Chapter 4: First Enemy

Hey, so this chapter is when our MC will finally head to the world of RWBY. Hope you like it.

___

Deep within the lush trees of the forest lay a bounty of wildlife and greenery. A simple sight for those willing to take a break from the mundane and colorless world one would live in.

Even though Esther has been to and seen many forests back on Earth, it was still enchanting to take a walk out of her comfort zone and simply explore. One would think that a helpless child exploring a dangerous place is horrifying to think about.

And yet that same child can punch a boulder with no problems.

Esther continued her trek, walking downstream in her metal-clad boots. Even though sharp rocks and uneven terrain don't matter to her skill [Gamer's Body], it was still a nice touch and appearance for her.

Esther wasn't without a goal. As soon as she revealed her plans, the system had a quest for her.

Sudden Quest: [A Way Out]

319/500 Meters to the enemy

Unknown Enemy Defeated: 0/1

[Reward: 10 Stat Point, 15,000 XP, Mini-Map, Observe]

[Failure: Death]

[Time: Infinite]

"I was trying so hard to get [Observe] and the system just gives it to me? My skill [Sneak] was made through my efforts but [Observe] cannot be?" Esther wanted to ask why this change happened but it was a small change in the grand scheme of things so she simply left it alone. The heat from the argument dying down as well.

As she was approaching her target, Esther kept activating her [Kenbushoku Haki] to get a feel for how powerful this world's enemy is. Her skill with it allowed her to get a sense of her surroundings at 75 meters. It wasn't the best but it was what she got.

Esther finally felt something malicious in front of her. That same direction is where this world's enemy would be her first opponent. It felt evil, negative, and bloodthirsty. These emotions rolled off for anyone to sense, as though they had no fear of whom they would face.

Esther activated [Sneak] to skulk around the place and get a good look at whom she will fight. There were some tall trees and thick bushes and Esther hid behind some of them.

She climbed the tree next to her stood on one of its sturdier branches and looked at her enemy. It was a small clearing and the sound of a loud breath gave some clues to Esther but what she saw widened her eyes.

It was an abnormal-looking monster. Black fur, as dark as ink with bone-white claws and mask. It was sleeping under the sun, unaware of Esther just a few trees before it.

'I know that look. That looks like one of the Grimm monsters in that show my friends watch. I think he explained it as a Beowulf.' Esther thought. 'I haven't watched the show, only some of the fight scenes from YouTube. And from what was shown, as well as some research, Beowulves is one of the common enemies in RWBY. They hunt in packs and this one seems by its lonesome. I don't sense any others like him so he must have strayed from the others.'

With a resounding nod to herself, Esther quietly moved between the trees and went to the one closest to the Beowulf.

'But this one doesn't look like the ones Ruby killed. It's a bit bigger and has more armor. Is it a variant?'

She let out a long sigh and resolved herself on what she would do.

A thought manifested a sword on her right arm. She aimed the blade high and at the Grimm's body. Esther hoped to kill the Grimm with one swoop but it always pays to have a backup plan upon backup plan.

'No plan survives first contact.' A famous saying from Earth resounds in her head.

Another thought made the blade as black as the night. Once again thanking the gift and technicality of the [Omega-1 Nanite].

"Steady... steady..." Without a warning of any kind, Esther pounced on the sleeping Beowulf and shot towards its exposed back.

*STAB!*

*AWOOOOO!*

As expected, that stab not only dealt good damage but also awoke the sleeping monster. The Grimm stood full of its height, reaching an average tree height, and thrashed about. Esther kept the blade lodged deep within its body as the thrashing made it rickety with each jerk.

"Just die already, you black beast!" Esther kept digging in deeper to puncture its heart or organs so that it died from bloodless but nothing was spurting out from the wound she inflicted and her foothold on the Grimm was getting worse.

"Graah!" With one final jerk, Esther was thrown off from the Grimm's back and landed on the clearing. She landed on her iron-soled feet and glared at the now-standing, awake, and angry Grimm before her. Red eyes glowed in the middle of the day and its claws protruded more, looking like miniature swords on each nail.

"Tch, stubborn bastard. You wanna do it the hard way, let's do this." Her blade was still attached to Esther. In the show, Rex's builds would only last for a few attacks before breaking into smaller parts.

Readying herself, Esther waited for the Grimm to make the first move. Rushing would no doubt get herself killed and she needed an advantage to win this fight.

'He's stronger, bulkier, and probably faster than me. I'm only 5 years old with some good skills and buffs. From its looks and the rule in the Animal Kingdom, bigger means more kills and experience and those claws aren't for show either. I'll have to avoid them and await my chance.'

The fight continued for a couple of minutes, with the Grimm playing as the cat in this mouse game. The only reason Esther survived this far was because of her small body and usage of Haki. She managed to get a few good hits in but was undeterred by the large Grimm.

The Beowulf then charged at her with reckless ambition, hoping to get a good score against the diminutive child. Esther, who saw this, dodged at the last second to the right as the bone claws barely missed her.

*Thunk!*

Esther dodged at the last minute to see the Grimm's claws lodged in the bark of a tree, providing a second of an opportunity for her. "Haa!" Her raised sword slashed at the side of the Grimm.

"Shing!*

Once again, no blood showed but a deep red gash mark did appear. The Grimm managed to remove its claws from the bark and took a swipe at the young blonde, who had no time to dodge to she blocked with her Haki-infused sword to take some damage instead.

[-30 Health!]

'Damn, that took more than I thought!' Esther thought as she was blown away from the swipe and landed nearby. The sword took the brunt of the damage and shattered into tiny pieces while her arm was slightly bleeding. 'If I didn't have my sword or Haki then I would have likely died in 1 or 2 more hits. This guy is tough, no doubt.'

Fortunately, the bleeding arm mended itself back together as all the cuts healed themselves in no time. Esther took out a [Meat Jerky] from the [Inventory] and started chewing. The food was already restoring her HP while the Beowulf narrowed its eyes.

After finishing up the remaining jerky, Esther had her arm become covered in machines again. The same sword appeared and Esther readied once more.

The Beowulf howled loudly at Esther and charged at her. Esther did the same, her sword arm held steady behind her back.

The two clashed in the middle, with Esther's sword breaking from the clash. The Grimm found this as an opportunity to strike and used its other claw to kill Esther but what the Grimm didn't know was that Esther planned this to happen.

The sword she created was only strong enough to momentarily stop the Grimm in its tracks and lower its defenses, allowing Esther to sneak in to deliver a fatal blow.

It was something Esther made when experimenting with her newfound powers of the [Omega-1 Nanite]. When she did, Esther wondered why Rex didn't do it in the first place as it helped in his daily fights with Evo's

Machines formed at her elbow to produce a piston that would extend to her fist. A gauntlet formed with a large spike in the middle as it connected with the piston and pulled back at full force. And to make it even more deadlier, Esther had the whole thing clad in Haki and crammed it in there as much as she could.

'Black Spike Impact!' Mustering all her strength, Esther punched at the chest cavity of the Grimm.

*BAM!*

The Grimm, who thought was winning, only felt pain as the gauntlet powered through against its thick hide. It was so powerful that it momentarily lifted the Grimm into the air.

"Not yet!" With one last push of strength, Esther released the piston to deliver another fatal blow as the spike with the force of a gun, plunged deep into the chest and out the other side.

The Grimm only felt pain and flew a bit higher, the force forcing it to fly a bit higher than the trees. Esther walked out of the way and let gravity do her work, the Grimm fell to its demise a moment after.

The Grimm, who rested peacefully, now lay dead in the hands of a 5-year-old child, who was heavily panting from her constant usage of MP in that fight.

Esther saw some wisps of black smoke coming from the Grimm and got ready for another round but saw that Beowulf was disappearing as well. "Is it done? Did I win?"

Just then, the pop-up appeared and showed Esther the completed mission.

Sudden Quest: [A Way Out] Completed!

[Failure: Death]

[You have Leveled Up! x1]

[Omega-1 Nanite] Leveled Up! x1

[Haki] Leveled Up! x1

[You have gained [Mini-Map]!]

[You have gained [Skill: Observe]!]

"YES!" Relief washed over Esther as she lay down on the grassy floor. All of her troubles and worries about her strength finally disappeared as she had completed her quest to fight against the Grimm of this world.

Esther simply rested, letting the adrenaline fuel dissipate for a while, and basked in the victory over her opponent.

The grind never fails.

________________________________________________________________________________

A few days passed by as Esther trekked along the forest's beaten path. After defeating the Beowulf, Esther wanted to immerse herself in society and figure out the timeline of the show.

The new feature, [Mini-Map], was really handy in navigating as it displayed like a compass for Esther to navigate. It even has a depth function when she went diving that one time to catch some fish.

But most important of all was the new skill [Observe].

[Skill: Observe] Level: MAX

[Observe: Data's Information]

[Know the numerical value of each object/person/item you laid your eyes on. Display the rarity, values, and level within your eyesight.]

[Activated: Fully displays all information of the target.]

[Note: Cannot display information of target 50 levels higher than the current users level.]

[Cost: None]

Now with this, she can accurately discover how strong or weak her target is and adjust strategies. If one is faster or stronger, smart or tougher, and all that. 'Perhaps it will also display their skills to me?'

As Esther kept walking, she tried to remember as much of the show as possible to know future enemies or allies. But all she got were tidbits from what her friends told of her in her past life.

'I remember at least the main characters, as well as their sister team. Umm, those two guys they hung out with and a drunk uncle? But most importantly, Ozpin. They wouldn't stop bitching about him being manipulative or cowardly or any other name that demotes him. Is he really like that in the show? Guess I'll know once I see him myself.'

A few more hours of trekking later, Esther's Haki picked up a flurry of emotions nearby. Having her Haki leveled up, Esther could accurately guess where it was coming from and what was going on.

'3 Negative beings are attacking a group of scared beings. The group is fighting back well but I can sense more coming near me, which is heading in their direction. If they come then the entire group will be wiped out.' Esther never really liked the role of a hero. There was no such thing as a pure soul. There must always be a balance between light and darkness to reach your full potential.

But it can pay to be nice once in a while.

'The reinforcements are only two, and they're a lot weaker than the one I faced before. I can take them and make sure they don't interrupt the group's fighting.' With a nod, Esther ran towards the Grimm and intersected them with a boot to the face.

One of the Grimm fell flat on the floor while the other looked bewildered for a moment. Esther didn't let up and jumped the other as well, imbuing her boot with Haki and watching the monster's head be decapitated instantly.

Esther landed on the ground and eyes the one she kicked before. It was struggling to get up from the force of her kick so Esther wanted to disrespect it further.

Grabbing a nearby pebble, she imbued Haki on her fingers like Izuku and shot the pebble straight at the Grimms' head.

*Thwack!*

'Bullseye.' The Grimm died with a rock stuck to its head.

With reinforcements dead, Esther ran towards where the group was still defending the Grimm and noticed one of them died. Getting closer to see with her eye, Esther watched from a distance as the battle unfolded.

2 of the 3 remaining Beowulf were attacking a group of 4 armored individuals while protecting a nearby van. They looked like they were struggling a bit and had injuries but nothing too hard.

Esther watched with a critical eye, pondering if she should interfere or not in the fight. From what she can gather, the group of armored individuals was doing pretty well against the Grimm.

One of them had a giant shield to block one of the Grimm's claws while the other shot at it with a long rifle. Another kept dodging the other Grimms' attack, getting some hits in while the last of the individuals stood protecting the van.

Just as the 3 hunters were winning, a slip-up happened in the form of an unstable ground. The Grimm took the chance and did a massive swipe against the distracted hunter.

The attack knocked the hunter to the ground as the Beowulf prepared to deal the finishing blow. Until...

*Bang!*

A shot rang out from the nearby forest and struck the Beowulf on the head, killing it easily. The Grimm fell to the ground, dead while the downed hunter grasped its breath.

___

(3rd POV)

He didn't know what happened. One minute, he was fighting the first Grimm he laid eyes upon and the next was about him being killed due to a mistake. If he had learned more about his awareness then he wouldn't make such a rookie mistake.

The Grimm towered above him, ready to strike him down without a moment's hesitation. The hunter had a brief flash of his life as the claw neared his head and promised to do better in the next life.

*Bang!*

That was when the damn beast fell to the ground after the ringing of a gunshot.

"Vance!" His best friend called out his name after finishing his fight with the Beowulf. "Vance, you alright?"

The hunter, Vance, calmly looked at his heavily armored friend and let out a sigh he'd been holding in. "I am. Give Melina my thanks for saving my ass."

"While I do like that thought," The one supporting Vance's best friend, Melina shook her head. "It wasn't me who made that shot. I was supporting Ivan all through the fight."

"What? You aren't joking, right?" Vance got up and grabbed his thrown weapons near him.

"N-no, Vance. She's right." The last one of the group, Helen, confirmed her friends' word. "Before I could help you, someone else shot the Beowulf before me. It looked like it came from the forest."

The group looked over to where Helen was looking and saw someone there.

Looking at them, with an orange rifle that seemingly came from their arm, was a young girl with shiny blonde hair cut to her shoulders and jet-black eyes. She wore rags of woven hides of the animals in the forest and metal boots.

The group stared at the girl as she made her way towards them. They didn't move and all saw how the rifle she was holding seemingly meld with her skin as if it were never there at all.

When she finally came close to them, the blonde-girl introduced herself. "Hello. My name is Esther. Esther Marie. Can you point me where the nearest town is?"

Phew, that was a long chapter. 3K words is no joke. Anyway, hope you like it.
