“I might have, if I had been aware of the odds.” Jesse lightly ran his fingers over the scars on Gideon’s chest. “Of course, you might have become suspicious when I made it a point to miss your heart by staking you on the wrong side.”
“As long as you didn’t try sticking the stake someplace a little more vital to me, I probably wouldn’t have minded.”
