Chapter 9

A big burly man walked out once the elevator open. He had sharp features and a nicely trimmed beard. He looked Zero up and down. He then proceeded to walk up to the person behind the counter. "Who's he?," asked the man. The person behind the counter told him what had happened. "Give him the ranking test," said the man. "But he has no money, sir," said the person. "It doesn't matter. Just do it," said the man.

Zero was then lead to the room behind that was behind the counter. "Ranking test?," he thought to himself, wondering what it was. He then proceeded to enter the room. The room looked more like a laboratory. It wasn't all that big, but it was organized enough that it felt spacious. The person that stepped into the room before Zero, got out a small crystal ball that was connected to a computer. The person passed it onto Zero. "What do I do with this?," asked Zero to the person. "Just hold on to it," the person responded to Zero's question. The person looked at the computer and started looking at the rank. The person then proceeded to tell the man what the rank was. After them discussing it for a couple of seconds, they then told the rank to Zero.

The rank that he got was D. "What is the lowest rank one can get?," asked Zero. "It is F," answered the person. "And what is the highest?," asked Zero. "At the moment the highest is S+," answered the man, who was standing next to the door with his arms crossed. "It's different from what Shadow said. I'll see if I can have the system updated by him," thought Zero.

While this was happening though, Shadow was already updating the status window. He was also wondering why he had levels instead of ranks.

"What decides what rank you get," asked Zero the man. "It is all decided on the skills one possesses," the man said before continuing to speak, "I'll give you a quick rundown on the ranks and what they mean. F is for somebody who has no skills at all. E through A is all about how good are the skills. And S rank is for skills given by having contracts with gods, or constellations, however you want to refer them as. So skills are not really that much of a factor in joining this guild. The only people who put worth on those ranks are people in cities."

"Is that so? Then what is the requirement to join the guild? In fact, who even are you?," asked Zero having remembered that he didn't know who this man was.

"It's Victor. I am the guild master. And to answer your first question, the requirement is to prove yourself while hunting goblins, but I'm sure you've already heard of the situation. However I'm pretty sure you can work yourself around a dungeon, so you can go with somebody that can test you."

"Who will I go with."

"Me."

"Okay then, when do we leave?"

"We leave now."

Zero and Victor then went on to a dungeon. At this point, Zero did not know about what dungeon he would go to face, but he knew that no matter what he would try his best, and he would use this time to train as well.
