Chapter 76 - News

One week has passed since Avery and Yue's intimate session, and a lot has happened.

As soon as they got back, they started making preparations for their siege on the goblin castle.

They first increased the size of their military from 51 to 120. They assigned them according to what Race Traits they got and gave Lia the job to handle their training alongside the establishment of the cavalry.

Avery was confident that she would be able to do it as he had already given her the guidelines, plus her talent was S-Rank. However, he did check up on her progress once in a while to make sure everything progressed smoothly.

Estel along with some other scouts, on the other hand, was not in the village as they were tasked to scout and observed the goblin castle.

Currently, the military of Aevum Village is composed of the following: 10 Sentries, 48 Swordsman, 16 Mages, 22 Archers, and 20 Cavalry. If you include Avery, Yue, Lia, and Estel then the total would add up to 120.

Avery and Yue could have increased the military more if they had more equipment, but the equipment inside the armory was only enough for 120 of various classes. It was already good since the lowest-tiered starting villages would only have enough for 30 soldiers.

Though, they would surely increase the military more once they found the necessary resources to make the equipment. There is also the problem with food security. They would have to be careful to make sure not to increase the population too much unless they want their food resources to deplete quickly and starve to death.

During this week, Avery and Yue mostly spent their time training, overseeing the village, and flirting with one another whenever they got the chance. They had not gotten too intimate like last time and kept things at kissing and cuddling for now.

Then on the last day of the week, Estel came back with some news. She had done what was tasked to her and eliminated any scouts that came out of the goblin castle, but the goblins inside the castle have started to take the problems seriously as they are now preparing to send a large part of their force to check on what was happening.

Avery didn't take this news as a bad one but considered it as an opportunity to eliminate the castle. He immediately concocted a plan and immediately tasked Lia to prepare the army for the next day.

This brings us to the present.

Inside the forest, 8 km south of Aeveum Village.

Avery and Yue, along with their small army are currently resting inside a forest clearing. Their plan was simple, ambush the goblins and eliminate them just like how they did last time. It was an opportunity since the goblins would not be able to utilize the defensive position they would have when inside the castle.

Plus with an ambush, they would be able to set up traps and catch them off guard as long as they do it right.

Though they did have a discussion about whether to attack the castle first and take advantage of its defensive position to eliminate the ones that went out, however, that idea was quickly dismissed since they might get pincered if the goblins decided to rush back when they hear that the castle is under attacked.

There is also their disadvantage of choosing mastery over light and ranged weapons as their trait. The fact that they would have no one specializing in shielding and spearmanship would limit them on some occasions.

Their advantage does not lie in head-on confrontation when the enemy has a stable shield at the front with spears behind like the Spartans of Earth. Their swordsmen's advantage lies in dealing with spread-out enemies as they would team up and eliminate them one by one.

This is another reason why they chose to ambush the goblins instead. They could easily disrupt the enemy's formation and spread them out before quickly taking them down.

Though Avery took note of this disadvantage when choosing the trait with Yue. They had discussed that this would be disadvantageous at the start but when they are able to develop their magic enough, then this disadvantage would disappear.

This is why their stats and traits were more focused on magic. It is versatile, and if developed enough by someone intelligent then the potential is endless. This brings also brings us to the reason why they chose having enhanced intelligence as the last trait they chose for their race.

The disadvantage is only at the start, as things would be better later on. As long as they go through this right then everything would be good, and the power they could obtain later on would be unimaginable.

As Avery and Yue were discussing these, they were interrupted by Lia who approached them along with another elve.

"Your Majesties." Lia and the other elve kneeled in front of the siblings with their heads bowed down.

"Hmm?" Yue turned her attention to them, as she eyed them in wonder. However, as soon as she saw the other elves, she instantly knew their purpose.

"Rise," Avery said having the same conclusion as Yue.

"Thank you, your majesties." Lia and the other elve respectfully said before standing up.

"Nn." Yue nodded in acknowledgment before quickly getting to the main point. "So any finding regarding the goblins that set out?" She said as she moved her gaze to the scout that they sent hours ago.

"Yes, your majesty. According to what we have observed, the goblins number around 300. They are composed of 100 spearmen, 100 Swordsmen, 50 Archers, 50 Wolf Riders."

"That's a lot." Yue frowned a little from the number.

"The level?" Avery asked immediately.

"Your majesty. The lowest we have seen so far is around level 16, we are also unable to check the highest ranking due to the level difference."

"Hmm…" Avery hummed as he thought of the numbers and level difference. Their army was only around level 10 after some efforts, while he, Yue, and the two generals were around level 14-16. This was only possible because of some leveling up they did in the wild whenever they can.

It was the right call not to attack the castle if their range of level was similar to the goblins that went out. Their army would surely have taken a lot of time if they were attacking them first, allowing the one who went out to easily pincer them.

"Do you think we could do it big brother?" Yue asked with concern.

At the question, Avery simply closed his eyes as he thought of the chances. After a while, he opened his eyes and said, "The goblin castle is a threat, we have to eliminate it before they could discover our village and report it to their kingdom. I am sure they are going to be happy once they found out that there is a race full of beautiful elves. Given the nature of goblins, it is obvious what our outcome would be if we are to lose. So we have no choice but to proceed."

Hearing his response, Yue simply sighed in relief as her face visibly relaxed. One would think that a person should be more worried after hearing his statement, just as Lia and scout had worry on their face, but it seems Yue figured out something.

"Hmm? You don't seem to be worried?" Avery asked curiously as she saw her shift of expression.

"Hehe… how do I say this? It's because from how you explained it, it seems that you have a plan right big brother?" She said with a smile before adding, "...and based on what we were doing so far from the past week, then I can guess where your confidence comes from."

"Oh? What is your guess?" Avery prodded for more information. She was right and he wanted to know how far she had guessed.

"It's obvious, right? It should be because of…"
