“Thank God,” Simone muttered. She had only put milk in one, and black coffee was only for hangovers and all-nighters.

Natia, nursing her coffee and trying to finger-comb the rat’s nest that her long hair had become in the night, was a beautiful sight, especially as she sat on the comforter, cross-legged and only wearing shorts.

It was a beautiful sight the next morning, too, when Simone somehow found herself back in Natia’s bed.

And maybe that Saturday, too, after a long night of work and a walk by the waterfront.

And the next week, after Simone had finally taken Natia out to a nice dinner only to find the woman had never had Ethiopian food, for real, even after being friends with Mrs. Tadesse for however long.
