Chapter21: The akane family

As the battle had ended all appeared at the barracks all but... Kanan akane.

The lone warrior who went against the king's orders had immediately set off to meet his family.

Dragging his bruised and damaged body through one of the many common cities of kronen.

Its name tortured.

Broken roof tiles on most houses, some buildings didn't even have roofs.

Some only had a single room, or maybe they didn't even have four walls.

The air was stinging each time you breathed it in.

The stench of rotten meat filled the noses of all those who had no money or the strength to own the rotten meat.

Not like those who did were much better off...

As they were the ones eating the decaying corpse of unknown origin.

This was the life of the common people on kronen uncared for by their king.

With a shortage of food throughout all of the six common cities civil war was all but assured.

And thanks to Densetsu's display of strength all those who witnessed him will know exactly how to get their way...

Stumbling his way through the dirt filled roads Kanan eventually found his home and with it his wife waiting to greet him with open arms.

She soon spoke "the lights broke again, but Kareen and the boys went to scavenge some rats for tonight so you rest up my love we'll worry about tomorrow when it comes".

And so Kanan sat himself down on the uncovered floor.

Luckily it was only mud so it wasn't hard to sit on it for a few hours.

And only a few moments later...

Stumbling through the doorway like a herd of raging bulls were Uzunami and his younger brother Yugo.

And the oldest child Kareen followed behind with a tattered cloth bag half full of rat.

"Hi mum sorry about the wait, these two little rascals got into a little trouble along the way" Karren softly spoke rubbing her hands across her younger brothers heads.

"Trouble? What kind of trouble?" Koya asked her mind jumping to many conclusions.

"Nothing I couldn't handle so don't worry about it" Karren answered her worrying mother as she cleared the table eventually placing the rats on top.

"Hey dad you're injured but your so powerful who could beat you?" Uzunami cried out as he ran to his father's aid.

"Oh don't worry my little emperor nothing will keep me away from my family, I promise you all that" Kanan pledged with the slightest smile he could manage.

A much older woman appeared from out of no where almost as if she was a ghost.

Without a second glance Uzunami sprinted to this woman as he called "gran your finally awake please heal dad he's injured really badly".

"Don't you worry Uzunami but one day your gonna have to learn how to heal those around you" she warned as she waved her hand glistening with the red aura of life energy.

And with that wave Cylet created two scarlet drones and targeted the injured Kanan with them.

In which Uzunami claimed "gran gran is the best healer on all of kronen you'll be better in no time dad" his eyes began to glisten with the hope of a naive child.

"You know its a little weird how you can have so much hope in a elderly woman when we've never known her before she became this ghost" Yugo spoke, aggression in his voice heard by all but Uzunami.

"But brother isn't it better to enjoy what we have now instead of wanting more?" Uzunami asked.

But Yugo argued back without hesitation for Uzunami's feelings "with that mindset you would think I'm the older brother".

A long and painful silence entered the room, no one making a sound until the youngest sibling began to cry.

The mother rushed over without any thought.

Koya cradled Akui trying her best to settle the newly born member of the akane family.

And finally the family sat themselves onto the floor having no chairs for the table.

Preparing themselves to eat the raw rat, they all sat with looks of disgust.

After all it might be all they have but the rotten tails, the empty eye sockets, and finally the skeletons which sat in the middle having nowhere else to place them.

This was all but enough to make any normal family be sick at the sight of any food for the rest of their lives but to the akane family this was a good day.

"Hey big sis can you cut it up for me" Kult the youngest brother asked helplessly.

And suddenly a swarm of bird like feathers filled the room, and cut each and everyone's rats into five precise pieces.

"I have to go get some rest..., tomorrow is the day I join you dad" Kareen spoke her face exotically happy.

But Kanan's was full of endless sorrow, as he was left wanting a better life for his family.

One which he will take.

And as the siblings followed their big sister to bed one by one, Kanan spoke his thoughts no matter how brutal they were.

"Its settled..., I've made my decision after all there's nothing I wouldn't do for my family" Kanan clenched his fist causing his own hand to pour with blood. 

Beginning to stand Kanan continued "my love tomorrow at the first sign of dawn I promise everything will change for our family, big changes are coming and I'm gonna make sure that we prosper more then anyone else".

"There's your father's ambition I was wondering if you had any of it in you my son" Cylet spoke seeming to have rekindled a spark inside her.

And soon after Kanan's claims were made nothing but laughter could be heard from the only other room in the akane house.

Kareen shouted "and if you don't behave for mother tomorrow the most evil zeon of all will send his ghouls after you".

But while both Uzunami and Kult were timid the second youngest brother was brazen.

As Yugo argued back "I would protect us all from the ghouls I'll never lose".

Kareen using her feathers tucked her brothers into their torn leather blankets as she softly spoke "I'm sure you won't Yugo, now rest all of you tomorrow we celebrate".
