Chapter 4: Following The Portal

Robert found the AO and asked her to send him back through the portal he was originally going to use to be sent wherever.

The AO nodded and created a portal under him which he fell through.

"Wait?!?! I don't know where it goes....."

The AO didn't hear the rest as the portal closed. She just smiled to herself and got back to what she was doing before Robert's arrival.

Robert opened his eyes, he was laying down on a hospital bed and as he opened his eyes and sat up he saw a luxurious hospital room. There were expensive equipment everywhere and he had silk satin sheets and a silk robe adorned his body. As Robert was sitting up, he had unknowingly pressed the remote connected to his bed which called the doctors.

About a minute after Robert accidentally pressed the button the double doors to his room opened up and doctors and someone who looked like a butler arrived inside.

"Master Grey, thank god you are alright. I am elated to see you awake finally. Your mother and Father had almost given up hope."

"Master Grey?? Is that me?"

The Doctor looked shocked and stared wide eyed at Robert "Are you saying you don't remember who you are?

"Should I?"

Then the doctor turned to finish looking at Robert's test results that were taken as soon as he woke up and noticed something worrying.

"Mr. Coleman...."

"Please call me Arthur."

"Very well. Arthur. After the accident the doctors found the formation of a small tumor pressing against the patients frontal lobe. The attending doctor was able to remove it but said that the removal of the tumor could cause some memory loss. Based on what the young man just said, we can confirm that the patient has been afflicted with said memory loss. It bears the symptoms of retrograde amnesia, the patient can still complete basic functions such as breathing, walking, etc. But has no memory of who he is." The Doctor explained succinctly.

"Oh god, poor Master Grey."

"Don't worry, Arthur was it? I can always learn about myself again and who knows maybe my memory will come back."

Arthur turned away from the doctor to look at his Young Master and saw him smile for the first time in a long time. His Young Master had always had a cold and indifferent look on his face after the age of 5. None of the family knew the reason for the change but they still loved him.

"Yes Master Grey, we can only hope."

As Arthur turned back to have a conversation with the doctor about when Robert could be released, they were both unaware of what had happened to the young man in question in the last few minutes.

Robert had been staring at a screen in front of him that the other two couldn't see.

Robert looked towards the tab that said Message and clicked it with his mind.

Robert selected it and he saw multiple messages.

{Robert. You are probably wondering why you have this kind of system, well, it seems there was an issue with your reincarnation. When the Ancient One interrupted your portal, she inadvertently killed the artificial soul I had placed in a body for you. This shouldn't have been possible, but your soul was still weak after your death.]

[This caused your soul to be placed into the nearest empty vessel, the vessel of this young man had the same name as your last life. Apparently when this vessel was 5 years old another soul was sent from a universe of which I don't control. That soul had wished for a fully interactive system with multiple attributes to it such as missions, inventory, shop, and a customizable AI. That soul had died after the doctors had removed the tumor in it's brain and the soul's vessel died. You then inhabited the empty vessel.]

[I couldn't take the system away as the being from the other universe that created it seemed to be as strong as myself, but I could change it to sort your needs, I essentially merged it with your system you asked for to manage your realm and it now has both capabilities. Also, because of the unexpected situation I allowed you to complete missions to have access to the vessels memories. Also this vessel has the capability of Adaptive Physiology, it was supposed to activate when the vessel turned 15 which it is now.]

[I will offer you a small piece of information that you will get anyways once you begin your life. The vessel had been in an accident that caused it to be in a coma for 5 years. The doctors only caught the tumor about 3 months ago which is right about when you started your magic training. Your soul entered the empty vessel at that time.]

[I had to change the memories of everyone who knew the past inhabitant of your body so that they remembered the body looking like how you chose to look as I made that change as well.]

[Last note. When I added energy to change the looks of the body, the Adaptive Physiology activated at that time and healed the vessel to perfect condition and the memory was even enhanced despite the removal of the tumor which should have made it worse. The vessel, which I suppose is you now, has idetic and photographic memory. Your enhanced mind also has the capability to use Telekinesis in it's simplest form. It will be placed in your abilities section of your system. That is all the benefits you inherited from your new body.]

Although it seemed to take a long time to read, Robert had read it all in his mind which took only a couple of seconds. This is actually what had caused Robert to say that Arthur shouldn't worry about his memories.

Arthur just finished talking with the doctor who said they wanted to conduct more tests now that Robert was awake and then he should be allowed to be discharged as long as there isn't anything wrong. Arthur nodded and then went to make a short phone call. When he came back he looked at Robert.

"Master Grey, I have called your Mother and Father and they are happy to know you are awake and are on their way to the hospital right now. They should only be a 10 minute flight away, they have to grab the helicopter."

"My parents have their own helicopter?!?!?!"

"Yes, of course your father is the CEO of Grey Technologies, and your Mother owns the law firm Grey And Locke. They make quite the sum of money and they provide with all you could need."

"Wow, that's so cool!!!"

Robert was absolutely beaming and it brought a smile to Arthur's face. In light of the problems with his mind, at least Arthur could see him smile once more.

Arthur was brought out of his reverie by a question from Robert.

"So. Arthur. What exactly happened to me? How did I end up in the hospital?"

Even though the message from Origin told him their was an accident he didn't know what kind of accident it was.

Arthur had a look of trepidation about talking about it. It must have been a sore subject for him.

"You don't have to talk about to if you don't want to."

"My apologies Master Grey, I hold deep regret for the incident."

"I'm sure that it wasn't your fault, otherwise my parents wouldn't have let you remain employed."

Arthur's eyes widened but softened instantly after so Robert never saw it. Robert didn't know it at the time, but what he said at the end was starting to sound like his old self as he said it so casually without a care in the world.

"Yes. Of course. So there had been an assassination attempt on you. You were picked up from private school from a different chauffeur as I had prior arrangements and could not make it. From investigations that have been done about the incident, police confirmed that the chauffeur had been hired by the same individuals that tried to assassinate you."

"Do we know who hired him?"

(The least I could do is to try and find my body's killers and get revenge for the soul that used to inhabit it.)

"Unfortunately, the police were unable to make a connection to who could have ordered the hit. All that was left of the chauffeur, after the failed assassination and the car accident, was a single charred piece of paper that was treated to find the contents which was a drawing of a Lotus."

After hearing Arthur's last words a look of recognition appeared on his face, then it went slack and he fell back on the bed.

Arthur saw recognition in Robert's eyes and hoped it meant he was starting to remember and he knew who ordered the hit, but after his face went slack and unmoving he got very concerned.

"MASTER GREY, MASTER GREY ARE YOU OKAY? MASTER GREY!!!!"

To understand what was happening you have to go back to when Arthur mentioned the Lotus.
