It was nighttime, and exactly 12 hours had passed since the trial. The king and queen were sitting in their chambers, discussing the events that had transpired.
"I feel so incompetent," Nerum suddenly said, and the sadness on his face was evident.
"Don't blame yourself. We all felt the same way," Newir replied, placing her hand on top of Nerum's. Both of them were truly saddened. The kingdom they had seen as perfect and safe was, in reality, filled with various forms of poison. How could they not feel sorrow?
"If Lord Aaron hadn't come, we would have lost our daughter and the rest of our family, not to mention our people. I don't deserve to be king," Nerum said, lowering his head slowly.
