Different Ways to use Magic

Three students rushed into the classroom. They were sweating as they got their seats

Sigh,

"We made it!!!" exclaimed Asa and blushed as this time Yaseang sat beside her in the last row.

They took their seats and waited for sensei. This time she had ignored the whispers her vampiric ears had heard

A few moments had passed, yet Ms. Amelia as the instructor has yet to show her face in her own class.

The murmurs began. Then as the time passed by, it became louder. Why? The teacher it seemed, was yet to arrive.

"Let's have a party after school"

"why is Yaseang sitting with them"

"Did their act manage to seduce him?"

"I heard he was changing departments is it true"

The Students started to discuss different topics, which had them distracted. As she reached the classroom, Ms. Amelia found her students unaware of her arrival. She looked amused at the situation.

Her full name was Amelia Solace member of the Solace guild. Solace was the only one that let you use its name as your surname.

She is 5 feet 4 inches(163cm) tall. Dark brown hair and eyes and a soft but gentle voice make one wonder how melodious would it be if she ever sang.

She was wearing a long, sleeved turquoise dress that had a hood attached to it. Her dress had elaborated cyan markings. To go with the dress was an ornate necklace of ruby red.

Class started to quiet down, as students started to realize the teacher was already in.

"What happened, why so quiet?" A student unaware of the teacher at the teacher's desk looking at him demanded his friends.

They gestured for him to look behind.

It took him a few moments to realize what the gesture meant and once he turned to look, he froze "I am sorry. Sensei" he bowed.

"Please be aware of your surroundings students. Our world contains danger everywhere." Ms. Amelia reminded with concern evident in her eyes.

Such a tone made students feel guilty for not having noticed her earlier and to never repeat the same.

Her being the strongest but, the gentlest teacher made it worst for them. As they wondered what if she ran out of patience one day?

"Sorry, mam." The whole class chanted as if it was a sacred ritual

"I will forgive you this time as I am your teacher. But, remember to always stay aware." She said forgiving her class "Let's start today's lecture."

She did not dwell or gave a long lecture as she believes in her students "Students! We could continue learning new chants to do magic but I wanted to ask you all something"

"How would you define different ways a magic spell could be used?

Please exclude rune, Incantations, and magic circles from your answers"

Almost all hands had risen and wanted to get chosen to answer the question.

"Yes, Mr. Solomon what would your answer be?" She asked pointing toward a student from the middle row

"Mam I know only one other way that necromancers use the ritual magic"

"That is correct. but, also wrong dear.

Correct that they are infamous for using forbidden ritual magics. But, wrong in assuming that no one other than necromancers or dark casters use ritual magic

Even we at this academy, use ritual magic one such example would be the familiar summoning.

Which you will be performing in about one week." She explained in a melodious voice and the content made the class feel excited as she continued

"This was one example of the ritual magic. Would there be other types of usage or this is all types of usages?"

Hands raised once again but fewer. Most of them were from the children of noble houses specializing in magic.

"Yes, you at the back. Mr. Yaseang" Ms. Amelia asked the boy

"One of the ways would be the way army use most of the time. The companion or army magic in which you perform a spell together with your partner. Casting a spell that would be far stronger than you could cast solo.

This can result in many combinations. Most common would be duo spells, party spells, and army spells." Yaseang explained

"That is correct and here at the academy, you will learn to cast a few of such spells. Are there any more ways to cast a spell or this was the last?" Ms. Amelia smiled at her students

This time there were only two hands risen. One of them was Anne's and another Ciobara's, latter had raised her hand for the first time.

"Ms. Vendaul, would you please answer"

"There are three more ways not mentioned by my classmates" Ciobara stated

'So, It's Vendaul, not WhenDoll, that's a relief' She sighed in relief that it was memories that messed her name.

"Would you please elaborate on that for your class Miss Ciobara." while also wondering if she, herself did not know of a way to use magic spells. Ms. Amelia only had 2 more ways in mind.

"Three more ways include two usual and one special way

The first would be the incantations that summon spell circles.

It is different from either of them alone depending on the situation. It could be faster or stronger than either if done correctly.

The downside would be the increase in difficulty to perform such a spell.

The second is the item or artifact spells. They are instant cast.

The instant cast is the advantage of using them. But the availability of such items makes them rare due to the complexity of their craft.

Making them rarer the higher the spell rank.

The third way is the special one, removing the need for conduits.

As the conduit, this time is the caster's control over mana.

It is the direct manipulation of mana to perform spells. The difficulty of such an endeavor makes this the hardest to learn.

So much so, that it is almost impossible to find anyone doing effective spells before they reach the stage of an Archmage or a sage.

This could enable you to perform a spell stronger than its tier. Making it possible to surprise your opponent with a deadlier spell.

That would be all, Sensei." Ciobara explained in as least detail as possible

"You had me wonder about the third way. Although it is special; it is impractical. As it had been abandoned due to its complexity and less than desired results.

Imagine an Archmage who can only perform spells of a mage rank. Even with their mana control, they wouldn't be able to make the spell as deadly as spells of their own rank.

Using the other ways is much more practical.

Only an idiot would use a spell that way" Ms. Amelia emphasized its impracticality

'wait, what no one uses that way, the world is turning interesting.' She considered no mage talented. If they could not perform spells with only mana.

"With this let's continue our lecture today we will be learning the incantation of…" Ms. Amelia started her lecture.

While Ciobara was feeling amused at the fact that her favorite way of spellcasting was considered trash in this world

Asa was having trouble of her own as she was sitting by her crush each time her sight wandered towards him, she blushed changing the direction she was looking in.

'He is so handsome. What do I do?' 'Should I confess' 'No I am too young for that' 'why did he have to sit with us not his seat in the front' Asa went into an overthinking mode, never listening to what the teacher was saying

Meanwhile, Ciobara was looking at her new body's pathetic state of mana control once more.

Sigh,

Even the spell she did to scare the bullies, had drained almost the entirety of her mana. And it was just a circled spell.

"Asa and Mr. Saja, would you care to join me on a trip" Ciobara tilted her head at the duo who were still packing their stuff.
