Chapter 1 : First time

Sidhe was a street urchin, a cat people, he lived on the trash and the donations of kind folk. He was caught between a fight of two gangs and ended up gravely injured.

As he was bleeding on the street, a beautiful man with dark blue hair approached him, and gave him a potion. Sidhe wanted to take the potion, but his strength gave in. He felt how he was dying.

The man opened Sidhe's mouth and poured the potion. The beautiful man took the injured kid with him.

The man was Miach, in his kindess he took Sidhe to live with him and with his familia.

Yet, misfortune followed Miach, Sidhe watched as the family reached their peak, then fallen steeply. Naaza lost her arm, in his desperation, Miach took a loan of one-hundred million Valis to buy a prosthetic arm for Naaza. This happened just one month before Sidhe was fifteen.

Most of the familia members left it, only Sidhe remained and Naaza who was scared for life. Freezing at even the mention of monsters. The captain of Miach familia was now a cripple.

Sidhe was now fifteen, he was entertaining the thoughts of becoming an adventurer, he wanted to repay Miach as he was walking on Orario's streets he heard people talking about the killing of Astraea familia, the de facto police of Orario. He felt a tinge of sadness; it was expected that they were going to be killed. They meddled too much in the dark side of the city.

He looked at a Hephaestus shop, he entered and looked at prices. The cheapest weapon was 3000 vali. Not something he can gather easily. Maybe there remained weapons at the familia house.

The base of Miach familia was a simple house, they had in the past a bigger one, they needed to sell it to pay a tiny part of the debt. Not that it was of any use. Just more expenses.

Naaza was a girl of medium height, with long brown hair that had a sandy nuance, dog ears, purple eyes and a tail. She was preparing her potions when Sidhe entered the house.

He glanced at her and asked, "Where is Lord Miach?"

Naaza said coldly, "Working."

Sidhe shrugged and entered the armory of the house, there he saw Naaza's bow, her second most precious object, after the arm. He saw empty spaces where there should have been weapons. Except for a sword with rust marks, it was simple double-edged sword, with a round pommel and tiny hilt. He put in his dark brown robe, a robe similar to that of Miach.

He had brown hair, a bit darker to that of Naaza and violet eyes, a nuance lighter to that of Naaza. If not for the difference in species you would thought that they were sister and brother. Though he was shorter than her, with a head shorter.

He left for Babel tower. He selected a good time to go, as most of adventurers were hunting down, he entered the first floor, and chose a random receptionist. The girl was somehow smaller than him.

He with a bit of effort hold the laughter of seeing her putting books on her chair to meet his eyes. She pouted, and said, "My name is Misha Flott, I am a receptionist of the Guild, do you need something?"

He let the amusement go, and said, in a serious tone, "Yes. I want to register as an adventurer."

She nodded, and took a document and a pen, asking, "Do you know how to write?"

"Yes."

She then continued, "What familia you are part of?"

"Miach familia."

She looked at him with pity. Sidhe disliked that look, pity was worthless.

She typed on the document, then asked, "What's your name?"

"Sidhe."

Then she asked personal data, like his age, height, and other similar stuff.

The last thing he did was sign the document, where he was fully responsible for his actions, and that the Guild in no way will pay in the case of his death, and in fine print, his receptionist will be the only person he was allowed to sell magic crystals.

He was surprised that the receptionist didn't ask for confirmation that he was part of Miach familia, maybe they had a way to know this stuff?

He arrived at the entrance, the hole that leads deep in. He walked slowly the stairs to the first floor. His hands were shaking on the sword, he was holding it as tight as he could, it was the only weapon he had and if he made any mistakes down there. He will be eaten by those monsters. Some people were going up, it was Loki familia, with Ais Wallenstein.

He passed by, entering the first floor. It had light blue walls, growling reverberated through the caves, scrapping sounds, and bat screeches were heard.

His heart was beating fast, his hands were sweaty, he didn't even seen a monster, yet he was already a scaredy cat. He entered the largest hall, knowing to be the newbie's hall, a place for people like him to train.

He heard battle sounds in the distance, the stone was made from a strange material, it shone light, though he didn't need it, his eyes saw perfectly in the dark. From the walls a goblin formed.

A ugly green being, with small stature, holding a jagged knife, clothed in hides in a mockery of armour. It attacked, jumping for Sidhe's throat.

Sidhe stepped back, evading the attack, his breath was rapid. He steeled his nerves and slashed with his sword, the goblin parried, then thrust with its knife.

Sidhe blocked, another attack was coming for his hand, he sidestepped it.

They exchanged blows, vicious attacks, underhanded swings and treacherous thrusts. Only by his dexterity and cat's luck he could evade them.

Both of them were heavy breathing.

The goblin's eyes were as red as the fire, veins were visible, he wanted to break limb by limb the poor Sidhe.

Sidhe saw an opening, the goblin was tired, he didn't swung too hard, Sidhe arched his back, evading the attack, then with a swift attack he cut the goblin's hand.

The goblin let a heart-wrenching cry, and in a fit of rage jumped on Sidhe, it wanted to bite his throat. Sidhe hit the ground with the goblin on him, as the goblin was ready to bite, Sidhe plunged his sword in the beast's stomach, killing it.

He sat on the ground breathing. He looked at the goblin, ugly as a sin, he thrown from his body, then took his sword, with its blunt edge, if he have gone a bit deeper in the dungeon, this blunt edge would have been his killer. He made all possible to record in his mind to get a whetstone and to sharpen the blade.

He inserted the sword in the location where the crystal was, he opened the place and took it. The body and blood became dust, leaving nothing behind to show that here were a battle.

He smiled, one magic crystal from a goblin cost around one hundred valis, if he would kill one… million of goblins, yeah right. It was a pipe dream to get rid of the debt only by killing goblins. He would need to go deeper; not now, he didn't have a death wish. Or did he? Becoming an adventurer was in a sense signing your death.

A pity that he didn't have a pocket watch, he could calculate the amount of time it took to kill a goblin, then when he would have gotten a bigger amount data to get a median on how much goblins he could kill a day. Well it was a good idea, he should get one when he would have more money.

For the moment, it was time to make money.

After four goblins he was exhausted, and he didn't have any place to put those crystals in, because of course, in his wisdom he didn't get a bag. He was woefully under prepared for this.

If Lord Miach hears this… He would get a scolding and maybe more, when he stole last time Lord Miach was very saddened by that action.

He sold the crystals to his receptionist and got five hundred and twenty valis, it seems a crystal was bigger than the average found in goblins. Happy to have made his first hard worked money he entered the house.

His tail was swishing, it happens when he was happy, in a joyful mood or feeling secure, he smelled a sweet, medicinal smell, it was Lord Miach smell. He saw him with his eyes full of worry that disappeared when he saw Sidhe. Then came back when he saw the sword.

"Sidhe, you have no idea how worried I was! You should have at least said to Naaza where you are going." He narrowed his eyes, looking angry? Sidhe wasn't sure, he never saw Lord Miach angry.

Miach continued, "You have been to the dungeon, right?"

Sidhe's ears flopped down, his tail was low, he looked at the ground, saying, "Yes. But I have made money, 520 valis," showing them to Miach.

Miach softened his face, saying, "My dear Sidhe, you are young, only fifteen summers old. Dungeon is a dangerous place, you can easily die or became heavily injured. Do you forgot what made us burdened by debt?"

Sidhe was on the verge of crying, he respected Lord Miach very much; he can't step down, this was the only way they could get out of debt, "Lord Miach, I know how to fight, I killed five goblins, and if you bless me to get falna I will get more powerful and gather even more money!"

Lord Miach sighed, looking at the Sidhe's range of emotions, he in the end agreed to do, "Come to my room."

He entered Lord Miach's room, it was simple with only one bed, Miach pointed at the bed.

Sidhe laid on it, with his back upwards. Lord Miach took a needle and took a drop of blood from his finger. He let the blood drip on Sidhe's back.

Hieroglyphs appeared on his back, this was the language of gods.

Sidhe reached for his clothes and dressed back, while Miach took a piece of paper and wrote what he read.

Lord Miach said, as Sidhe was going to leave the room, "My dear Sidhe, take care in the dungeon. I don't want you to become injured, or worse. To die. Give me your sword, I will give it back tomorrow in the morning. One more thing, keep a cool head, never let your emotions take the reins. I saw that you left with no supplies down there, you never know what can happen in the dungeon, it is always good to be prepared."

Sidhe was wagging with his tail, he felt peaceful when he was in Miach's presence. He said, "I will leave to the familia 70% of my gains. It's the same rate as Naaza's one. I will not accept refuses."

Miach took Sidhe's hand, looked in his eyes, and said, "You have grown so much from the first time I saw you—" he took a medallion with the familia's emblem and gave it to Sidhe, saying, "In the past, when the familia was big, we had these kind of emblems for every adventurer. Now you are one too. Take care of it."

Sidhe gave his sword to Lord Miach and left for his room. Yet when he was going to open the door to his room, Naaza stopped him and said, "Come to the kitchen. We need to talk."

The story is set five years before Bell arrives in Orario. There will be no romance. Sidhe is too worried about money to care about romance and girls.
