Dragon Tears

Secrets. We all keep them. Some tend to protect us from harm. Others tend to lead us to it. While Kayda’s secret is one that haunts her. Kayda isn’t human. She never was. All her life, she knew that. The words thrown at her and the fear filled gazes that watched her showed just how much of a monster she was. But she isn’t what those people think she is either. She’s kept her fair amount of secrets hidden. And she intended to keep them, until her barriers we torn down. Kayda has already had her lifetimes worth of pain and misery along with those secrets she keeps. She spent so long fighting, so long trying to survive, that one day, she finally snapped. Her sanity was shredded by the creatures called humans. She was torn down piece by piece to be used as entertainment slowly corroding away what once was her mind. Only to be built back up again to repeat the gruesome process. So she finally gave up. Now, she is nothing but a beast. At least, that’s what she portrays to be. And she would have continued to play her part as the feral pet, but what happens when Dimitri appears? A cold and calculative man, who appeared in what she thought would be her last moments. A man who seemed to have even more secrets then even her, but was still able to show a side of himself that even she had lost. He was ruthless, cold blooded, calculative, and even, warm? So what happens when he’s out on a mission and meets a creature he quickly wants to dismiss? A creature that he had no interest in until he met her eyes. How exactly is Dimitri going to carefully piece Kayda back together again? And how is Kayda going to react to the unfamiliar kindness shown by a stranger? What’s his motive? ———————- “So, your saying, that because you saved me from death, I’m now in your debt?” Kayda was intrigued but at the same time annoyed, seeing the charming tilt in Dimitri’s lips. And as she stared, Dimitri reveled in her gaze. “You could say that.” His mischievous voice didn’t go unnoticed and Kayda felt a slight twitch at the corner of her lip. With a glow in her eyes, she walked up to Dimitri who was staring her down. “I’ll repay a favor. But I’ll never be in your debt.” Slamming a hand down, she growled. “The Goddess wanted me dead for a reason. You’re lucky I don’t show you why.” Dimitri grinned with amusement when suddenly, his hand snaked its way around her waist. “Even the Goddess can’t take you away from me.” He whispered. ————————————- ‘The cover was not made, and is not owned by me. : Examination Results

Kayda clenched her fists in pain and held her breath. Her hands turned white and her eyes squinted, holding in a gasp of surprise.

But with Dr. Myers' attentive eyes, she was able to easily pick up on the intimation that Kayda showed. She gently set Kayda's leg down and jotted something down in a black notebook she had taken out earlier.

"I'm going to check your lungs and then I'll start asking some questions. Please bear it a little while longer."

Kayda replied with her silence as her heedful eyes followed every one of Dr. Myer's movements and variations. When she came back with a device from her black leather bag, she laid still on the bed as her eyes followed her cautiously with tense muscles.

With familiar movements, Dr. Myer proceeded with the examination, pressing on a few points that would sometimes make Kayda clench her teeth in pain. When she was done, she signaled for Kayda to get dressed as she packed up and once again placed herself upon the cushioned couch in the room.

"Keep in mind, each one of these questions are essential for an evaluation of your health. Please answer honestly." Dr. Myer had her pencil ready, looking at Kayda dully.

Kayda sat across from her after she had placed her clothes back onto her body. She nodded, her only indication to continue.

Looking down, she asked a string of questions in which Kayda replied with curt responses.

Placing her pencil down, Dr. Myer looked directly into Kayda's eyes. "When was your last menstruation?" She said.

Kayda stalled for a second. Her head tilted in confusion. "Menstruation?" She repeated the word. It's alien pronunciation was unfamiliar to her.

"Your period." Dr. Myer concisely replied.

Kayda could feel a bit of blood flow to her cheeks in embarrassment. But her neutral face easily hid it. She knew what it was but shook her head.

"I've never had it."

Jotting it down in her little black book, she closed it with a single hand and eloquently placed it back into her black bag while placing her pencil in a pocket on the inside of her suit.

"I'm going to be frank with you, Miss Kayda. You are suffering from severe malnutrition, have three incorrectly set bones, several clashing toxins within your body, scarred muscle tissue, nerve damage, stunted growth and scar tissue lining some of your internal organs." She paused briefly, and that was the only single moment that Kayda had caught a glimpse of a personal emotion crossing her eyes.

But it passed by too fast for her to even decipher what it was. "I'll prescribe some medication for you to take to help aid in your recovery. You'll be seeing me more often as I will also guid you along in your physical rehabilitation as well."

Taking her bag in one hand, she stood from her spot, brushing off some dust from her clothes before making her way to the door. "I'll excuse myself then, have a good afternoon." And she left without leaving any space for Kayda to respond.

Of course she knew that over the years she had gained many injuries. Some stayed with her as scars in the form of pain. But it never crossed her mind that she could be so damaged.

She sat still for a moment, absorbing Dr. Myer's words. Taking in a breath, she calmed her unsteady heart as she made her way back over to the window to watch the birds.

But she could no longer focus on what was going on beyond that transparent piece of glass.

In Dimitri's office, there was a loud bang. Papers had scattered across the floor in disarray as a bag was sent flying onto his large desk, completely disrupting Dimitri who had a pen in his hand.

With unflinching eyes, Dimitri turned up his gaze to meet Dr. Myer's enraged stare as she seethed. "Are you done with the examination, Dr. Myer?"

Dr. Myer fumed at his cold and commanding words that held not an ounce of emotion but could easily freeze over a pond if he so wished so.

"Done with my examination, you say? What in the world did you make me examine just now? That young girl is in no position to be even walking around her room in such a state and you called me here to check her health? Even Clouse, that dim witted fool, could see that she is unwell and you still drew so much blood from her body!? I'm surprised you've kept her alive for even three days!" She roared in a voice that burned with furry.

Dimitri wasn't shaken by her burning furry and rage. He narrowed his eyes as the room's temperature slowly started to drop. But Dr. Myer instantly knew what he was doing and it only served to feed the fires of her burning anger at this moment.

Raising her fist, she prepared to berate him in another flurry of words before he cut her off.

"What was the result of her examination?" This time, his voice was lined with a thin string of impatience that calmed down Dr. Myer somewhat, but she could still feel the furry burning away fiercely in her chest.

Taking in a breath, her eyes became more serious. "She's malnourished to the point that a spring breeze would blow her away. She has three bones that were broken or fractured that weren't set correctly causing the muscle and nerves to be permanently inflated over the course of time. Several scars that were not treated causing the scarring of muscle and nerve tissue as well as internal scarring from old wounds. If that wasn't enough, she has a broken rib and a bruised rib cage from a recent injury that seems to be six days old along with multiple penetration wounds concentrated on her left shoulder." She took a breath, combing a few loose strands of hair out of her face before continuing.

"If that's not bad enough, her mental health is suffering just as much. Her actions and verbal statements suggest she is suffering from PTSD, adjustment disorder, RAD, haphephobia and depression." Dr. Myer took in a breath. "Which is a long line of mental disorders that are arduous to take care of."

Glancing at Dimitri, Dr. Myer sneered under her breath. "Somewhat like your fastidious self."

Seeing Dimitri's eyes dim a few shades, she coughed slightly while covering up her words skillfully. "It's incredible seeing so much tolerance in such a small girl. I've seen grown men crying with similar wounds. But she didn't even whimper."

Her words made Dimitri fall silent in concentration. Soon after, he called for butler Stevens.

"Yes my lord?" He said as he answered his lords summonings.

Dimiri waved his hand dismissively in Dr. Myer's direction. "Take the list of medicine from Dr. Myer and have the medication sent to Kayda. That's all."

Butler Stevens nodded. Then he went over to grab the list from Dr. Myer before she remembered something dew to her head finally cooling down.

"Ah, Stevens. How much has she eaten lately?"

Butler Stevens turned to look at her right before he opened the door. "Pardon?"

"How balanced is her diet? How much meat and greens does she consume on a regular basis. I'm asking you as I've heard the young miss had taken quite a liking to Kayda."

Butler Stevens nodded as he finally understood before he said, "I have not seen her eat any meat or protein based foods as she mainly consumed vegetables or fruits. The young Miss has found a new hobby of introducing new fruits to her every meal time."

Dr. Myer nodded. "Thank you Stevens."

With that, butler Stevens exited the room leaving Dr. Myer to fall into a fuming silence and Dimitri with a headache wondering what it was now that she was fuming about.
