Chapter 11

Stealthily leaving the scene of the fight, I kept walking around just to make sure nobody saw or followed me...especially Supergirl.

"I don't know if I can trust her yet, even though she seemed like a good person."

I finally arrived at the store I remembered. It had amazing scent and the colorful flowers gave it an exotic feeling.

"I hope nothing's poisonous!"

?: Hello! How can I help you?

Voranis: Um, hello! I would like some flowers as a gift but I'm not exactly sure what kind.

She smiled.

?: That mostly depends on why you give flowers and the person receiving them. Flowers have different meaning, some mean love, others friendship, you can even give flowers that mean reconciliation. If you can tell me what you need, I can point you to the right direction.

Hearing her talk about the meaningfulness of the flowers intrigued me more than I thought.

"Perhaps I should look more into it. For now though, what can be good?"

I thought about Lorelei and the feelings she brings to me.

Voranis: I would like something that means gratefulness and happiness.

She thought for a bit and then her face beamed.

?: I have exactly what you need!

She went to the back of the store and brought me a single lavender coloured flower. It had a shape that was resembled a butterfly. On large petal followed by two horizontal and two lower petals made an aesthetically pleasing sight.

?: This flower is called Lathyrus. It symbolises exactly what you need, gratefulness and happiness. The flower comes in a wide variety of colors, including white, cream, yellow, red, scarlet, pink, salmon, magenta, purple, lavender and blue.

Absorbing all the information, I couldn't exactly make a decision about the color and so I went with the bets choice.

Voranis: I'd like a flower bouquet made with Lathyrus with one of each color you have please.

I returned to Lorelei's house, excited to give her the flowers.

Voranis: Miss Lorelei, I know this isn't much compared to all the help you've given me but I'd like to give you this.

She did not expect it, but I was sure she liked the flowers.

Lorelei: Thank you Voranis, they are wonderful!

She accepted the flowers and went to put them in a vase with water.

I was also excited to talk about my first time working. I did so as we ate and we also talked about the recent events on the news and the things that happened on the warehouse after they were brought to light.

A bit later in the evening, I went for a walk and also payed a visit to the abandoned building for a quick training session after which, I went home and meditated before sleeping.

The following day was pretty uneventful if you disregard that the boss at the warehouse asked Greg for me specifically.

He said I could work there from eight to twelve every weekday. An offer I accepted gladly.

Thursday arrived and they off early at work after loading some crates on trucks. I got some time to walk around and when I thought it was a good moment for a smoothie, I noticed that it was about time for me to go to the library.

"No harm done, I'll ask Supergirl if she wants to go with me after this."

I looked inside the building but couldn't find her.

"Guess she's not here yet."

Without much to do, I got a book about flowers, took a seat at the place I was with Supergirl last time and began reading.

The book was part of a set and it contained interesting information about the origin, names and meaning of flowers.

Engrossed in my reading, I didn't notice Supergirl sitting next to me until she spoke.

Supergirl: Flowers huh? That's unexpected.

I turned to look at her and she waved with a smile.

Supergirl: Hello there!

I greeted her in kind but tilted my head a bit at what she said.

Voranis: I recently grew interested in them, but why unexpected?

Supergirl: Not even one of the guys I know care about stuff like that...well, except maybe when they try to woo a girl. You're not trying to do that, are you?

"Damn, did I do something weird again?"

Voranis: Is...it that strange?

Supergirl: No, not at all! In fact, it's something that adds to a man's charm.

Voranis: I see, thanks! By the way, can I ask you a question?

Supergirl: Shoot!

Voranis: Does eh... does that mean yes?

She giggled and gave me a playful push to my shoulder as she answered.

Supergirl: Yup!

Voranis: Ok so, what does 'woo a girl' mean?

As she heard my question, her cheeks blushed ever so slightly which made her look...

"What was the word again?"

Cute. It made her look cute.

"One thing I've noticed these seven days I've been on earth was that very few females rivalled the looks of Supergirl by Terran standards and that's without slight detail like her blush right now that can increase her attractiveness.

Though beauty will always be a subjective concept, human standards tend to revolve around external appearances."

While I was lost in thought, Supergirl was having a bit of a hard time trying to find the best way to explain my question.

Supergirl: Ok, I got it! It means to 'court a girl' but in a less gentlemanly way.

She nodded to herself in acknowledgement of her answer.

I wanted to ask more questions about the subject but she looked a bit uncomfortable so I opted not to.

Voranis: So, I heard you fought that Cinderblock guy the day before yesterday.

I thought about changing the subject.

Supergirl: Oh that?

She shook her head.

Supergirl: It wasn't me. I arrived after he was knocked down. The one who got him was a new guy with gold armor.

She leaned toward me after looking around and whispered.

Supergirl: Apparently, he was the one that busted the kidnapping and organ extraction business that was happening at the warehouse close to here.

Voranis: Oh! I know that warehouse! I started working there when it got purchased by Wayne Industries after the incident.

Supergirl: Really? What are the odds?

Voranis: I don't really know the odds but-

Supergirl was about to burst into laughter but she instantly put her hand on her mouth so as to not be too loud.

Her reaction puzzled me.

Supergirl: Sorry! I'm sorry! That was a rhetorical question so I didn't expect an answer, but you got that serious look and I couldn't help myself.

A mischievous thought crept into my mind as I remembered something from the TV device.

Voranis: I guess...now you have to make it up to me...for hurting my feelings.
