Chapter 41 - Dandadan

Dandadan is a famous Horror/Supernatural/Shounen manga released in 2021., written by the mangaka going by the name of Yukinobu Tatsu.

There are currently eight released volumes of the said manga, with 67 chapters out. And this is manga chosen by Nexus Animation to be their next project.

As you can see, this is an ongoing manga and a story that has a lot of popularity, so it is a completely different case than their first project.

It is also a big jump from their last work, as this is a story popular enough to have a lot of suitors, so it is going to be difficult for Nexus Animation to buy the rights to animate it.

With that said, Kira understands that they need to be ambitious and they need aim high, as it is almost guaranteed that if done right animating this manga is going to end up well for them.

Still, the question stands, will they be able to secure the rights?

Now, as for the details of the Dandadan. I did write that it is a horror story but it is not the type of story like the manga Junji Ito writes or a typical horror. It really isn't that scary, as it also has a lot of comedy elements and even though it has monsters, weird scenes and some characters are just disgusting, this manga screams more comedy than horror.

Now, the story follows two characters, Momo Ayase and Okarun. The first one believes in ghosts, and doesn't in aliens, while the latter is on a completely different spectrum. So, in some weird fates, they become acquainted and try to prove to each other that they are in the right and like that they witness a lot of weird and different situations.

This manga is weird, that was also the feeling that Kira got when he first started reading it. This manga he actually read before that meeting and he put it as a maybe, when it comes to future projects. If you wanna find out why is it weird, just read the first couple of chapters and you will see some, let's just say interesting characters, from the weird-looking aliens to the granny ghost.

Kira was ready to contact the publisher of Dandadan. This time he hoped they would know about the studio without him explaining too much. After all, they did make some noise in the last anime season, loud enough for people to notice them.

He decided that he was going to make a call, instead of just writing an e-mail, explaining why choosing them is the right call is easier to do while talking.

So, he made a call.

The ringing lasted for only a minute before he heard a sweet woman's voice. Our boy introduced himself and the lady forwarded the call to one of their chief editors.

"Hello, yes, yes, this is Kira Rowe, the CEO of Nexus Animation."

The voice from the other side had a dignified ring to it, it seemed like an older man with a lot of experience. Kira in a respectful way introduced himself.

"Yes, Nexus Animation is interested in animating your manga, Dandadan, I wonder if you are open to discussing that project."

Unfortunately, he didn't hear the good news, actually, it couldn't get more depressing for him and the studio.

"You already are preparing to animate it, aha so you formed a Committee already…"

If you remember in one of the earlier chapters it was mentioned that a lot of anime are made after forming a Committee, with anime studios not owning an IP and just having a job to animate it, while the biggest part of the cake would go to the company that invests the most.

This was disappointing news, though it wasn't something Kira didn't expect, as Dandadan is famous and has already eight volumes out, this manga is ready to get animated. Are they that late?

"I see, thank you for taking your time to talk to me, I hope we will get a chance to cooperate in the future…"

With that sentence, Kira put his phone on the table and he deeply sighed, while being deep in his thoughts and lightly tapping the table with his finger.

Seeing his boss like that, Toma Yuu in a low voice asked – "Will we give up on this project?"

That was a necessary thing to ask, even though this could be a big breakout for them, if this story already has a chosen suitor, there was no reason as to why they should linger too much around it.

With that said, Kira Rowe is Kira Rowe, a stubborn British who didn't come this far by lifting the white flag the moment things get tricky.

"Tell me, my director, don't think about whether is it possible or not, do you want to turn this story into anime?"

The eyes of the seasoned scriptwriter shone, the answer was already obvious, but he still answered his boss – "Yes I do".

Kira just smiled and then said with a determined look on his face.

"Then it is my job as your boss to do whatever is necessary to let your talent shine, this manga is great, maybe even too good to be our second project, but if you want to succeed in life, if you aren't ambitious then you won't accomplish anything."

After hyping himself up, and his employee, Kira started to think about his next step, when in the middle of that his phone rang.

The name on the screen said John Smiley. Seeing that Kira couldn't help but sigh again, though in his heart he hoped that for once talking with this mischievous guy wouldn't be that bad.

"Hello."

"Yoo, my dear friend, I will be brief this time, we got the rights…"

It took some time but finally, OnlyAnime managed to secure the rights to a story they wanted to turn into anime.
