Chapter 3

A/N- 1,198 words

"Put on your armour," Kenric looked at his mother who had just spoken those words to him as he had been practising his swordsmanship on the training grounds of the estate,

"huh?" Kenric looked back at her since it was an odd request from his mother.

Reha looked at her son and sighed, "I am not going to repeat myself Kenric, I saying this for your own benefit you are going to need it." she spoke as Kenric looked at her and then sighed as he picked up the light leather armour that he usually used it was quite well used as you could see from the wear on the straps as he cracked he stretched his body.

Looking at Reha it was evident about how serious she was meaning whoever he was going to fight was strong enough for her to ask him to wear armour but the question was who it could be. It wasn't long before he got his answer.

William Trevelyan walked out onto the training field wearing his old Templar armour set with a greatsword in his hand, Kenric looked at them and smiled "You sure it won't break down on impact?" Kenric teased as William returned a smile to his son.

"It might, though considering that it is you who I am facing I find it unlikely that it would ever happen," William spoke as he stood a few meters away from Kenric who smirked and got into his stance, his two swords pointing towards William who stood relaxed.

Reha on the other hand just sighed before moving away, something needed to happen no matter how much she didn't want it to happen.

Kenric on the other hand had calmed his breath as he faced William casually standing in front of him.

He might have said those things at the start but even he knew what he was facing was not something a Hurlock Alpha could stand up to, far from it here was someone who had no openings even when he stood casually he could sense that he would be blocked no matter where he attacked.

But that didn't mean that he didn't want to fight, after all, it wasn't every day he could go up against someone like his father without being worried about others just focusing on the duel the rest of the world be dammed, he felt the surroundings starting to blur out as his sole focus turned to William who smirked looking at Kenric.

'That is some scary level of concentration' He smiled as he saw the saliva dripping down Kenric's chin.

And then it happened a slight tensing of the muscles and Kenric launched himself at William who just smiled parrying the sword strike that came straight for his head,

The shock of the impact travelled Kenric arms making him almost lose his grip Kenric twisted his body and threw a kick at his father who just grabbed onto his leg and pulled him back before throwing him towards the ground, but a last-second kick to his right wrist loosened up his grip just a little allowing Kenric to twist his way out of being slammed into the ground as he was thrown further away barely keeping his balance as he landed.

"Oh My Kenric, I thought my armour was going to fall off" William spoke mimicking Kenric's tone who just snorted in return.

"I was just testing out the waters" his reply brought a smirk to his father's face since they both were uttering bullshit right now after their clash a few seconds ago.

'Moron is like this at fifteen, it would be a waste if he is kept here in Ostwick.' William mused but didn't say it out loud after all he was here to teach Kenric a lesson.

'Seems like I have a lot further to go' Kenric thought feeling his hands shaking from the impact.

Kenric didn't hesitate before launching his next attack, and William didn't hold back either as both of them clashed repeatedly.

Kenric's smile widened with each clash as his hands shook from the impacts while William pressed on feeling his superhuman strength and speed starting to decrease as the Lyrium in his veins started to dry up as he kept pushing Kenric just enough for him to improve before increasing the difficulty yet again as soon as Kenric caught up.

It was soon that Kenric's swords were knocked out of his hands, due to the impact they created when clashing with the greatsword.

He looked at his father who had barely broken a sweat while his clothes felt heavy due to the sweat.

Planting his sword into the ground William cracked his knuckles, "You didn't really think that I would let you off since you lost your swords now did you?"

Kenric smiled as he got ready since the next round was hand-to-hand combat.

And so it continued as both fought one another in the end it was Kenric who was finally lying on the floor with a bruised body and a smiling face as William looked at him and then shook his head.

"You don't like the chantry since they are drunk on power don't you?" William spoke as Kenric sighed staring at the sky,

"It is not all of them..."Kenric tried to defend as William raised his hand.

"You have met the divine what do you think about her?" William spoke as Kenric became silent,

"Well, she isn't bad."

"Then how about serving her"

"Wouldn't I be serving as a Templar or clergy if I do that?"

"Well, Kenric let me tell you something that you seem to be missing, there is another group that serves the Divine.."

Next day

"...Can't believe that you slayed so many darkspawn all on your own." Yera Vaghn spoke as Kenric just smiled seeing the fake smile that covered her face as she tried to influence the younger generation nobles, around her.

'Bitch' Kenric wanted to murmur as he caught his sister's eye who seemed to be thinking the same thing though since he had become the centre of attention due to his escapades the day before.

Meaning he could not escape even if he wanted to as such he was stuck while his sister enjoyed his plight from a safe distance while he cursed at her.

"Ah, so you must be William's son" Kenric turned around to see a middle-aged man with white hair and an aged face looking at him as he was wearing some plain-looking formal clothes with a sword slung on his waist,

Kenric greeted him as he couldn't quite place him since it seemed he had seen him somewhere and since he was at this dinner hosted by House Vaghn he should be someone important, to say the least.

Seeing his confused face the man smiled as he spoke up, "I was a friend of your father's back when he was serving the chantry, I must say if the tales are true he seemed to have raised a monster like himself..." The man smirked before catching himself,

"I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Aldren. Do you perhaps have a moment to spare?"
