Daunting Experience

In the distance, a resounding area alarm roared across the neighborhood.

"What's happening out there." A zombie apocalypse. This surely is gonna be a daunting experience. Huh? Why am I so relaxed about this? At this moment, I indulge myself in the momentary experience of ribbing off a person's tongue. But I grimaced at the uncertainty.

"No, keep your cool." A gasp came out of my throat to confirm the thrill inside me, the excitement.

"Alexa!" I called upon her.

"Yes, Fiana." she retorted in the usual robotic way.

"Give me a status report on the current catastrophe." Crouching down on the ground to pick up some heat as if I intended to do something. "News report shows that many civilizations had collapsed before the date November 13. Notably from China, Korea, and many other ASEAN nations exception to those that reside on an island."

"How is my brother, Alexa?" I asked her about his condition.

"Although there are sensibly high readings of his pulse-raising. Which is an indication that he is currently in hiding from the possible apocalypse disaster in the U.S." Astonished by the news, I quickly demanded her answer.

"In the U.S? Why haven't I known about this ?"

A sudden holographic screen appeared before me, which appears to be recorded from the satellite. "On November 6, there is a cargo shipment heading West to America that our satellite picked up to be covered in suspicious activities. Most of these captured images of the cargo can be traced back to the Ukraine ship dock in the Black Sea. No further information can be uncovered due to a blockage of satellite radio waves."

"A blockage" surprised by the newly discovered information. "How?"

Alexa swiftly answers my question without breaking a sweat although she isn't a human. "On November 8, at exactly 3:33 AM, our system had automatically shut down for the 2:27 maintenance procedure. All available active systems had been deactivated to facilitate a safe carry-out procedure without any hindrance to the main server."

"Then why haven't you notified me about this issue and even keep it to yourself?" I demanded an answer.

"During this maintenance call, my program is deactivated and any surveillance and data retraction will be unavailable for the upcoming estimated hours." it felt like my ears perked up. That's right, I designed this system but not it appears to be a loophole what is the coincidence for this to occur at the exact date and exact time?

"Back to brother, where is he?"

"A signal picked up from Siberia High---" I quickly cut her off, "Why is he there? Isn't he supposed to be at McClure?"

Alexa became quiet for a second then she replied with "He ordered me to stop monitoring him." Then I quickly countered her, "And who gave that permission to him?"

"You," Alexa said as if casually blaming her creator.

"Right... I should've implemented authority levels." With a deep sigh, I stranded off to the kitchen to grab something to take a bite off. "He's running for his life isn't he?"

Alexa quickly responded with "Yes, his beating for now is over the normal limits."

"Give me his exact location," I told her.

"It is 34.41.123.234." A holographic screen appeared with the size of the map of the county appeared in front of me.

"In Montygule Street."

"We should get going." I told her, "Put the building on high-security alert. Enable all security defenses if necessary, Alexa."

"It's on." She responded.

I stride out of the kitchen and towards my closet next to the front door, yes, it is more convenient this way I can change whenever I'm at the front door. Although it is pretty awkward for my grownup sibling to see me in underwear at the front door.

Putting on my leather boots, and belt with a holster to the side of my waist, then slid into combat gloves with a puffy metal plate from my wrist to my elbow just to protect myself from getting bitten. There in the corner awaits 3 types of bulletproof vests: heavy, medium, and light. I picked the light one because of its flexibility and comfort over a long trip. Heading towards the cabinet on one side of the room, I opened it and take out a Glock-19 with 5 ammunition-holding magazines, each distinctly carrying 25 bullets of 9mm caliber,, and an AR-15 with 10 magazines each holding 40 bullets of 5.56 NATO. Holding the handguard of the gun, touching the barrel of the gun to check its condition then adjusting the rear iron sight. Do I need to attach an ACOG or Holo to this? Close-range combat isn't something that I'm going to do the entire time so let's just stick something on this. Checking into the drawer, I picked up the holographic sight and swiped it onto the weapon, locked it in place.

Walking towards the front door, I wouldn't want to forget to grab a handy cap so I could organize my messy hair a little bit. Tying my hair to a knot then I put on the cap.

"Everything... check." walking to the door, I touched my hand on the surface of it and then pushed it to pull it open. A grand view of nothingness but concrete and cave systems appeared in front of me. My living is very secretive as my front door many people considered as isn't my front door. It's an entirely self-operated tunnel system that can remotely open out toward the outside world.

"Alexa, you there?"

"Yes, I'm still here." she quickly responded.

"Check the outside, see if there is anyone near the entrance," I commanded her.

"There's none."

"Hm." Grabbing one of my keys next to what I so considered the 'front door' and hopped myself into a humvee. Shoving in the keyhole, twisted the key to start the engine.

"Ready?" Alexa asked. Though she is an AI, she did learn a lot from interacting with me for literally 2 years now. What a surprise. Never thought that a bot who couldn't take a car into the right parking lot can communicate with me comfortably now. Am I getting dumber or is she getting smarter?

"Yes, open it, Alexa."

"Affirmative" A shrieking noise coming from the forward direction probably caused many meat eaters to come towards us if we were not out quickly. Stepping on the gas pedal, an immediate force retracted me to the back of my seat. Driving through the lights of a tunnel is an awesome experience. As I reached the entrance to the outside, I noticed a particular infected running into the entrance.

"Oh for goodness sake." I rammed over the poor guy and make my trip toward the city. The hole behind me that was previously the entrance has closed by itself.

Driving through the morning of the world, a lot of destruction. The city was a very populated center that I drove through every single day. But now, it resulted in just like a war-shaken town from a dystopian movie. Coming across lanes of burnt-down vehicles, decaying bodies, and bullet shells on the ground.

A wonderful city had turned into such a piece of garbage.

Mom...

Immediately, memories recovered from back then, when I was little, waiting for the bus rides home with an extraordinary woman, my mom. Dear her I do live well now maybe more than that. As I rode across the roads, memories kept popping up. One instance when me and my brother, Sebastian, fought each other just to get mommy's affection. Thinking back to those memories now makes me cringe. I surely do, treasure it a lot.

"1.5 miles before reaching the destination." Alexa notified me about the closing of our destination.

Keeping my eyes open for any possible swarm appearing out of nowhere.

"Reached the destination, please proceed with caution," Alexa warned.

"Thanks, but this isn't my first rodeo." Turning my head towards Siberia High, checking my surrounding before proceeding to grab the door handle without turning off the car engine because it serves to be the only possible escape route or fastest.

"Wait! I should be parking my vehicle somewhere else so it remains in no visible sight."But where?

"I suggest you park inside the school gym if possible, there is an open sliding-up door North-East of the vehicle direction." Alexa grasped onto it too quickly.

"I was planning to do that," I responded with contempt.

Turned my wheels and headed straight toward the specified hiding spot. Without turning off the vehicle, I climbed out with a pistol in hand. I brought myself a hunting knife just to prepare for close combat.

The gym room is huge, it's like a massive library. With individual chairs from rows to rows top down to bottom feet of the ground on the first floor. It has a second floor that goes in and out.

I directed myself upward toward the staircase of many rows of chairs and climbed onto the second floor.

I could hear footsteps resounding from the hallway. Slowly while holding my gun, I slightly opened the barely secured door and peeked outside through the glass built on the door to see through.

Two...three...four zombies way ahead. This should be an easy task. I swiftly gained my momentum and quickly stepped out to the other side of the door and run towards the quad-zombified man-eaters. Taking out my hunting knife, I quickly sliced two zombies' throats and punched the third one In the face before it could notice me. The zombie's sensitivity is painstakingly terrible since they're dead and their natural senses lose a bit of their originality. As the third one fell onto the slippery floor cause of blood staining on it, the fourth one quickly turned its head but without any extraordinary reflexive skills, he died when being stabbed between the eyes, damaging the brain matter of the infected. But without forgetting about the third one, I turned up my pace then swiftly pivoted my feet to position myself,, and strike the third zombie under the armpit to incapacitate its arm then a swift cut to its neck, the zombie bled out of blood then collapsed onto the ground.

A signal appeared on my smartwatch, it was my brother's. I grabbed up the pace and then raced through the halls that were left empty out of the ordinary. Then it finally leads to the chorus room. Standing in front of the room, I can immediately see a fortified entrance and long-reach defense strategy, like stacking the desks and making sure that there are holes that you could fit a spear into and stab the zombies without being concerned with the distances, But this proved ineffective against human psychopaths.

I checked the signal, it seems that it is in front of me. Not moving around, but standing still, hopefully,, it is not a zombie but if it is, it would react and move around a little bit by now. Instead of angrily punching down the fortified entrance, I tapped the side of the door so the inside people could hear me.

I heard rambling inside the room so there appears to be survivors, thank goodness I thought my brother was chewing on a certain someone's meat, that's why he was so standing still.

I don't think they could move the stuff because it requires quite a lot of trouble and might attract some unwanted attention.

How many days had this been since they first stayed here? Their food supply is probably running low.

I looked around to see if there are any lurkers, I turned on the chat mode to see if my brother start texting me by now. For the moment, the connection is a bit slow. Then there appear 42 messages from my brother alone. I guess he is alive then.

Bitch Sebastian: You there? Is that you?

Bitch Sebastian: Answer me. Is that you?

Bitch Sebastian:...

....

Bitch Sebastian: Why don't you answer me?

Me: It's me. I'm just waiting outside waiting for the time to turn my chat mode on. I hate it when my phone kept ringing with chat messages.

Bitch Sebastian: That's great. We're planning to head out right now because there aren't enough supplies in here.

Me: Is there anyone in there that you dislike?

Bitch Sebastian: It's the bulky guy and a pretentious girl.

Me: Cool.

Bitch Sebastian: I want to get out of here. They kept rambling about whether to check outside to see if it s a survivor or not. They haven't even thought of whether it would be a good idea to set down our fortification, which is our only line of defense just to have a quick look at someone in particular.

Me: Beats me.

Me: I'll be on now. So text me whenever you switch locations or when something comes up.

Bitch Sebastian: Yes.

Pulling down the phone, and taking a glance at the fortified structure of desks in front of me. I started exploring the school just to see if there are any other survivors.
