Outside the house looking through a window, Roshi watched his granddaughter Mimi doing some strange exercises.
'Is Mimi...exercising?' He thought in amazement.
Roshi had come back early because his TV show would start earlier than expected that day, but he would never have expected to see his granddaughter do weight training exercises, after all, he never taught her that kind of thing.
With just one look, he already knows what she's doing.
'I see, as she has very little strength, she is using the force of gravity to exercise her muscles, to think my granddaughter is so smart to use this method without being taught!' Roshi thought with proud of his granddaughter.
Excited at the idea of his granddaughter being as great a genius as he is in martial arts, he goes to the door of his house, but stops when he's going to grab the knob.
His hand stops a few inches from the door handle and he starts to shake.
''Is that.....really a good idea?'' He said bitterly.
Memories invade Roshi's mind in that moment, and the memory of his bruised and bloody daughter asking him to take care of Mimi came like thunder, causing him to falter.
He knew that Mina, his daughter, and Kaoshi, his son-in-law, wanted Mimi to have a normal life in society.
His daughter was never really interested in Martial Arts, and he never forced her to train, like an old man he is, he just had let her do what she wanted.
But in the end, his daughter and son-in-law ended up dead at the hands of robbers.
'If only I had taught them to defend themselves....' It was Roshi's thought in the time when he held his dead daughter in his arms.
Roshi shakes his head to get rid of such bad memories, and is faced with an internal conflict.
On the one hand, he wants to teach his granddaughter so she can defend herself and also to see how far she will get, but on the other hand, he has his daughter and son-in-law's wish for their daughter to have a normal life.
With a heavy sigh, Roshi makes up his mind.
'It's no use for me to be in conflict. It's Mimi who needs to decide, not me. If she decides she wants to learn, I'll teach her, if she doesn't, I'll give her the best education, and I'll protect her until she's as old as I am. I won't make the same mistake I made with Mina.'
Determined, he grabs the handle and opens the door, only to see Mimi on the floor, sleeping.
''Hohoho, my granddaughter is really a tomboy.'' Roshi says with a giggle.
He approaches his granddaughter, and carefully, he picks her up in his arms and lays her gently on her bed.
----------
After a good nap after exercising, Mimi wakes up in a good mood.
''This childish body is really inconvenient, it's going to be complicated if I fall asleep out of nowhere every time I get exhausted...'' She says while yawning.
''Hm?''
Mimi realizes that she wasn't on the floor, but in her bed.
''Did grandpa come early?''
Getting out of bed, Mimi looks around the house but finds no one.
''Strange, if he arrived early, at times like this Grandpa would be looking at pornography or playing video games, where is he?'' She mutters to herself.
Having nowhere else to look for him inside the house, Mimi leaves her house, and soon finds her grandfather.
Roshi was sitting on a rock facing the ocean, in his hand he had his wooden cane and on his back he carried an giant tortoiseshell. The waves crashed violently against the rock, but nothing seemed to shake Roshi, who had a serene and serious expression on his face.
Mimi had never seen her grandfather look like that, normally he always had a perverted or funny face, but never as serious as he was now.
Worried that something might have happened for him to arrive so early and be so serious, Mimi runs across the sand and quickly gets to where Roshi was.
''Grandpa, grandpa! Are you ok?'' Mimi asked worriedly.
Hearing his granddaughter, Roshi stops staring at the ocean and looks down to see his granddaughter calling to him.
''Hohoho! Now, what is this? Little Mimi is worried about grandpa? Hohoho! This makes grandpa happy!''
''Did something happen?'' Mimi asked again, ignoring what her grandfather had said.
Roshi looks at his granddaughter, who is worried, and sighs.
''Yes, my granddaughter, something has happened. And it's something you're going to have to decide.'' He said, looking seriously at Mimi.
Mimi tilts her head, confused by her grandfather's behavior. It was so much weirder to see him so serious like that than the usual perverted demeanor she was already used to.
''What do you mean grandpa?''
''Hm, come here, little Mimi.''
Instead of answering her, Roshi catches Mimi with his staff firmly and with great speed, and with the same speed, he puts her on his lap, facing the ocean.
''G-Grandpa?!''
Mimi was startled to be caught off guard, but what scared her the most was the skill with which her grandfather picked her up with his cane and placed her on his lap, it felt surreal.
''Mimi, do you know what Martial Arts are?'' Roshi asks serious.
Hearing her grandfather's question, Mimi breaks into a sweat.
''M-Martial A-Arts? I-I dont know!'' She responds with her head down.
Roshi pats Mimi's head, and then looks at the ocean again, ''Hm, you see, Mimi, there is no true definition for Martial Arts, because everyone has their own definition. Some believe that Martial Arts is all about power, others believe it is the path to wealth, and of course, many just practice it as a hobby.''
Mimi, who was listening intently, asks curiously, ''And what is Martial Arts for you, grandpa?''
Roshi smiles, ''For me, Martial Arts is the art of overcoming the human limits!''
Mimi's eyes lit up at her grandfather's response, as she felt the same way he did about martial arts.
Then Roshi gets serious again, and looks at his granddaughter with piercing eyes, ''Mimi, do you want grandpa to teach you Martial Arts?''
''Eh? Do you know Martial Arts, grandpa?'' Mimi asks in surprise, she would never expect her perverted grandfather to know martial arts.
''Hohohoho! Little Mimi, not only do I know, I'm the best martial artist in the world!'' Roshi responds with a laugh as he strokes his beard.
Mimi looks at him in disbelief and suspicion, and Roshi, sensing his granddaughter's doubtful gaze, breaks out in a sweat.
''E-Ehem! How about grandpa show you some of my martial arts?''
''Okay, I want to see!'' Mimi replied.
'I think grandpa just wants to show off in front of his granddaughter, after all, an old man like him would hardly be able to make powerful moves.' She thought, but still pretended to be interested so as not to make her grandfather sad.
----------
After the conversation between the two, Roshi and Mimi go to the front of the house, with Roshi carrying a log in his hands.
''Grandpa, what are you going to do with that?''
'He's not going to try to split the log in half with his hands, is he?' Mimi thought worriedly.
''Hohoho! Just observe!'' Roshi replied.
Without giving Mimi time to say anything else, Roshi tosses the log into the air, then he places his hands behind his back relaxedly and jumps, stopping in front of the wooden log that was in midair.
''Ha!!''
In the next instant, Roshi kicks the log several times, but it was so fast, that Mimi couldn't see anything; for her, Roshi just jumped and stood in midair facing the wooden log.
Roshi gently falls in the ground, and soon after, the wooden log also hits the ground, but the moment it touches the ground, it opened like a flower into six different parts, all the same size.
Mimi looked at the whole scene with comically wide eyes.
'Eh?! EHHHHHH?! What did he do?! I couldn't see anything!!' She thought, completely amazed.
Roshi turned to his granddaughter and giggled, ''Hoho! What I did was interesting, wasn't it? If you learn martial arts from grandpa, you can also do that in the future, but if you don't want to learn martial arts, grandpa will still-''
''I WANT TO LEARN!'' Mimi yells, interrupting Roshi.
In her past life, no one could ever do something as inhumane as her grandfather has just did, Mimi's martial artist spirit was fully fired up!
'Maybe he really is the best martial artist in the world?!' Mimi thought excitedly, she couldn't believe such a coincidence, she, being a martial arts enthusiast, being the granddaughter of an inhuman martial artist master.
''Oh? Are you sure? Martial Arts isn't always fun, to do what I did, you're going to need to train with a lot of perseverance and willpower. I won't lie, Mimi, training in Martial Arts is often boring, monotonous, and hard, do you think you'll be able to stand your ground?''
''I will do it! If I can do what you did, I don't care if it gets boring or hard!'' Mimi responded with stars in her eyes.
Roshi smiles at his granddaughter's response, and then looks at her with a sinister smile.
''I want to see how long this will of yours will last! We'll start tomorrow, and don't expect me to be lenient because I'm your grandfather!''
Mimi was startled by her grandfather's expression, and couldn't help but wonder what kind of training she'd have to do to get to the level of doing what he did with the wooden log.
'Maybe it wasn't a good idea to agree without having heard everything he had to say...' She thought with sweat running down her forehead.
This book is just for my enjoyment, so don't expect a very elaborate plot, perfect grammar and things like that. But if you still liked it, please add it to your library, and if you have any suggestions for the fanfic, feel free to write in the comments section!
