Life in Edin

Finally, we caught up to the 2 in front of the garden's entrance.

Oh, shoot... if Alfie finds out that I used more forbidden magic. She's gonna murder me...

"It seems l-like it took longer than necessary for you to arrive," Fay said, glaring at Shin, a little annoyed about being cradled.

"Yeah, sorry. I thought it would be more helpful if we brought Alfie along," I pointed towards the elf looking at Edin with her jaws dropped.

"I see... I agree miss Alfie is very helpful, but since my condition has improved I find no need of finding master hastily, apologies command- Amber and miss Alfie for making you come all this way and a-apologies to you t-too... Shin," Fay looked away from Shin.

Fay's headache seemed to ease up a bit, but if that ever happens again...

"We might need Grail..." I whispered grudgingly. As much as I hate the fact that we might need to depend on that annoying vampire, I don't know how to ease her pain up if her headache becomes worse.

What. A. Pain!

Oh well... for now I'll just focus on the fact that I feel a love-hate relationship developing between Fay and Shin. Maybe... the hate in that relationship will disappear...

I smiled with support at Shin with my thumbs up.

No matter what situation I'm in... I can't help it! I'm a shipper at heart! Love is such a FASCINATING thing. What people would do for it... what people would do because of it!

I can't wait to see where this goes...

The tropes are endless from here!

"Please. Stop. Smiling." Uncomfortable Shin backed into the wall, scared.

"What?" I pulled out an innocent look.

Shin raised an eyebrow, "Anyways, we should get into t-"

"An in! Since we have money now! Let's go into an in!" I do not have enough guts to wanna see an elf that has survived for thousands of years mad...

"Right, I TOTALLY forgot about that tournament," I'm not sure if Shin's being sarcastic or genuine right now, but it's better if he forgets... my dagger was too close to your neck for my comfort. I thought he'd be even harder on me after that, but Fay's talk with him is really helping me right now eh?

We walked up a few layers on the gigantic staircase to find an actual clean road to walk on. Not wanting to attract unwanted attention, I pulled up my mask as I strolled along the streets.

"I swear this city becomes more and more divided every time I visit," Alfie mumbled to herself.

"When was the last time you visited?" I asked impulsively, forgetting that she's old as hell.

"A few centuries ago. I came here with a friend,"

I do wanna know who that 'friend' is, but I shouldn't push it. I know what it's like... to want to just forget someone or something that happened completely.

A few seconds of awkward silence later...

"Found an in!" Alfie pointed at curly lines made to look like letters pulled out of the enchantment table or something. As if I can read that...

Welp! This will truly be blind trust that Alfie won't be selling us as slaves or something. If she does... I'll break that entire portal myself.

No! Happy thoughts Amber! Positive! Don't threaten anyone!

As we walked closer a pleasant aroma flew out of the in. I'm... not hungry, but... I really wanna eat.

"I'm salty I can't taste anything," I muttered, disappointed as we walked inside.

"That sentence does not make sense," Fay got down from Shin's cradle and supported herself by holding onto my cloak.

"You sure you can stand?" Shin's voice was gentle and soft. Way more tender than talking to me. Thanks for the double standards! I mean she tried to KILL you... you know that, right?

"Yes... thank you," Fay had a slight smile on her face.

Nevermind... she's a cinnamon roll. Shoot, best girl number one has already appeared, but... never in a million years will I EVER let Shin even consider adding her to his harem.

"How much for a room?" I asked the guy at the reception, slamming the reward coins onto the front desk.

Not a smart move if I want a cheap price, but I really wanna brag to everyone... and I've always wanted to do this. It always looked pretty cool when the characters in anime do it... even though it can be pretty stupid.

"12 silver coins,"

12?! Ok, I'm freaking out, but I really have no idea if that's a good price or not...

"12?! In this level of the city, it should be at most 3!" Alfie came in to save me.

So... I was right to freak out! Cool cool cool.

"Ma'am the lowest I can possibly go is 7 silver coins, I assure you we have the best rooms at this level,"

"5. That's my highest," Alfie slid some platinum badge to him, making his eyes widen.

What's that? I... still can't read. Gosh, darn it...

"R-Right away miss. How many rooms would you like?"

Alfie turned to me, making me decide...

"Uhhh..." 4? Is that a waste of money? I feel like that is... do we really need a room for everyone? Oh wait... we got cash!

"4," I said, slowly getting more distracted by the smell of the dishes. An in with a restaurant eh? Not uncommon, but cool.

As Alfie continued to reserve the rooms for us I gave her the bag money and walked into the restaurant's zone. I tried sitting down, but it made me realize that Fay had followed me.

"Oh... I made you walk, sorry,"

"There is no need for someone of your position to apologize to me... the smell was intriguing me as well," Fay sat down and gestured for me to sit too.

Why not? It smells really good... maybe she'll enjoy the food.

Fay ordered the cheapest thing in the menu while I picked a cake from a drawing. Alfie and Shin joined us a little later, but both didn't order anything. Shin thought I might poison him and Alfie wasn't hungry.

Even after Fay's talk... he still doesn't trust me huh? Reasonable... still frustrating though.

Soon after a gooey soup was served to Fay and strawberry cheesecake to me.

"Wanna switch?" I offered Fay my cake.

Not like I'd taste anything anyways...

"No thank you, food is just a necessity to stay active," Fay ate it with no problem at all despite the soup looking like it's as old as Alfie.

What did I expect? Such a shame... the cake looks so good.

I stabbed my fork into it and ate it without a single reaction. Only textures... my pin resistant is really not helping me with receiving those too. I looked disappointed yet bored at the same time, sighing before every bite.

"I know that look," Alfie glared at me.

What look?

"Can't taste anything right?"

How did she kno-

"Knew it," She grinned at my suffering.

Has my face really become that readable? Even Hiroto can read it... when did that happen? Also, how does she know that I can't taste anything? Normal demons won't really complain about what they never had... people like me are rare... very rare.

So how does she know that?

I'm alive! I really have to apologize for the very long break! School is still insane right now with 2020 being such a merciful year... but I will try my best to publish frequently!
