A Mother's Love

"Yo, why're ya reading basic history?" a boy with white bear-like ears and white hair asked.

Closing the book, she stood up, took another book entitled 'Acos Monster Index', and scoffed at the boy: "It doesn't concern you."

"That book," the boy pointed to the book with his index finger, "is outdated."

"Are you, the librarian?" she frowned, shifting her gaze to his face.

"N-no…, but I love reading books and have been reading here for a while I at least know which are useless to read" the boy stammered, sweat running down his forehead as he fiddled with his fingers from anxiousness.

"No book is useless, and sometimes, the deadliest spells come from ancient books," Ciobara said as she opened the book, flipping through the pages.

"Don't disturb me, leave." She gestured for him to leave while immersing herself in the book.

She couldn't read much before the library closed for freshmen. With determination to continue tomorrow, she left the library.

As she entered the dorm, she found all of her roommates present which was very unusual. Ignoring them she went toward her bed and found a package placed on top.

"What's this?" She wondered out loud.

"Bruh, your mother's gift you receive every month" one of the roommates who looked half cat replied

She was confused as she didn't get memories of receiving such a package before. But still decided to open it and in it was a box and a letter

The box contained a bottle with a red-colored potion inside and the words written on the letter suggested it was quite rare.

"Only take a sip daily. I'll send more next month. Take care sweetie – Love Mom" such a short letter only her mom would write

Her body grew agitated as she read this, and her heart began to beat rapidly as if it wanted to empty the bottle's contents at this instant.

As she took a sip a tear fell down her cheek and she did not know how to feel this was blood and it was tastier than what [Sapid Sagine] could produce which was logically impossible.

The only way for it would be a psychological reason. Due to this, she figured out whose blood that was. It was her Mom's

Suddenly her eyes lost color as a memory got triggered

A cry resounded in the house and snapped the mother out of her task. She immediately dropped the knife to hurry toward the cradle while reassuring words left her mouth. "Mom's is coming, sweetheart."

The infant Ciobara's emerald eyes turned red when she saw her mother's cut finger. Her primal instincts filled her immature body, giving her the strength to leap on her prey.

Confusion enveloped the mother. She found herself on the floor, with the infant Ciobara attached to her neck. Blood spurted out from where the child's teeth had pierced her flesh, making her panic and struggle to escape that dangerous situation.

However, a delightful sensation overwhelmed the panic and replaced any other feeling. The mother's struggle ended as the bite made her experience the greatest joy of her life.

Later that day.

"I'm home," father said after returning from selling merchandise at his store in the capital, but no one answered. He was enraged but also concerned since his wife would have already opened the door and the baby would still be weeping.

When he went to the baby's room to check on her, he discovered his wife looking pale and asleep next to the infant on the floor after searching the entire house in vain for them.

His wife seemed unconscious and pallid, which alarmed him. He rushed her to a healer, who informed him that she was on the verge of death due to blood loss.

If he had brought her here a bit later his wife would be no more.

"Ughh..." his wife woke up holding her head and she looked confused at the surroundings. "Rys, what happened how did you lose so much blood?" He inquired impatiently.

"I was…" as she started to explain she remembered what happened and decided to not tell to protect her daughter "I don't remember"

They returned after healing and medicine were prescribed while the baby was still asleep now in her cradle as the father did not forget the baby.

Color returned to the lost eyes of a student in the dorms as a roommate waved her palm in front of the lost girl, "Calling Ciobara to the world."

"Oh, sorry, was just having a thought," she said, clearly sad because she had never had parents in her previous life. And in this one, the mother was giving her blood for herself.

A mother's love had brought tears to her eyes.

'Is this why they called a mother's love the best love in any universe?'

"Whatever you say." the cat-girl shrugged at those words and got back to her studies.

"Thank you! Ugh... what was your name?"

"it's Hisanori, don't you dare forget again nya," Hisanori replied without looking up from her book.

Just like this, seven days passed and the time for the familiar summoning ceremony was upon them.

"Welcome students today I will be taking you to the west tower for the familiar ceremony" Ms. Amelia Solace announced to her class.

It was one of the ten towers at the edge of the academy city, the ceremony was to take place on the 4th floor of the tower.

Students entered the tower gate while teachers stay behind with only one instruction "Once in there emit your mana or aura and the familiars will come to you"

As they entered the hall of summoning, they found themselves assaulted by thick pure mana suddenly. "Absorb this mana we won't get another chance later" Ciobara reminded her friends.

The three of them found a place and started to absorb mana, while other students absorbed mana for a bit but started to emit mana very soon.

After five minutes of wait, the gate to the familiar world was opened. The students eagerly started emitting mana.

"Please be a pixie… please be a pixie" a female student was praying as she emitted her mana.

"Look at how cool of a companion your lord summons" a boy boasted to his friends as he waited for a familiar to choose him.

Familiars came flying and occupied the entire summoning hall in just a few seconds.

The first student to get a familiar was a noble boy "Yes! I got a familiar" he was happy until it took shape into a rat "What the fuck!!! It's a rat" he was sulking as he got teleported out of the hall.

Just like this one by one, familiars chose students one after another, and anyone who got a familiar teleported out of the hall.

"Yahooooooo! I got a pixiiiie…," the girl started jumping in excitement and couldn't finish her words, as she got teleported out.

There were a few students still absorbing mana other than Ciobara and her friends one of them broke through a tier. She was Ilka Danvers the follower of the bully she had encountered the other day.

Ilka Emitted her mana and immediately three of the familiars responded one of them looked like a cat another looked like a small red-eyed skink and the third one seemed to be a coin.

Yay, new chapter. Hope all of you are safe and sound.

What familiar should I give to Ciobara?
