CHAPTER 4

It's been weeks since Kyle and his girlfriend broke up. Of course, the encounters with her are unavoidable but he's not that affected anymore compared to before. We also noticed that the athlete guy is no longer with her after just a few days.

Even if that's the case, he still visits me at my place to hang out or to study, he doesn't care about her at all. He never let me go to his place again after what happened to us at his house. I didn't know that he would be insulted by what I said about his bed, I'm just stating the fact though.

It was almost time for our exams, and as always, he went to my place with his school bag which was full of his notebooks and books. "Good evening," he greeted me and my parents who are currently in the living room. "Hi, Kyle, how's school?" my Dad asked. He also asked me the same question every time I got home from school.

"The classes are boring as always, Mr. Black, but I can manage," he said sarcastically as he looked at me, which made me confused. Why is he looking at me like that?

We went to my room and started to open some books and notebooks as we both sat on the floor. I was scheduled to clean the classroom today with my other classmates, which made me feel so exhausted. I leaned my head on the corner of my bed and closed my eyes for a while.

The sun rose and shone brightly when I woke up. I fell asleep during our revision which is a bad sign. While I'm so depressed about what happened to me last night, I found a note on my bedside table with Kyle's handwriting saying, "I revised all the notes you need, I hope you can use it. PS, don't look at the mirror, please," the note ended there.

It made me curious. Why doesn't he want me to look in the mirror? I jumped out of my bed and rushed to my bathroom. A scream shook our house which made my Mom rush to my room to check on me. "What's wrong?" she asked and immediately covered her mouth to suppress her laughter.

"I'm going to kill him," I swear to her.

He didn't walk with me that day because he felt guilty for what he did, and also because he knows what I'm going to do with him when I see him. We always eat together during lunch, we also have a place where only the two of us eat. I saw him there, playing seriously on his phone.

I slammed my lunch box on the table as hard as I could, which made him startled, he almost dropped his phone on the ground. When he looked up, he started to giggle like a lunatic.

"Ha-ha, funny," I exclaimed sarcastically.

"I hope you already learned your lesson. Do not sleep during revisions," he laughs hard again, "oh, yeah, does Auntie know that you're abusing your lunch box like that?" he points at my lunch on the table. My Mom always reminds me to take care of my lunch box or else there is no lunch for me. She threatened me once that if I lost or broke my lunch box, she wouldn't give me any amount to buy lunch at school.

I am busy checking my lunch box, making sure that it is free from any damage when Kyle called my attention, "Hey!" He covered his mouth like I have an infectious disease then showed me an image on his phone. The girl in the photo is sleeping peacefully but her face is full of small drawings, like a canvas with random drawings.

It took me a while to realize that that was me, sleeping on the corner of my bed. My eyes widened upon seeing the picture, I tried to reach for it but he suddenly stood up which made it harder for me to reach his phone.

"What the heck?" I asked him furiously, "give that to me," I gritted my teeth in annoyance at his childish act.

"What, for you to delete it? No way," he said to me between his laughs. It's good to see him cheerful again, but at the same time, I feel annoyed and irritated. I looked around to see if there was someone who could see us. At the building before our table where we are, I saw some students passing by the corridor.

"I'm going to kill you after I snatch your phone from you," I warned him but he continued to tease me. I tiptoed my feet to try to reach it but it didn't work. I also tried to jump as high as I could but it still doesn't work. I even hung myself on his arm but it didn't move at all.

"Damn you, Kyle," I noticed that he lowered his arm low enough so that I didn't need to tiptoe or jump. "Ah-ha," I exclaimed when I successfully took his phone from his hand. I waited for him to take back his phone from me, but to my disappointment, he didn't move at all. His playful expression was replaced with an expressionless one. I turned around to see why he had that kind of expression.

"Hi Nick," Stephanie, so she's the reason why Kyle's expression suddenly changed, "can we talk?" I can't believe how thick-skinned she was. Does she want to talk to him after what she did? I looked at Kyle, and to my surprise, he was also looking at me and not at the girl standing before us. I don't know what he meant by doing so, but I still smiled at him and nodded my head, which he returned with a weak smile.

He walked past her, "let's go," he said coldly to her which she ignored as she smiled sweetly at him. She happily followed him like his tail, while I was left behind, alone. Not so long when I realized that his phone was still in my hand. Should I follow them and give this to him so I can also eavesdrop on their conversation?

No. Whatever they talked about, it's none of my business. I'll just wait for him or I'll go to his place to return his phone.
