Dynasty

December 27, 2018.

They say: 'Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.'

That's quite difficult to do when I haven't even seen my enemies face up close all these years!

Perhaps he is as ugly as they depict him to be.

Well, why do I care? Even if he is a little good-looking, it would only be a loss of one handsome face to the world when I get rid of him forever.

I will kill him.

I promise.

Haven frowned, parting her lips to ask what he meant when she felt her arm being pulled backward harshly. Before she could comprehend what was happening she found herself lying on the cold floor of the club with a stinging pain at the back of her head.

She hated it when people attacked her from behind. Nothing short of cowardly behavior, she scowled inside her head.

Selena, who had now pinned her legs with the whole force of her body wasted no time in aiming straight where it hurt the most.

Her face.

Perhaps it was because she had drunk a glass or two of wine earlier that the slap aimed at her cheek didn't cause as much pain as it was originally intended.

A haughty sneer decorated the girl's face.

"'A little stronger than this bitch?'" she quoted her previously spoken words. "You don't even know what this bitch is capable of! Regret saying that now? No wonder he left you for me!" it didn't take many brains for a person to figure out who she was addressing at this point.

"Girls like you are intentionally left alone after fulfilling their purpose. Nothing in you is capable of attracting anyone, nothing! Hah! Maybe because you take after your disgusting wh*re of a mother!"

Until now, the whole club had subdued into utter pin-drop silence. An eerie quiet descended upon the room, as if the air itself held its breath, waiting for the impending storm. Selena didn't seem to have noticed that and therefore continued her previous ramblings, unaware of the ticking bomb she had set off right beneath her.

The smile which had taken over Haven's face fell into a calm mask when her mother got mentioned. Her expression shifted, like a theater curtain falling, concealing her emotions behind an emotionless façade.

Ezekiel, who was beginning to signal some of his men to get Selena off of her, made them pause with a quick sign of his hand. Even though Selena worked under him as a subordinate, he internally shook his head in disappointment toward her.

Provoke a hungry lion? You get eaten.

A cat always looked cute and friendly from afar, until people found out it also came with claws.

Flipping Selena over was a piece of whipped cream for Haven after all the training she had been through as a child. Being trained in the mafia was not so different from being trained as a secret agent. Nobody's cries and sobs of pain were tolerated and were quickly put an end to. Nobody was anyone's friend or companion. Trusting someone meant you willingly placed your head under a guillotine.

If you got betrayed, then the blade was brought down upon your neck.

In the world she lived, being a girl only meant one thing: The dire need to keep proving herself.

It took one mistake to lose the entire dynasty she had been trying to build all these years of her life.

Selena's soul almost evaporated from her body at witnessing the maniacal bloodlust Haven's dull auburn eyes now held. She had dug her own grave, now it was her turn to peacefully lie in it.

Even in the Underworld, provoking people who you couldn't handle meant only one thing.

Death.

Painful, excruciating death.

As soon as Haven's fist connected with her face, it seemed as if nothing would be strong enough to make her stop. To an onlooker's eye, Selena was nothing but a boxing bag that she was using for practice.

Punch after punch, she continued her relentless assault, not noticing how the spectators had once again started to cheer for her and blasted music from each and every one of the speakers situated around the club.

"Make her stop or she'll fucking kill her," Gavin yelled over the loud cheers, his voice barely audible over the hoots and claps of the audience.

Ezekiel turned toward him, a brow raised in surprise. "She's that dangerous huh?" he questioned, once again gazing at her and feeling as if it was impossible to take his eyes off of her.

She was a tempestuous force, a swirling vortex of untamed energy, poised to unleash havoc upon anything unfortunate enough to cross her path, indifferent to the collateral damage she left in her wake. It was a terrifying spectacle, a maelstrom of chaos and destruction, yet it held an inexplicable allure for him, captivating his very being with an intoxicating mix of desire and fascination.

The unpredictability of her actions, the sheer audacity with which she defied convention and shattered expectations, sent shivers down his spine, igniting a fire of excitement deep within his soul. It was as if the tempest within her mirrored the tumultuous desires he harbored within himself, a shared affinity for the uncharted, the wild, and the unyielding. In her presence, he felt an electric surge, a surge that ignited his own dormant passions, propelling him to venture into uncharted territories, embracing the chaos and uncertainty that awaited.

She was dangerous, and no matter how many warning alerts his mind passed onto him, he couldn't help but want to get closer to her fire.

God help him because getting burned had never seemed so sinful and tempting as now.

Selena's face was now nothing more than a bloody, disfigured mess. Nothing short of nose surgery or maybe a full face surgery could bring her face back to what it once was.

[Looks like she knows a thing or two about art herself.]

Having a dying subordinate on his hands was not what he wanted right now. The crowd parted on its own as he slowly approached Haven from behind and stretched his hand forward to grab her arm.

Haven sensed a touch on her arm and on instinct, pushed her hand back to hit whatever was trying to stop her from beating the life out of this disgusting piece of slimy shit. However, the sudden silence she was greeted with made her pause her fists and turn her head around to see the cause of the abrupt hush.

Her lips parted in horror when she realized who she had just slapped with the full force of her hand. His head was down, his hair falling over and hiding his face making it impossible to decipher his current expression.

"Ezekiel!" a tall guy shouted, adorning the same dark mask over his eyes and Haven could almost feel her heart dropping and landing beside her feet with a loud 'thud!'.

The man named Zei raised his head slowly, his piercing gaze locking onto Haven's eyes, and as she met his intense stare, a chilling sensation crept through her veins. When he looked up at her, she could feel it.

He was simply... scary.
