Chapter 26: Visitor from the Ministry 2.

Snape looked at Burton with suspicion, 'The Ministry of Magic is up to no good. They sent a former Auror, is it because they doubt that an 11 year old was able to fight a troll, that can't be it, what may be the reason? I will have to inform Dumbledore of this. If he wasn't busy meeting the guests who came to see the Quidditch matches then I wouldn't have had to take care of this. The ministry chose a very bad time for this meeting. Is he here for the stone? It could be that.'

"Burton you need a child to take you around, I remember you were very forgetful even as a student. I wonder how did they even let you join the Ministry of magic." Snape taunted.

Burton looked at Snape with annoyance, "Your tongue is as bitter as it was before. No wonder you haven't found a wife yet, keep this up and you would die alone in the bitterness that you spread. I don't think that Mr. Gremory would mind showing me around the castle."

Before Snape could say anything, Liam intervened and said, "Professor, I am free I can show Mr. Burton around the castle."

'What is this kid thinking?' Snape thought

"Let's go then, I want to see what changes Dumbledore has done in these years." Burton said with a grin.

Snape looked at Liam and ordered, "Go show him around the castle. We wouldn't want our guest to get lost and go somewhere he shouldn't."

Just as Liam heard this he understood what Snape meant, 'The stone, I forgot about it. Snape doesn't want anyone going around the castle while the stone is in the castle. But he still allowed me to show him around, does this mean he trusts me. Maybe I am just thinking too much.'

Liam replied to Snape, "Don't worry professor I wouldn't let him get lost in the castle."

They both left the office and started walking through the hallways.

"Tell me Liam, how did you fight the trolls? The rumors weren't that detailed. I would like to hear the full story from the boy who fought the trolls himself." He smiled.

'Since when did we get on first name basis, this doesn't seem good. He is acting very friendly like he knows me.' Thought Liam.

"I didn't fight the troll, I defended against the troll. My friend was attacked by the troll so I protected her." Liam replied.

"That's quiet the bravery you showed. You are a brave young man Liam also very strong. When I was your age I wasn't even able to use basic spells properly and look at you fighting trolls."

Liam didn't want to continue talking about the trolls, "So where would you like go first Mr. Burton" he changed the topic.

Burton looked at Liam and said, "Take me to the lake. That place is a very nostalgic place for me. My friends and I used to go there every free time we got. You might not know this but the lake is the only mysterious place of Hogwarts that hasn't been totally explored yet. Which made it even more exciting for us. "

"Is that so? I am also very interested in what mysteries. Can you tell me about some of them?" Liam asked with curiosity.

"Let's go towards the lake first. Then I will show you." Burton said with a strange smile.

Liam knew that the lake was very mysterious, the first day he came in Hogwarts he saw a white lady in the lake. Which everyone else thought was a mermaid. But Liam certainly knew that it wasn't a mermaid Hagrid also knew that it wasn't a mermaid, why would he have fired a signal for emergency.

'The white lady wasn't a mermaid I am sure of that but no matter how much I searched I couldn't find anything about the white lady. Mr. Burton seems to know something about the lake which no one else does maybe I can take out some information from him.'

They started walking towards the lake shore which was a bit muddy and cold filled with small pebbles, some sand and dirt. Liam didn't come here a lot he disliked this side of the lake, the secret lake side was much better than this muddy place.

Burton was acting very strange from the beginning, Liam followed him out of his own curiosity. But he may have started to doubt his decision.

Looking at the lake Burton asked Liam, "Isn't this a very mysterious place? I remember one time I was fortunate enough to see a mermaid."

Liam was a bit disappointed, 'I thought he would know something about the White lady. It seems he doesn't know anything. It wouldn't hurt to ask him though. Maybe he knows something. But he wasn't going to ask him directly.'

"A mermaid, I saw one on the first day I came to Hogwarts." Liam boasted.

Burton laughed out loud, "Don't mess with me kid. That's impossible. Even if mermaids aren't that rare of a race. They are very secluded they don't just make an appearance out of spite. Mermaids may be treated as creatures by the Ministry of Magic and the British wizarding world but they are in fact a race. They don't go around showing themselves to public."

"What would I get by lying to you Mr. Burton. I did see her she was shining white and was very beautiful as well."

"I caught you in your lie, mermaids aren't beautiful. They look like fish, you can't just tell me fake stories kid… Wait a minute… Did you say she shined white?" he looked a bit lost in though.

Liam looked at him curiously the expression on Burton's face clearly said that he knew something about it.

"Yes she was shining in white light. It was very beautiful."

Burton smile disappeared, since the beginning he had a strange smile but that smile was nowhere to be seen now. Liam thought that he would ask him many questions but Burton didn't ask a single question to him.

'Mr. Burton surely knows something about. But he isn't opening his mouth I thought he was very careless person who would start speaking just at the mention of that but I was wrong.'

A loud music started playing, the quidditch match was going to start soon.

Burton had a sudden change in his expressions, he went from his serious look back to his smiling face.

"The quidditch match is going to start, let's go." Burton said.

'The match also had to start now, I even left the book in my room if I had it now I would have gotten all my answers. Today my luck is very bad.'
