"Who am I supposed to see?"
Shin's question paralyzed me. I'm...
"Just... just a person damn it," I whispered. I know how hard it is to see someone like me as a person. I don't see it either... but it doesn't mean I don't want to be treated as one.
It's selfish as hell, I know. I don't deserve it. I know. I'm better off dead. I know. I'm sorry. I want something I don't deserve.
Shin's iris contracted as his eyes widen. His face looks like it's ready to blow up...
Oh well... this is my punishment for not keeping it cool.
"Then!" Shin shouted as I closed my eyes, ready for impact, "Then act like one." his voice lowered as I hear a loud smash on the door.
Slowly opening my eyes, I find a shattered door, kicked down by Shin. It revealed the ballroom... or what was left of it. The roof, gone. The upper walls, fallen. Fog... no smoke in the air. Even if I tried, I can't see more than a few meters in front of me.
"You're... not... mad?" I accidentally thought out loud.
"I am. I would kill you right now if we weren't in the middle of a massacre. No... I would kill you, either way, but Alfie would hate me. Alfie helped me. Alfie helped us. She had no obligation to do so, but she did." Shin kicked the air the blow away the smoke, making a small path through the panicked crowd. "We have to help her." He whispered.
"Returning the favour huh?" I asked following Shin as he runs around aimlessly, countless people screaming, screeching for help.
"If I was a better person I'd try to help everyone here. They're dying... I know you know that. Someone's running around murdering everyone in their wake. I despise it... but I'm only concerned about Alfie and Fay." His lip started bleeding from him bitting it out of irritation.
"I get it, dude, same. Being like that's closer to human than a cliche protagonist." I slapped his back to distract him from the biting.
"I'm nothing like you,"
"Good," Don't be like me.
Shin continued running and as I tried to follow, he threw a death glare at me. "Don't forget about our friends. Misa, Mia and Kyle... they're still here. I'll be fine on my own,"
R-Right...
I have to admit... I forgot about them completely. They're here too!
"Don't die on me! You still got a certain redhead to kill!" I ran away from Shin, shouting.
"If you die, I'll kill you!" A distinct shout travelled through the incomprehensible screams to be a faint cry.
No matter how much we hate each other, we have one thing in common. I hate me too.
Through the smoke, through the halls, through the soft light of the sun, I ran and kept running. Are they here for them? If they are...
What if I'm not fast enough?
What if I'm not strong enough?
What if I can't stop them?
What if I'm too weak again?
"Go faster," I muttered, maybe to my own legs, maybe to a god I've never believed in.
My surroundings become a blur as my focus intensifies on just going there. I've only been there once. I don't know where I am, but I just kept running. Come on... find something, anything. Just her voic-
"Is there a fricking fire?! We're stuck in here! I can't die like this, it's pathetic!" Never in my life would I imagine me smiling hearing that complaining.
Without another hint of hesitation, "Freeze!"
Suddenly, I could see my very own breath as the door turns to ice. I should be paralyzed from the cold right about now, but adrenaline's sure making me forget how freezing to death feels like!
"Forge!" Liquid iron formed around my hands as it turns into a glove, incasing my fist. Railing back, the iron became solid.
United States of SMASH!
I delivered a blow as I hear a crack. Suddenly, the ice started cracking, shattering the walls into different shards and pieces then I with a flash of pain, I see the glove, destroyed along with my bloodied hands.
"Yo," I greeted as I see the entire hallway covered with ice, "Did I overdo it?"
"Oh yeah, you overdid it,"
Hope you enjoyed the new chapter! Sorry, the hiatus was longer than I expected, but I am back. Not much to say, but thank you for sticking by this far!
