Chapter 10

Today is Tuesday and I've decided to look for a job. I informed Lorelei and she pointed me to a man she knew.

He was running an operation that helped people find work. Though it's wasn't a stable job. She explained that I could go there in the morning of the day I wanted to work and he would send me as a helper where people were required whether it be the docks, a warehouse or something like that.

I must admit that it suited me perfectly and the only con was that I needed a one hour walk to get there. So, without wasting time, I went there as soon as I was ready.

It was a small office on the second floor of the building. I was greeted by a man with short grey hair and a big belly. He wore a white and blue checkered shirt with light brown pants.

Voranis: Hello sir!

?: Hello there young man, you must be Voranis. Lorelei called a little while ago and said you'd be coming by. You can call me Greg.

Voranis: Yes sir, I'm in dire need of a job.

Greg: Hmmm...How are you with heavy objects?

Voranis: I'm stronger than I look, it won't be a problem for me.

He sized me up and down for a bit and smiled.

Greg: Very well, you know a warehouse called Prime? Two days ago something happened there and well...things got weird, people got arrested and all that. Now, the warehouse was bought by Wayne Industries but they have a hard time finding trustworthy people to work there because of what happened and so they called me.

"Oh what a small world. I guess the police has already finished their investigation there. Who would have thought that because I helped those people there, I would find a job."

Greg: Now, I wouldn't give this job to anyone randomly but since Lorelei recommend you, I believe I can trust you. So, how about it? You want in?

Voranis: I would like to be in sir, yes!

Greg: Great! Now, take this paper and show it to them so they know you came from me.

We shook hands, I took the paper and went straight to Warehouse Prime.

People moving here and there and machine lifting things greeted me on my arrival. I asked around and was pointed at the office of the man responsible.

After a bit of talking and me showing him the paper Greg gave me, I found myself in yellow work overalls as I began my work.

It took some getting used to, but I thought of it as training. Thankfully, I didn't have any problem with heavy things but I put a limit on myself so as to not seem too strong.

After 6 hours of heavy work, I got payed what was agreed and more since I kind of did the work of two people.

First thing I did, was buy myself a smoothie. Secondly, I heard from my fellow workers that they give flowers as a gift and each one has a certain meaning.

"I'm pretty sure I saw a shop that sold flowers near the Metropolis University. I should investigate."

And so, I made my way to the university while enjoying the godly taste of this magnificent drink.

I was about halfway through my drink, when-

BOOM!

An explosion knocked me off my feet.

I pushed myself to my feet when I noticed a crime of the highest order. My divine liquid was spilt all over the floor.

"My SMOOTHIIIIIEEEEE!!!!!!"

Righteous indignation welled up inside me as I searched for the culprit.

A grey hulking figure rushed past me as the ground shook with each step he took. He had a square head and the letter 'B' on his chest.

"Vengeance shall be mine!"

Using dust and smoke as cover, I turned invisible and summoned my armor. Acting on a random idea that I had, I went ahead of him as he kept running.

I dropped my cloak and charged at his leg, using my whole body to trip him. My flawless plan worked and he fell down with a large boom.

I jump on top of him in triumph.

Voranis: Tell me villain! What do you have against smoo- Woah!

He suddenly grabbed me and threw me towards a building. I made a hole on the wall and dropped down.

Voranis: Ugh, you're gonna wish you hadn't done that.

Rushing at him, he threw a downwards punch at me and I jumped to avoid it.

Not trusting my somewhat unfamiliar legs, I used my hands to push myself up in the air using his arm as a pivot point.

I delivered a strong kick to the face and he staggered back. Not letting up, I kicked behind his knee and made him buckle down before giving him a few more punches.

Finally, I gave him a blast of psi-storm from close range to finish the deal.

He went limp and almost fell on me as I jumped back in a hurry.

Voranis: So, he's one of the supervillains I've read about? He did not look that super really.

Supergirl: Cinderblock is just a b-rate bad guy, nothing special to brag about, but good job nonetheless.

A voice informed me from behind my back and I crossed my arms and nodded in acknowledgement.

Voranis: I see- Woh! Supergirl!

I almost jumped in surprise but I managed to keep the embarrassing body language to a minimum.

"Oh no, I don't want to deal with supergirl right now! She won't recognize my voice thanks to my armor but you never know."

Supergirl: Hey new guy!

She waved at me and landed.

Voranis: Greetings!

I said with a hint of nervousness.

Supergirl: So, care to introduce yourself?

I stood with my back straight.

Voranis: I... am the blade of Aiur! My name-

"By the gods, I can't give her my actual name...and I can't think of something right now!"

Voranis: -is of no importance right now. I bid you goodbye, for I must depart.

With that, I cloaked and went to hide in the crowd that was starting to gather around the scene.
