Rule Number 01

June 18, 2020.

No one has ever seen him up close and lived to tell the tale.

Some say he's as ugly as a monster, some say that people die if they look into his eyes.

Some say he's a magician whose job is to bewitch.

I'll find out when I meet him.

I'll live to tell the tale.

I will kill him.

Haven let herself smile slightly as she once again looked toward Gavin, internally screaming for help inside her head.

'Okay, this backfired hard.'

While she and Gavin were planning this a day ago, not once had it crossed her mind that she would meet that same grey-eyed mesmerizing bastard again.

She knew that the top members of Wei's circle wore black, intricate eye masks to conceal their identity but never had she expected him to send one of his main men just to steal her diary!

Not knowing that the man before her was Ezekiel Wei himself, she allowed herself to show through the many layers she had to wear to come here.

Gavin, who was her supposedly fake boyfriend, had come here to publicly be discovered cheating. Relatively easy considering the fact that they had sent a specific seducer after him since he regularly visited the club to keep a check on its activities.

Haven's job was to simply cause a scene, gain the attention of one of the top members, and then the main highlight of the show would commence forth.

Gaining the attention of a top member instantly... had not been part of the plan.

A few days were still left for the test she needed to take in order to become part of her previous department. But being patient had never been one of her virtues. She already had a few of those, to begin with.

Gavin working as a part-time police officer came in use since it would be easier to help hide this from CIA if suspicion does arise. Even if the agency did find out, they could always say that they went there for a drink or two to meet up and discuss future plans.

Most of the world wasn't even aware that this club belonged to the notorious Ezekiel Wei. His additional attribute 'Joker' had gone quite famous under the name of this nightclub.

The plan seemed fault-proof since Gavin had also been a favorite— 'entertaining enemy'— of this grey-eyed man's Boss. Now the only step left was to make eye contact with Gavin and launch the ball on his side of the court.

As she tried her best to glare furiously at her best friend, she could feel the eyes of someone else fixated on her face. Instead of making her uncomfortable, they made her throat go completely dry. Drinking alcohol had not been the smartest move to start this off.

After what felt like centuries, Gavin finally glanced at her and dropped the glass he was holding as his eyes widened simultaneously. Haven silently applauded him on his acting skills but out of nowhere, she heard a small chuckle.

Gasping softly for air she glanced at Zei who looked up at the same exact moment, holding the whole universe within his eyes, planets, cosmos, stars, and all.

"I've never seen him look like that," he commented and Haven internally slapped herself, reminding herself to focus and not get tricked by his baits.

"Trust me, you haven't seen anything yet." she let herself smile as she didn't risk looking into his orbs again, fearing that she would let herself fall into an abyss that wouldn't have any way of escape.

Getting up, she walked toward the lounge where Gavin was currently seated, still feeling Zei's presence behind her as she neared her destination.

"Ave, it isn't what it looks like—"

'What a cliché line to use, you idiot.'

"So this," she rested her eyes on the girl who had now stood up as well. "This is the important work that kept distracting you the whole week?"

"Who the fuck do you think you are?" the girl asked, her sharp voice unknowingly irritating Haven down to the core. Her fingers itched to land a fist in her face but she resisted for a minute.

She needed to wait for the perfect moment first.

"Better shut her mouth before I rip it open into pieces." she addressed Gavin who was looking away while glaring at Zei at the same time.

He grabbed the girl's arm probably to steer her away from causing more chaos but the girl shook his grip off and folded her arms, looking Haven up and down as something clicked inside her head.

"So that's her?" Selena pointed a blood-red nail in her direction. "That's the bitch who got you bored—"

Haven bent down swiftly, sweeping Selena's legs out from under her with a lightning-quick low kick. She yelped while everybody else in the club who had gathered around to watch the commotion backed a step away.

Haven didn't feel the masked man backing away.

The girl struggled to get back to her feet and looked at Gavin who was being held by two of the many burly guards situated around. He could free himself but he'd already done his part of the play. All the spectators could do now was watch.

Selena flew at her with a tight fist ready to launch at her face. Blocking the punch, Haven grabbed her arm and twisted it upward making another scream fill the air of the club.

"Aven stop!" Gavin yelled from somewhere but Haven ignored him, the loud cheers of the crowd prompting her to beat the shit out of the girl further on. The anger she had been holding back all these days, came bursting out of her like a bomb waiting to blow everyone up into pieces.

The girl, who had fallen to the ground, continued her futile attempts to stand up and continue fighting.

Haven sighed. "Anyone else who wants to get beaten up? Please be a little stronger than this bitch over here."

Turning around, she faced her partner, trying to gather as much pain and hurt as she could into her eyes. Faking emotions was simply a piece of cake, she wasn't transparent; from the beginning, she'd made sure that there would be no opening for anyone to peek through and take advantage of her again.

Her eyes unconsciously shifted to Zei, who stood there with his hands in his pockets, staring at her without blinking.

He cocked his head to the side and smirked. "Rule number 1: Never turn your back on your opponent."
