A Wizard's Christmas Gift

Mrs. Smith is no longer in Greenwich. She went on a vacation to the old house before Christmas arrived.

Mr. Love Smith did not go with his wife for two reasons. One, because he still had classes at school, and the other, because he had to wait for his son and Bella to leave together.

"Oh, Dad, what about the things I bought?"

Mr. Smith glanced at the rearview mirror and said, "Your mom took them to the old house and handed them all over to your little elves as per your request."

Love has always respected his son's decisions. He didn't think of his son as just a child. As a university professor, he had seen many geniuses who had enough wisdom to solve their own problems at a young age. So, he didn't find his son's early maturity strange at all.

Anyway, his son was a wizard. As long as he didn't want to destroy the world, he could do whatever he wanted. Why bother him so much? It would only make the child resentful.

Having this laissez-faire attitude toward raising his child gave Jon a lot of freedom in life.

Can you imagine the joy of a life where parents support everything you want to do without restrictions? No, you can't even imagine that kind of happiness.

"Oh, Dad," Jon fiddled with the ring on his hand, "how much pocket money do I have left?"

"No one has touched your pocket money; it's all in your account," Mr. Smith said, steering the car into their garage. After parking the car, he asked again, "Why are you asking this?"

"I want to get myself a customized Christmas gift."

Jon didn't explain much about this.

Bella went back home alone after arriving at her uncle's house using the Floo Network. While Jon and Mr. Smith still needed to decorate their home.

After all, it was Christmas, and some decoration was necessary.

Jon didn't have to do any of the decorating; there were only a few ribbons, and Mr. Smith could handle it by himself. While his father had dinner, Jon took his wallet and went out alone.

Jon's neighborhood was relatively close to Greenwich University, and the nearby business market was thriving, especially during Christmas.

But this kind of hustle and bustle didn't hold much appeal for Jon. After all, he had experienced Singles' Day.

After walking on the street for a while, Jon held a candy cane in his hand and entered a handmade custom shop that seemed to have few customers.

This shop had been open for many years, run by an elderly Chinese man with excellent craftsmanship. Jon used to come here to play when he was very young. At that time, he saw the old man making things, so he remembered him very clearly.

As the name suggested, the handmade shop could make anything as long as the request was reasonable.

Jon's purpose in coming here was to get a new frame for his monocle glasses and turn it into a pair of glasses. Although he didn't need prescription lenses, wearing a single monocle was a bit peculiar. The wizarding world was also evolving, and monocles had long been outdated.

Pushing open the door of the custom shop, Jon walked to the counter and woke up the old shop owner, who was dozing off behind the counter.

"Happy Christmas, Grandpa Jin."

The old shop owner wasn't angry about being woken up by Jon; older people always liked children. As an old acquaintance, he liked Jon very much.

"Is little Jon here to wish Grandpa a Merry Christmas?"

The old man put on the glasses hanging on his chest and squinted at Jon.

"No," Jon gently shook his head, "I'm here this time to ask Grandpa to help me make a frame."

He took out the single monocle from his pocket and placed it gently on the silk cushion on the counter.

"Oh, this is a very old style. Is it an antique from your family's collection?"

The old shop owner put on the gloves lying aside and carefully held the monocle frame.

"What kind of frame do you want to make, just for maintenance? I have many frames for you to choose from."

Jon didn't have a particular idea. He just wanted an ordinary pair of glasses. They didn't have to look too good; they just needed to be ordinary.

"You're really giving the old man a challenge!" The old shop owner chuckled and pushed out a small box that matched the size of the lens. "Come, take a look at these frames and see if there's one you like."

Jon picked one and chose a frame that wasn't at all ordinary. It was amber in color, engraved with patterns, and most importantly, it had a small clasp at the lens holder that could be opened without damaging the lens during installation.

Although the lens looked plain, it was inscribed with several magical runes on the contours, and it was filled with a gel produced by magical plants from the Forbidden Forest. It was not visible on the surface, but it was exquisitely crafted inside. If it were damaged, only Helga could repair it, and it wouldn't be an easy fix.

That's why Jon instantly fell in love with this frame. After seeing so many, he found it unusually ordinary.

"So, how much is this frame?"

Jon held the brown frame in his hand, examined it, and released a bit of magic into it, extending it from his fingertip into the frame.

There was no response. The magic seemed to just circulate within the frame and dissipated randomly in the air.

Just as he expected.

The old shop owner didn't expect Jon to choose this one in the end.

"This frame is not exactly ordinary either. I thought you would choose the black one."

Jon smiled and replied, "At my age, black doesn't suit me. This amber one is more appropriate."

"Your taste is not bad, but this frame is not cheap."

"No problem, I brought money."

Jon shook his wallet and said, "But I'll trouble Grandpa Jin to fit the other lens for me."

"Of course, of course." The old shop owner was quite quick, already taking out a round lens that matched the size of Jon's lens and began to polish it. After all, it was just a plain lens and didn't require much effort.

After waiting for two hours, Jon finally put on his new glasses.

"You look like a good student."

He looked at himself in the mirror and said.
