28. Purchasing Food and Clothes

Although Director Bernard wasn't sure what this strange thing called soap was, he was still curious about what Jason Liu had said about it.

As the manager of Winterfell, Bernard had to handle many servants and chores, especially in the laundry room, which had to be cleaned every day. There were always piles of clothes to wash. If this soap worked as well as Jason Liu claimed, it would be really helpful.

Director Bernard quickly asked his assistant to take the gift and thanked Jason Liu. He also offered to help Jason exchange his silver deer coins for golden dragons.

Jason Liu was happy that everything was going so smoothly.

The assistant counted the 1,000 silver deer several times. After confirming the amount, Director Bernard took out 10 golden dragons from his pouch and handed them to Jason Liu.

The exchange was now complete.

As they were saying goodbye, Director Bernard, who had taken a liking to the polite and noble Jason Liu, said, "Lord Jason, you're welcome to visit Winterfell again. If Lord Eddard Stark hears that a noble young man from the Far East has come to visit, he will surely be happy to meet you."

"Of course, I will," Jason Liu replied with a smile. "Once I'm fully prepared, I'll personally visit the honorable Stark family."

Jason knew he had to make this visit someday. After all, he was doing business in their territory, and building good relationships with the local powerful families was important for any businessman.

However, right now, his business was still small, and the Starks, who were the most powerful family in the North, wouldn't notice him yet. Instead of rushing to meet them now, Jason planned to wait until his business grew bigger. That way, when he did visit Winterfell, he would be taken more seriously.

By doing this, Jason could present himself as a 'big noble,' which was important for gaining respect and status in Westeros.

He knew that people judged you by the way you appeared. Just like in modern society, where people guessed your wealth from your car, clothes, and watch, it worked the same way here.

After taking one more look at the grand Winterfell, Jason Liu said goodbye to Martha and returned to his store.

Martha went back to Winterfell with her daughter to take care of young Master Rickon Stark.

When Jason walked into his store, he saw that his only employee, Lena, was busy selling soap and paper to a customer, with sweat on her face.

It looked like another merchant had come to buy goods while Jason was away.

Most customers at Jason's shop were traveling merchants from different parts of Westeros since his products were too expensive for ordinary townspeople and farmers.

After helping Lena with the last customer, she happily told Jason that she had just sold over 100 bars of soap and more than 300 sheets of paper.

Seeing the silver deer and bronze stars (coins) in the money box, Jason praised Lena for doing a great job.

"My lord, did you exchange the silver deer for golden dragons at Winterfell?" Lena asked as she wiped the wooden counter.

"Yes, I did," Jason replied, "but not with Maester Luwin. I exchanged them with Director Bernard." As he walked upstairs, he added, "Lena, take care of the store for a while. I'm going to rest, so don't disturb me."

Lena watched as Jason hurriedly went to his room. She was a bit puzzled but responded, "Yes, my lord, don't worry. I'll manage the store."

Jason Liu returned to his room, closed the door, and teleported back to his villa. He checked his phone and saw that his order would arrive in Zheng City that afternoon. There was no rush, so he decided to relax.

After washing his face, Jason left the villa and took a taxi to the nearby shopping mall. There, he bought new bedding for Lena and Martha, along with some women's clothes.

In Jason's eyes, the linen clothes that Lena and Martha wore were too plain. As their employer, he thought it was only right to provide them with proper work clothes. Since he didn't know much about women's clothing, he just described Lena and Martha's height and build to the store clerk, who picked out outfits for him.

Jason left with bags of black cotton coats, thermal wear, blue jeans, leather boots, socks, underwear, and more.

He also bought clothes for Martha's children, Michal and her young daughter, based on their descriptions.

After buying everything, he couldn't carry it all himself, so he arranged for the mall to deliver it to his home. This allowed him to continue shopping.

At the supermarket, Jason bought a large quantity of supplies: 10 bags of flour, olive oil, salt, spices, pork, chicken, fruit, instant noodles, ham, stainless steel bowls, chopsticks, soap, shampoo, and more.

A van from the mall helped deliver everything to his villa, and the driver helped him unload it all, though he looked a bit surprised by the amount Jason had bought.

Jason didn't care what the driver thought. He teleported all the items to his room in Westeros.

He had bought so much because he was planning to make some big moves there. If he wanted to expand his business, he needed more people to help him. He couldn't rely on just himself and Lena.

He also needed to hire some security guards since his successful business might attract unwanted attention from mercenaries, thieves, and bandits in the area.

In a place like Westeros, filled with both simple farmers and dangerous people, Jason knew he needed to be careful.
