to show him? Things weren’t making sense. He’s supposed to be with Boudicca? That won’t be happening.

“You need not worry Cato,” Skoll reassured him. “The fates have already decided the outcome. Your task is to play your part. Leave the future in the hands of the gods.”

“Skoll,” Cato muttered. “The gods created man. They should know there is no loyalty where there is no trust.”

“This is why I love humanity,” Skoll chuckled. “I was afraid I’d lost your fiery will.”

Somewhere in the darkness of the tent, Flaithri began murmuring in his sleep. Cato felt the pitch-black nothingness begin to close in on him. Perhaps some fresh air would be in order. It had been a while since he had enjoyed a walk in the night.
